These campaigns aren't going to be effective.

I think Verizon needs to introduce the phone before starting to make these subtle "mystery commercials." I think 90% of the public won't understand what "Droid" is even referring to.

Granted, Android is a nice catch for Verizon.

Had original iPhone and every new model release since then. Love them all for what they do.

Before iPhone had a Treo. It was good for it's time.

Tried a Storm for a few months with a new Verizon account all while keeping my 3G. Just couldn't get used to how the phone's menu system is used for almost everything.

So when I say iPhone truly is the best overall smooth and fluid user experience, it comes from a pretty limited cache of other phones and not some fanboyish loyalty which I personally think is stupid...which is what these adds feel like to me. It truly feels like the slimy adds you see politicians run during a heated campaign.

iPhone Does

I don't want the iPhone to be an Android phone or a Blackberry, if I wanted an Android phone or a Blackberry I'd buy one.

Can the iPhone be improve I'm sure as it has been done since Apple entered the cell phone industry just over 3 years ago. The iPhone will be improved but I'm sure it won't be improved by getting rid of what makes it the iPhone and copying the stuff from every other phone. It will never have a keyboard.

Really? I'm not sure which high-powered ad firm you work for, but that commercial did everything right. Yes, I'm an iPhone owner, and yes, I love it.

Same here. I love my iphone and don't ever want to switch...but I thought it was an effective commercial  All of those things were true. And the text on background caught my attention.

Seriously, CDMA? Talk about limited coverage...

Who cares?

What good is my iPhone when I keep seeing threads telling me to not take it overseas because I'll get charged a million dollars for using it?

If "buy a local phone when you get there" is the advice for my iPhone, why should I care that I'd have to do the same for a Verizon phone?

Android actually does have a virtual keyboard now. It's not quite as good as the iPhone's, but it's certainly usable.

Also, confusingly, the ad is for the Motorola Droid, which is a handset that'll be using the completely revamped and redesigned Android 2.0 OS, which actually looks quite nice.

It's good to see other companies finally going for the throat here. Apple have plenty of improvements that they could make to the iPhone but have, for whatever reason, refused to.

Apparently enough people care that Verizon is converting their entire network to LTE, the global standard, instead of going with whatever CDMA's version of 4G is called.

lol, how many people in the US do you think travel outside the country frequently? or infrequently? or ever?

your point really doesn't stand up at all.
Did you think about the traveling business men? I know a lot of these men dont leave the US but some do. Which makes the point stand.

As I see for this ad I think there going to attack a really big thing for anyone using enterprise. Did Apple ever fix the enterprise server issue in 3.1.2?

One thing these ads tell me is that no Apple product (phone, tablet, etc.) is going to Verizon any time soon, despite the occasional rumor to the contrary. Obviously, Verizon and Apple are not forming a business relationship. Instead, Verizon is taking the approach of pushing the alternatives and claiming they are better. Also it's clear Verizon still does not want to carry a handset that will overshadow them.

Verizon's shooting themselves in the foot here, there's no way, even with a new network standard, that apple would give them the iphone now that they have this new campaign.

Carriers advertise lots of phones. Even ATT, exclusive home of the iPhone, is constantly adding other smartphones and talking about them.

I see ATT ads on TV for WinMo phones, and their wireless home page often showcases WinMo smartphones when viewers come in.

ATT's CEO has also publicly stated that they're eager to carry all the Palm Pre models. It also seems that ATT will be selling Dell Android phones next year.

I guess you think this situation is harsher, but even ATT and Apple have bashed each other in public, so an "iDon't" campaign from a competitor wouldn't stop business deals.

All that said, I don't think Verizon really cares if they get the iPhone or not. They'd take it, but they're not dying for it.

I think this ad would work well for Verizon if they actually centered a little more on what they mean by the "iDon't". Now WE know what they mean here at MR and other tech sites, but what about those who are looking for a new smartphone. They are greeted with an ad that says "iDon't......blah blah blah" and then see "Droid Does" and it ends. What do they really gain? I think they need to explain more of what product they're going after.

My fiancee (not a big tech geek) knew EXACTLY what it was about and why the second it appeared. And she thought it was hysterical. FWIW.

Good Points! I don't know why they make a big deal about the keyboard either. If you had an iPhone long enough you can type just as good. I now have a hard time typing on my work phone that has a real keyboard. I also hope you are right that the iPhone will never have a keyboard.

Even though I dislike Verizon with a passion I have to give them props for their ad. I think it strikes Appple right at the "core" and knocks them down from that pedestal they built up. I'm a 3G owner and and I think it's pathetic I have to jailbreak my phone to get basic functionality (backgrounder) to my device. Maybe someone in Cupertino will open their eyes and improve on something that even though is a great device falls miserably short on features that the most basic of dumb pones already have............oh yeah we just got MMS

Nice going Verizon!!!!!:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

really? and what did it do right? Fail to show its own product? Spend 2/3 of its time with the viewer's attention only on the competitor?

Again I'll say, terrible ad. Tells you nothing about what it's trying to sell, doesn't grab your attention, boring, etc.

Those of you who think this ad is good are probably people who routinely come to this board to complain about things like no background apps or no camera flash. Most consumers don't think about these things and frankly just don't care. Spending the whole ad talking about picky little things a competitor doesn't do is no way to sell your product. Focus on what your product can do if its so great. The fact is, people love the iphone despite its shortcomings, and most iphone owners don't give those shortcomings a second thought.

It's a prequel of what's to come and an excellent ad.....it's not hard to figure out

On ATT's website, they advertise the HTC Fuze as "the ultimate smartphone".

Does that mean ATT doesn't think much of the iPhone? Of course not. It's just advertising.

In Verizon's case, it's similar to the way that Jobs always slams anything that Apple doesn't have, but then flips 180 degrees when they do get it.

Reminds me a bit of the Cloverfield movie ads.

I think AT&T and Apple think the iPhone as a mini-computer rather than a smartphone...

So, yes, AT&T thinks the Fuze is the ultimate smartphone. And yet we all know the iPhone is a the best portable computer there is. Locked down as it is, it's still a mini-computer
