I purposefully used way over 10 GB of tether data to see if Verizon had in fact a "hard cap" on the mobile hotspot. So far, I've used about 15GB of tethering and my speeds haven't slowed down a bit. Maybe they put that wording in just to deter people from using the hotspot as their home ISP?
It's very possible they haven't implemented it yet... I remember when AT&T introduced their tiered plans with "unlimited" 2G after you hit your limit, there were people using 60+GB on a 1GB plan with no throttling. After a month or so, they implemented it and throttled people down. So It'd be nice if it didn't happen, but I bet it will at some point.

The new plan is cheaper, but the old plan is never deprioritized/throttled.

I like the whole deprioritization idea. It prevents people from abusing and taking up all the bandwidth. If I can't make a call over the LTE network because it's so congested, I won't be happy.

I've always been okay with deprioritization, even when other people were angry about it after it first became a thing. It's the most fair thing they can do for everyone. Much better than a hard cap that cuts you off or throttles you after a specific point, this allows you to continue having usable service when there's no congestion and it won't cost the carrier anything to let you continue using it.

So does anyone no how to check how much hotspot you have used on your unlimited Verizon plan?
Easy, just hit details on Verizon's Data Hub. Last month we used 83 gb of data with a hotspot using 64 gb. At the end of the billing period we still had 39 mbps download on the hotspot, happily dropped our ATT 6 mbps dsl.

So, now that the plan has been out for a few months - has anyone had a hard throttle at 10gb for their mobile hotspot? I just switched to the plan.

Huh? Care to share a screenshot on where it is on the Data Hub? It still doesn't show hotspot usage on mine.

Yes. After 10G, connection is basically useless dial-up speeds.Speedtest showed 0.21D/0.52U Ping 38sec. Isn't it bait and switch if they sell you "unlimited" and it's actually a 10G plan with turtle speeds after that?

Well, the plan is mostly/primarily about mobile use, with tethering just being an additional option that is offered. Even that aside, the speed limitations and all other details are part of available information, so there's no real "switch" there. You are also allowed to continue using data for as long as you want without being charged extra for it, it's just the speed that can be affected.

I understand and I do feel things are moving in the right direction however I think there is lots of misinformation out there when talking about speeds. The term 3G speed is thrown around a lot, and I don't think in many cases people that are over 10G and get throttled are getting anywhere close to what that actually should be.

Going by this thread seems like people are mostly getting well beyond that it would seem.

Depends where you are and how busy the providing server, I travel, near Nashville last billing period as I stated super speeds with well over 50 GB hotspotted. 5 days into this period, 31 GB on one hotspot line, probably a busy Memorial Day weekend, in Tampa area, still very usable for streaming.

I see you're in Wisconsin, I travel, even to Wisconsin, and for some reason that is one of the worse areas for cell coverage I've visited. It seems a few miles from Madison is a Verizon and ATT wasteland :(.

I'm one of the lucky ones close to a tower and consistently have good speeds with Verizon iPhone and Verizon BRV router. I'll have to keep watching and testing. I know there's lots of variables to consider.

Doesn't show hotspot there for me either.

Same, latest Verizon app on my iPhone
Kinda annoying because I can't track what I've done
[doublepost=1495988602][/doublepost]Also I'm being throttled hard
-87 LTE (great connection)

110Kpbs

Not tested in the middle of nowhere (Williamsburg, VA at the outlet mall)

I switched to Verizon because of their new unlimited plan. (This is before ATT got their act together and made a proper unlimited plan) For the past few months, I have used about 20gb a month and that's including tethering to my Mac and iPad Pro. I know it doesn't hit the 22gb throttling limit, but I must say that it is very pleasant to not have to worry about data. Streaming, hotspot, etc. I can do anything without fear of surcharges. UDP is definitely worth it.

There's plenty of talk on the Verizon forum of people getting throttled to a crawl after 10GB. I'm not giving up my grandfather unlimited anytime soon.
