Apple is a brand, not your friend. As a brand, Apple's first duty is to make money. Apple doesn’t need to incentivize their product in order for it to sell.
I understand that very well, I bought one didn’t I? Let me rephrase that so I don’t seem so needy:

“I would have liked to be able to implement fast charging out of the box, rather than dropping an extra 80 bucks...”

If Apple was truly "courageous" they would have at least included a USB-C to Lightning despite it pissing off people. If it's truly the future as they claim with the notebooks, they'd back it up now. But they didn't. Because iPhone too big of a product and could face backlash. That's not courage at all.

again, most people don't have USB-C in the car, on the office pc, on the airline, or even at a friends house. most of the time its standard USB. Its not about curate, just common sense.

If Apple then came and inserted a Type port into every single computer, charger and car that I have then by all means use a type C to lightning cord. Until then it would be extremely stupid.

Why be courageous on the Mac line but appease the masses on the phone line? As a former touch bar Macbook Pro owner, the USB-C ports were a giant pain in the butt and I opted to get a laptop that had USB-A instead. But it's just inconsistent to force USB-C down our throats and justify it with the hero-card on one product and cautiously stay away on their star lineup.

Including a USB-C to Lightning cable on the iPhone would have been more of a statement than including it on Macbooks and may have pushed the needle more. Get people who probably already own several USB-A to Lightning cables used to USB-C. Many would be like "Oh hey I've seen this on my Switch". And if people had problems with that, the old tech still works and is sold in mass. At this rate, Android and Nintendo will be credited for killing USB-A and be the true courageous ones.

Do you not have a plethora of type-A cables already? It's not like you old cables would cease to work. And it would be good for consistency with the rest of Apple's lineup.
[doublepost=1510545150][/doublepost]And I'll add this: a solid compromise would have been to include type-C to lightning with the X since I'm guessing the people who bought Macbook Pros will also be most interested in that product and it's a very future-focused product.

And leave type-A to lightning with the 8 line for the basic customer

I can even understand all the points and reasons for needing to include USB-A type, its going to be a while for a new standard to become mainstream. But there does come a point of nickel and diming to integrate to the new standards.

To charge $25 for the USBc to lightning cable and still include the same charger that was included with the original iPhone, for the now unsubsidized premiums we are paying for these phones, it would be nice to get higher powered charging bricks and a little more affordability for the equipment to move to the new standard. This makes it much more difficult for USBc to MAKE it to the mainstream.

Man, people always want free s**t. Same argument for the power brick extension cables they stopped shipping with MBP's, or the usb-a to usb-c dongles they never shipped. Apple has the leverage to not give you anything, and people would still buy Apple products. They just make good products that people are willing to pay a premium for. I appreciate quality products, not necessary looking for rock bottom value per dollar products. Sometimes I do, but not for things I rely on for work and life.

Second of all, a good portion of people won't use any accessories that are thrown in. I actually stopped using any of them. I buy the exact accessories I need for my iPhone. I don't use their sh*tty 5 watt brick or headphones or even the lightning cable because I have so many. I do use the headphone dongle though. Point is, people want different things, no point in forcing accessories to everyone that some might feel useful for extra cost.

But back to the main point, Apple doesn't have to give you anything and they know it and we know it. Android manufacturers do need to throw in freebies to differentiate themselves and prove they are a better value. Apple's strength is in their products, not their 2 for 1 deals.

I have usb-c brick already with my MBP, but no lightning cable. Yeah it sucks, but my first thought wasn't "why didn't they include that in either my X or my MBP?" My thought was, "I need to buy a usb-c to lightning cable." I haven't yet because it really isn't NECESSARY, it's just something I'd like to have. I'm glad the capability is there for me to take advantage of when I get around to it. I anxiously await the requisite "sheeple" and "fanboy" accusations...

The cable and charging wall wart should both be USB-C.

I don’t buy the reason being most people still have USB-A. How often do people connect their iPhone to a computer? Never.

People never connect their iPhone to a computer? Certainly some might not, but plenty do.

It's not just about the computer, for instance, I hook my phone into my Honda Accord for CarPlay.....thats USB-A. Most public charging stations in restaurants, hotels, airports, etc are USB-A. Most adapters are USB-A.

I think new Macbook (pro) owners are the only persons worldwide asking for this due to incompatibility for USB-A. It's a minority.
As said before, look around in airplanes, hotels, public charging spots, cars, etc etc - USB A everywhere.
It's just too early to switch for Apple, there are not enough use cases for USB-C.

Why hasn't the sky fallen when Android packs in USB-C cables and chargers?
