Verizon: there's a map for that and it's shaped like the US, everywhere else be monsters.

Seriously, CDMA? Talk about limited coverage...
To be fair CDMA does have better range indoors. The problem is Verizon's maps are over done.

How long until we see the counter "iDo" adds from apple? Would like to see what they, or att counters with now

This is kinda funny.... I like competition, but I think its funny that a carrier is feeling threatened by not another carrier but the hardware maker! I hope Verizon learns the old lesson of "you get more with iHoney than vinegar."

Verizon can throw everything it wants at AT&T and Apple but two things that the competition will ever have is.... iTunes and wait for it..... The innovation of Steve Jobs!

ads isn't bad, but i felt its a bit too techy, overly scifi, not exactly clear.

anyway, VZW probably wants to make a series of ads instead of just one, which i think they will.

ps, i saw the video on youtube, not sure if its the one on tv.

That wasn't my point though, I was saying who would want to buy a phone that only works in one country? It's a bit odd that Verizon are claiming better coverage when CDMA only really exists now in the US, Canada and South Korea.

AT&T could just make an ad of someone in Europe trying to use their CDMA phone. It won't work.

lol, how many people in the US do you think travel outside the country frequently? or infrequently? or ever?

your point really doesn't stand up at all.

That was a terrible ad, and the ad agency that created it should be ashamed - and fired.

First problem: it spends 2/3 of the time talking about a competitor's product. They've just admitted iphone defines the market. (like MS' laptop hunters commercials though not as bad because this didn't actually come out and say "the competitor's product is too cool for me so I'm buying this one.")

Second problem: 90% of the people who see that are going to have no idea what the ad is for. I mean, "Droid?" I read macrumors and it still took me a minute to figure out this was about android. Android has promise but almost no exposure. Selling Android is going to require actually selling Android, not taking little swipes at the iphone. That might work for RIM, who already has people's attention, but Android isn't even on most people's radar.

Third problem: text on a blank screen doesn't get people's attention. It just doesn't. Especially not with inane and slightly annoying background music as the only audio.

I'm not saying the iphone doesn't have flaws - it clearly does. But this ad is just mind bogglingly bad.

Verizon can show all the flaws they want but an iPhone is an iPhone. People loved it when it cost $499 new and no way to send an MMS.

It's the great ecosystem of firmware updates, Apps, music, and syncing that people find easy - all done with iTunes. And the iPhone has the best UI on the market (webOS is close).

Every time I see these down with iPhone ads, I keep remembering the Voyager, the Spring Instinct and others.

I really wish someone would kick Apple's ass but, like the iPod game - it ain't gonna happen.

CDMA is used in a lot of countries. Europe and Australia are the main places that don't have it.

Far too few. Far too few.

No point investing in a non-global standard.

And more FUD towards verizon put to rest
http://support.vzw.com/faqs/International Services and Roaming/faq_global_rental.html

What is the Global Travel Program? The Global Travel Program allows Verizon Wireless customers to use a global device when they are traveling for 21 days or less to an International destination where CDMA coverage is not available.

If i am traveling on vacation I only want to be contacted in an emergency. As far as internet and emails go; macrumors and the prince wanting to deposit a large sum of money into my bank account will just have to wait.

Right, just like Apple and the way it uses pro-Mac, instead of anti-Microsoft, ads.

AT&T could just make an ad of someone in Europe trying to use their CDMA phone. It won't work.

As others have pointed out, most Americans don't spend a lot of time overseas. They're more interested in having good coverage here.

If they do take their iPhone, ATT won't let them use a local SIM in the iPhone. Thus most people seem to disable their phones by pulling their ATT iPhone SIMs out to avoid large roaming fees

So, just as with CDMA users, iPhone owners are advised to buy a cheap GSM phone with SIM swapability to use.

If you are a constant traveler, and yet still want Verizon in the USA, then they have several very decent smartphones with both CDMA and GSM. And, unlike the iPhone, you can get the GSM side unlocked for overseas.

Competition is good ...

Ad should resonate with there target audience, nobody else will see it. More of an rallying point for the anti Apple/iPhone crowd. Hell, the only reason I've stuck with AT&T is the FAN discount.

Here's hoping 'DRIOD helps get us iPhone users
- Google Voice
- Improved network from AT&T
- free 'Office' (Google v MS)
- Tethering

as much as I like my 3GS, this new droid phone (aka sholes) looks sweet. It might just make apple actually make a 'real' smartphone next June..

I think this ad would work well for Verizon if they actually centered a little more on what they mean by the "iDon't". Now WE know what they mean here at MR and other tech sites, but what about those who are looking for a new smartphone. They are greeted with an ad that says "iDon't......blah blah blah" and then see "Droid Does" and it ends. What do they really gain? I think they need to explain more of what product they're going after.

Verizon's shooting themselves in the foot here, there's no way, even with a new network standard, that apple would give them the iphone now that they have this new campaign. Which means me, and others I know, will be switching to another network when we have to pay the bills so we can get the better phone.

Waaaaaaay over exagerated maps. They show the exact same map for 3G as for mobile TV... when in reality Verizon has two maps for that. The 3G lives up closely where as the Mobile TV is pathetic coverage.... you can literally count how many places there are... not much.

So yes, one can sue Verizon for misleading ads...

The 1st thing it said "iDon't have a real keyboard" is the 1 thing I love about the iPhone. The battery thing is nothing for me also because I never needed a new battery in past cell phones. The other issues I don't care about because I knew this buying my iPhone and it doesn't bother me 1 bit. If I want to take a picture in the dark I'll use a real camera.

It's a fair point, the few times I've traveled outside the US, I've roamed with my phone. Granted, I turned off data roaming, but I still wanted to use my phone and be able to answer any calls or text coming into my number. I know prepaid SIM is cheaper, but I was willing to pay to be reachable at my phone number when out of the country. And of course, if I had Verizon, this would not have been possible unless I had one of their select few hybrid CDMA/GSM phones.

And here's one thing the iPhone does that the Android or any other Verizon phone won't do: Simultaneous voice and data. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but there have been many times I've been talking to someone and had to look something up real quick on the internet on my iPhone, and I could do that without hanging up on them.
