If they wanted to use universal ports they would have done it years ago. I don't understand the need anyway, if I'm ever at someone's house and want to borrow a charger there's never a shortage of lightning cables.

That's more or anecdotal experience as I've had experiences that were the opposite.

Ive noticed the lightening ports and connectors are much more durable with a satisfying click then a USB-c port. That alone is enough reason for me to prefer a lightning port in the upcoming iPhone.

I could see them including a Lightning to C cable.

I disagree, since Lightning is proprietary and NOTHING else uses it. If it was USB C, you could use one cable to charge your MacBook, iPhone, Android phone, Chromebook, portable battery charger, etc.
Why would Apple care if you can use their cable to charge a competitors device?

There'd better be USB-C on the upcoming iPhone (iPhone 8?), or I will not purchase it. And I think many people are in the same boat as me. We want standard connectors because they make everyone's lives easier. So if there are any Apple employees who read these forums (I know you do!) then please let Tim and everyone else know that USB-C needs to replace Lightning if we're going to move forward with technology at Apple.

If they, and millions of customers, didn't care all the while that mico-USB was the standard, why would they care now? In fact, given that most of the people buying new iPhones are coming from previous iPhones, I feel that most would be annoyed to not be able to use their lightning accessories.

That is true. And it's smaller which has to count for something. There's also no hole to get clogged up with fluff.

Good ! That is one less potential customer that we will not have to worry about in getting the new iPhone 8 before us :D And you really think too much. ;)

Lightning is objectively worse than USB-C. Lightning is older, proprietary, and anti-consumer.

I was talking just about the physical connector see

Put strain on USB-C and it damages your device/phone, Lightning damages your cable, its just superior in this way you got to have it that.

Connector is larger and there is more investment in the lightning eco system (e.g. Headphones).

it came too late and they make more money with lightning adapters ;)

but i wish they would use usb-c too. they even helped develop it.

Wouldn’t Apple make more money using lightning on MacBook since it’s proprietary?

Lightning might be coming at some point of time to MacBooks when they feel the cost of the addition is justified in some way, or necessitated in some other way (say an apocalyptical decline in sales of MB and MBPs with the number one reason customers give being lack of that specific connector).

Making more money, I do not know, since it is not like HP will offer a notebook with Lightning connector, therefore, paying royalty to Apple. So Apple offering its own proprietary port on its own line should not be able to make or lose them any money.

Why has Apple added USB-C to their new MacBooks yet they’re reluctant to add it to the iPhone?

Simple answer: bottom line impact. More complicated answer: Apple wants to delay a switch to USB-C tech as long as possible because it forces people to buy lightning adaptors and replacement ones because they are cheaply manufactured and break often. They won't switch to USB Type C fully because they can get a hybrid between lightning and USB Type C. At some point, they have to implement some facet because Android's bleeding edge will continue to grow with extra bells and whistles people do not need, but are hyped into buying.

What would be the big draw for having an iPhone with USB-C? I don't see it as important.

Biggest draw: uniformity. I rather have cables that charge phones regardless if iPhone or Android. Right now, it's a cluttered mess between micro USB, USB-C, and Lightning. Though one could argue quick charge, but I think that isn't exclusive to USB Type C since micro USB tied into Qualcomm's QC abilities since that has to do with the internal components rather than just a port.

There is one answer: internal space.

The iPhone needs NO PORTS. USB-C takes MORE INTERNAL SPACE. That is a very very very bad thing for smartphones and smartwatches. In the coming years the iPhone will finally lose the SIM tray and the Lightning Port will be removed and replaced with a Smart Connector successor or something of the like.

This is the answer that is true.

Not really because Samsung makes devices with great ergonomic profiles and still retain a ton of features with little or no compromise. No SD slot in the S6? Well, it made a comeback in the S7. Apple will want to maximize its lightning adapter profits.

Nope. It's internal design. Internal space. The less things taking that space, the better you can make the phone. Give you a quick example:

Let's say new battery tech came out and you could get the same battery life out of a battery that was physically 1/2 the size. You could then do any of the following, including innumerable other things that I'm not listing:

•Greatly enhance the speaker quality
•Add a 3rd or 4th camera sensor to the rear of the device
•Add numerous new sensors to the rear and face of the device, for AR capabilities
