I have been following this app closely, but Im having a problem understanding where these people are getting the idea it's being submitted to APPLE this week or next.

According to their own site they are just finishing up ALPHA and getting ready for BETA round of testing.

Sounds more like a few more weeks to 2 months before we see the app.

Hope Im wrong but I don't see how it would move that fast.

Beta Testing

I have been beta testing the uSirius StarPlayr since Jan 9 and I have very little issues with it. The build that I have been testing is from Jan 4 and it is rock solid with the only real issues normally being caused by the data connection. When driving it does lose connection briefly sometimes but almost always its only for a few seconds as the buffer catches up. When I have a 3G connection it is perfect its when going from 3G back to edge that the issues happen but this has been the case for all audio streaming apps that I have used. I am very excited for the final version with the few issues that they are fixing or new features like being able to re-order your favorite channel list.

I have no doubt that they could submit this app this week. They have had 4 weeks of additional development since the beta that I am testing was issued and thats more then enough time to have implement fixes. I even think they could have went live with the version that I am using since its a lot less buggy then some other apps that I have gotten from the App Store.

Technically the rate of basic service has not changed, but the services provided post-merger have. You now get a few more channels whichever side your sub is on, and still pay twelve bucks. Its a give and take, I don't see anything wrong with it, but I rarely use the online streams in all honesty.

The whole internet radio will kill satellite radio debacle is really not worth arguing. Internet radio is in legislative trouble and the majority of satellite radio use is in vehicles and chain businesses, two areas its not quite convenient to deliver internet radio yet. We still can't get reliable AT&T service in New York City half the time, and the damn telephone was invented just across the river. Maybe it will get better when the DTV changeover finishes and those frequencies goto cell service... But that is a long ways from now.

Are you using the high quality (128k) stream when you get drop outs, or the regular stream? Just curious...

It's the low qualitiy streams which right now is all that is available when using edge or 3g. The 128 current is only available using wi-fi. They say this will change in march.

They plain on submitting to the app store by the end of day and at the same time the beta testers will get that version as beta 2.

Internet radio is the future. Sat radio had it's chance. I give it 2 to 3 years before sat radio is gone or is online only.

Booooooo. I can't stand listening to anything less than 128. I've been waiting on this app to decide whether to keep my subscription. If they don't change this, that seals it.

Internet radio is great if you're at home and have your computer connected to the Internet. What the hell are we going to do about it in our cars? Let's be honest, cell reception in a lot of areas BLOWS where satellite does just fine (mountains, etc.) While I champion iPhones and all of those devices that can pick up the Internet on the go, consistency of service signal will remain a huge issue.

When I'm on the road, it's XM for me.

How cool would it be if it was released today? I hope this makes the front page of the forum here when it is released.

what's the hold up now with this app??? Why is it that Apple can pump out a HUGE amount of useless fart apps into the appstore, but a useful one like starplayr gets held up for going on 4 days now.

Oh, jesus, do we really need to have this argument again?

When internet radio can be in my car and work anywhere in North America, then satellite radio is dead. Until then, it's not going anywhere. And since internet radio would require that practically every square inch of this country is blanketed in either WiFi or 3G, then it's never going to happen.

Wrong. All it has to do is blanket major cities. Mountain men don't pay for satellite radio. Even so, widespread wifi is just around the corner. Right now, I get way better coverage on internet radio than satellite. Solid 3G everywhere I drive every day. And since we have no repeaters in our city, satellite will drop out downtown driving next to tall buildings, in tunnels, even large trees. Not to mention, satellite is useless indoors. I'm with Usoandso, I give it 2 to 3 years.

Really? Mountain Men don't pay for it? What sort of proof do you have? I lived in the middle of nowhere for 4 years (where the closest 3G coverage was easily 80 miles away) and I know plenty of people, myself included, who paid for satellite radio. And even in cities with no repeaters, I've never had issues with dropouts near buildings or trees. Tunnels are a problem, but we only have 1 in the St. Louis area and I don't even think it's half a mile long, and since it goes right under the runway at the airport, the only thing you're probably going to be able to hear are jets landing and taking off.

Perhaps TJ was implying that lumberjacks prefer iPods. The Lumberjack Song provides no evidence of this. Men who leap from tree to tree in British Columbia are a key satellite radio demographic, everyone knows this.

Do you have a link of average days from submission to release for applications? I was under the impression that some took weeks to months to be approved.

and didn't it take months for that fart app to actually make it in there (if you count it's original submission date when it was rejected)?
