Got 8 years out of my 2013 rMBP which I’m upgrading from, hope to get the same or better from this. For that reason I went with 32gb ram when I don’t really need it, but given I fully intend to still be using it in 2030, it makes sense. Got 2TB SSD too, that I WILL use. Old one has 512gb and oh my have I struggled with that last few years….waaay less juggling external drives in my future, woo!

Hello you.

I kind of need some help deciding on which MacBook Pro to order. I understand there will probably be tons and tons of these posts and I’m so sorry for being one of them but I can’t think straight right now and would really appreciate you guys opinions about which Mac seems just right for me.

So I’ve been a MacBook Pro user for over a decade.
My first MBP was the MacBook Pro 15” from mid 2009, second one was a MacBook Pro (non-retina) 15” from mid 2012.

My current one is a MacBook Pro 15” from mid 2015 with these spec’s:
2,5 GHz Quad-Core Intel i7
16 GB RAM
500 GB SSD
AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2GB & Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Mentioning the spec’s just to give an idea what I’m used to today.

I use my Macs for Music Production and 3D-Modeling, besides some light office work etc.

Even though I make some small money on my music production it’s still just a hobby and my Mac has nothing to do with my main source of income.

I use Logic Pro X as my DAW for my music production, though I mostly record ”real”/hardware/actual instruments rather than using Virtual Instruments but I wouldn’t mind starting to use more VI’s, if my computer can handle it without adding too much latency or fan noise.

3D-Modeling is just a hobby, mostly doing it for 3D-printing stuff, or making a drawing for something I'm building. Not doing any 3D-renderings.

I'm used to the 15" screen size but have used some 13" and they are small and a bit too small for my taste byt the 14" is almost 1" larger (I think the size went from 13.3" to 14.2"), also I'm using my computer hooked up to a monitor almost all the time these days.
Though I don't really need the portability from the 14" so I can't really see the "win in it", I move my computer maybe once or twice every half year these days, before the pandemic it was like once or twice every month.

So regarding what model and what specs do you think would be a good choice?

I feel absolutely lost here so I appreciate any help I can get.

I'm not looking to getting one of the top specced ones, I rather just want something that I'd rather buy a new computer in 2-3 years when the pandemic is over and my economy is a bit better, rather than going broke now just to keep my computer a year or two or four longer.
I just want something that gets the job done and preferably something that is price worthy (I just checked, and 32 GB of RAM costs $600 in my country and I'm not sure that kind of future proofing is worth it (I don't usually run out of memory on my current computer, I believe I'm usually at ~12 GB RAM being used but I'm also kind of neat regarding closing apps not being in use (exception being safari tabs-)

I realise it’s not entirely clear what I’m asking for here but I guess I just need some guidance, either what Macbook Pro you think will suit my needs or some help asking the right questions or such. Guess I'm extra stressed out since I know the longer I wait with the order the longer delivery will take and I'm really looking forward to getting my new computer and have kind of waited for this moment for 4 or almost 5 years.
Thanks again.
My suggestion would be go for 16" M1Max which has 32Gb base which means your graphics work is super fast and a 1Tb SSD but if you can.. push that to 2Tb as graphics and video are space consuming. If you go for 1Tb you can have an external 4Tb SSD connected super fast and dramatically cheaper than the Apple upgrade cost. If you can buy it as a business item so you can reclaim sale/VAT etc. Sell your old one as soon as you can do without it.

I’m having a very difficult time deciding what to to get. My budget is 2500.00. For 2584.00 I could get a base 14 inch with 1TB and 32GB, or a base 16 inch with 16GB and 512GB for 2487.00. Anything higher on the 16 is out of the question. I wanted a bigger screen, but the price for the upgrades on the 14 are almost too good to pass up. What do you guys think?

This is the day I’ve been waiting for since 2016.
The 2016 MBP was definitely not for me. I’m slightly clumsy because of a minor visual impairment affecting my depth perception and MagSafe has saved my expensive MacBooks many times. I’ve held on to my 2011 MBA, fearing the day when the SSD eventually will fail. Now I can actually think forward again.

And I can finally move music production away from my gaming PC. The old Air handles office tasks sufficiently but it’s impossible to run even an older version of Ableton Live on it without the fans kicking into overdrive and the CPU eventually throttling.

I’m very happy and excited about the new MBPs and I hope a slightly futureproofed configuration for the 14” will allow me to use it for a decade.

The 32gb ram upgrade over 16 is really pricy on the 16 base model, is the extra ram worth it? I am not buying one but just wondering.
Worth is subjective. But seeing as how you can’t upgrade memory yourself in these machines, whatever you order now you’re stuck with. If it’s too much now, great, but it may not be in 2 or 3 years and you’ll be glad to have the extra memory, and far cheaper to pay the upgrade cost today than to buy a new machine in the future.

For those models (including mine) destined for the first week of November (around the 4th) what are the chances of them arriving earlier with the same MAX models destined for October 26th?

In other words, does Apple usually underpromise delivery times and suddenly they move up?

How will the base GPU in the 14" compare to the Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB?
I do roguelites - nothing intensive. It's a work machine. I'm primarily after the new keyboard (I loathe the butterfly keyboard from my 2018 mbp, webcam, (I'm a therapist and do mostly video session), and real function keys. This is my fastest upgrade ever, by far.
I'd just don't want a downgrade in GPU, coming from a discrete card.

Does anyone know, based on past macbook experience, when best buy and/or amazon might list these? They have better financing options.
Yes, eventually they will. Uncertain on the timeframe.

Sometimes. iPhone 13 Pro order release weekend orders slipped into November but most people saw them arrive 1-2 weeks earlier than the estimate.

That's what I imagine all of us are hoping for.

Hopefully we will see these orders ship the last week of October instead.

Thank You

I was trying to visualize the screen resolution differences and made this. Hope it is useful for those on the fence between a 14"/16".

So, the screen real estate on the 14” is THAT close to the outgoing 16”?? If that is the case, I may have to reconsider the 14” now (ordered the 16”).

That's just the resolution, it's slightly misleading as it will still be squished into a much smaller physical area (everything will look smaller) so you probably won't end up with the equivalent display real estate of a 16".

Going for the 16" M1 Max, 64GB, but not sure if I should go for 4TB. I prefer the final price tag with the 2TB storage. Will probably stick to 2TB.

I do a lot of after effects and video, photoshop, and no 3D. What do you all think storage wise of going with 2TB? What's everyone else (content creators) getting?
I have one user in my company for whom we got a 4TB SSD. He's using less than 10% because he stores everything on his external drive. 'Nuff said. Get the 2TB and if you really need more, you won't really need it online all the time. Get an external SSD and pocket the difference.

If you compare the 14” to the 13” you will find they are the same exact thickness with the new 14” actually being 0.1mm thinner which is crazy. Excited to get my device soon.

So what does everyone think about the two different chargers?

I actually just canceled my original order and went for the “better” charger and payed 20€ for the 96W charger instead of the smaller 67W that comes with the base 14 inch MacBook… because it moved my delivery window one week closer…

But I am wondering if I just paid 20€ for „faster shipping“ or if the 96W charger is worth an upcharge…

Is there ANY way to finance this on Apple.com using Apple Card for 24 months? All I see is a 12-month option.

I was just wondering. I have great credit if that helps.
