Packaging was fine.

Peel back the plastic film to see the black glass chipped. Cut myself lifting it out of the box too.

Aside from that, I'm happy with the machine. Got a WD drive (thank God/Allah/Buddah.) Very zippy. Core Image/Animation effects don't lag like my old 2.66/9400m setup.

Congratulations on the delivery but I'm not sure what all the joy over a Western Digital drive is. In my experience they tend to fail more than Seagate. The HD in my previous mid-2007 iMac is a WD which Apple replaced in September after it crashed. I thank God/Allah/Buddah for my Applecare as well as my 1.5TB Seagate HD in its Firewire 800 enclosure and it's backups.

Also, are you planning on keeping a machine with a cracked glass panel?

Damage like that needs to be reported immediately otherwise Apple might well deny it as accidental later.

I think the thankfulness about having a WD is related to an excessive noise problem with the new 27" iMacs (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/806850/). Apparently it's an issue with the 1TB Seagate drives. The 1TB WD drives seem to be getting better reviews and the 2TB Hitachi drives appear to be operating within normal/expected/tolerable noise limits.

Agree on reporting the cracked glass. It also helps everyone else who has a similar issue.

I prefer WD drives from a reliability standpoint.

As for keeping the Mac, yes I am, as I'm not in the mood to wait another 2 weeks and change. Apple is refunding me $100, in addition to coming insure with a new glass panel to replace the bokeh'd one.

All in all, I can't say I'm happy with Apple's delay on getting parts out but their customer service has been a solid A all the way.

I gotta try the yellow tinge thing later.

Mine is still not here and UPS called me earlier saying maybe I'll get it tomorrow and maybe not.

UPS is terrible.

When did you order yours? I ordered an i7 on the 25th and it's still showing as "Not yet shipped." It shows an anticipated arrival date of Dec 4 - Dec 10. Perhaps the shipping info hasn't been updated yet today...???

Besides the cpu upgrade, the only customization we did was to opt for iWork preinstalled. I suppose that could slow things down as well, depending on how they handle such matters.

My significant other is calling me obsessed with the shipping/delivery, but judging from the number of posts on this thread, I'm in good company! Who could blame me anyway!?!? :D

My i7 was shipped FedEx from Shanghai. Two days from when it left China and delivered to me on the east coast of the U.S. Did Apple upgrade your shipping? Check your order number at Apple. It shows the shipping time on the left side of the invoice. Mine said 2 days and it was 2 days.

OK, fair enough, and as I said my long experience with using drives from various manufacturers has led me to an entirely different opinion of WD. ;)

I was aware of the HD "noise" threads and added my 2 cents to them because the Seagate 1TB in my own i7 is not growling/grumbling or otherwise excessively noisy as some others are reporting.

As for keeping the Mac, yes I am, as I'm not in the mood to wait another 2 weeks and change. Apple is refunding me $100, in addition to coming insure with a new glass panel to replace the bokeh'd one.

Well, that's different. As long as you're getting a replacement panel I would probably do the same. Settling for a cracked one to avoid the hassle of getting it replaced would be extreme.

I guess all drives have losers and my first 27" Quad received on Nov 13th had an ST 1TB and it failed 5 days later. Reordered Nov 19 by Apple and still has Not Yet Shipped as status. They gave me $200 for anything I wanted in the Mac Accessory catalog and I selected the WD 1 TB Studio HD... it arrived overnight. If I don't get it this week I am going to request a discount of $50 for each day I have not had my Quad i7 after the 7th business day to ship.

My CS contact Melissa has been the greatest keeping me up to day by email and by phone!

2 days from Shanghai; really? I'm not sure what shipping I've got. The invoice says "Standard Shipping", but the Fedex tracking says it'll be here in 2 days.

My order was placed on November 19th. It's a business sale, if that means anything as priorities go.

Mine is a Corporate sale and is handled by Corporate Customer Service. Shipping is Priority which is the fastest they ship anything. Two day delivery is very common when products are shipped from the Apple factory. The 5-7 days to ship is past.

I just ordered today and I am supposed to have it shipped by the 17th.

:D

Can anyone link me to a guide for installing ram on the new 27" iMacs pleez:rolleyes:

Hello from France,

Just ordered the quad core one, i7.
Shipping expected on 14th dec, arriving 23rd dec. :'(

I also ordered on 25th and it's still showing "not yet shipped" i suppose that the expected delivery date is optimistic!

Has FedEx updated your shipment's status since you were first notified that your iMac had shipped? I got notification on 11/29 that my computer had shipped, but ever since then the FedEx website has shown my shipment as "Initiated" with the "Anticipated ship date" and "Estimated delivery" exactly the same as what yours is. The thing is that it's now 12/1 and my shipment still hasn't moved; the package is still in "initiated" status. How about you?

It looks like Apple has generated the shipping paperwork for my computer but it hasn't actually gone anywhere yet. I'm already worried that my computer's been lost since it's been two days with absolutely no movement...if you're seeing the same thing, I'll feel a little better. :)

Ya it was pretty hard not reporting the glass crack due to having my hand cut on it.

The yellow tinge issue IS THERE, however, it's not overly distracting. I'll get that fixed later.

Machine is super-fastic. Just waiting for the glass to be replaced before I can go super giddy with it.

Getting nervous. Mine's been showing this for about 32 hours now:

Package received after FedEx cutoff
So they....thought they picked it up, but it turns out that they actually didn't pick it up and it hasn't left the facility? The expected delivery date is 3 Dec by 10:30 am. Today is 1 Dec. Is there any chance in hell that it'll actually go from China to my doorstep in Houston in two days? Is this just a case of the delivery status not changing even though the package is likely further along in transit? Or is my iMac actually sitting on a Shanghai dock somewhere all by itself? When should I call Apple and ask for my money back for the "express" shipping?

Yay - mine's here. Seems fine, but just testing it out a little before I rip it apart.

Ordred 11th and got the delivery date specified in my shipping email (21st).

Doubt I'll be back here much, but check the SSD thread for dual replacement soon.

That's what I'd like to know, too. Does anyone know when they update the shipping info...at least on the U.S. FedEx site and/or on the Apple Order Status page and how accurate time-wise it is?

It'll take a day to fly from China to the States, so I don't see why not.

Ordered the Quad i7 with iWork and Final Cut preinstalled on 11/19. I also opted for priority shipping.

Finally got the email yesterday that it was shipped. It says the estimated delivary date is tomorrow.

Look at what it says next to Kentucky though, has anyone ever seen this??
