I told them if i could keep the old one til they ship the replacement. BUt the answer was a no. I also asked them if I kept this one and had it repaired when the yellow issue has been fixed. But they didn't allow me to do so, They preferred me to get the replacement.

By the way, Can you teach me how I'm going to talk to Apple rep to ask for the a free ram upgrade?

Should I just tell them I need a free ram upgrade to cpmpensate the delay? :(

Well, I'm not sure if that's going to resolve your concerns but yes, I would definitely ask for a ram upgrade to compensate you. That's exactly what I am going to do when and if I get an email explaining of a delay in my shipment. When you call them all you have to do is tell them very calmly:

"I was promised a shipping date for my replacement, I had deadlines to meet that I needed the computer for and was expecting the computer to arrive on time. I am willing to wait it out, however I would like to request that Apple compensate me for my troubles such as a ram upgrade".

Now if you got the stock 4GB then I would just ask for (2) 2GB ram sticks to bring to 8GB. You don't want to ask for too much, they may think you have an agenda. :). Just be fair with your request, I'm sure they will take care of you. They usually do. If you do call them, let us know how it worked out.

Thank so much, That really helps me? I will let you know.:)

Mine is delayed 3 more weeks!

I ordered an i7, 4 GB, 1 TB on 2 Jan.
It was supposed to ship on 18 Jan, to be delivered on 22 Jan.
Status changed to "Prepared for Shipment" on 18 Jan around noon and didn't change since.
I never received a mail announcing a delay, though.

I'm hoping that, if it is being prepared for shipment that thoroughly (ca. 54 hrs as of now), it will arrive here in prime condition

Just received an email (in Dutch, as I ordered at the Belgian Apple store) that translates into:
Dear ...

We appreciate that you have chosen the Apple Store.

The demand for the product you ordered is greater than expected. Thus it is not possible to send the product on the specified date. Of course we will send the ordered the product as soon as possible. We currently expect that your order will be sent within 3 weeks.

Please note that the availability of products can change quickly and that we might provide your order possibly much earlier than currently expected.

We thank you for your order and apologize for the inconvenience.

Once we have shipped your order, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. This e-mail contains information for tracking your order.

Best regards

The Apple Store

Another three weeks! I must say I am a little disappointed, especially as they name high demand as reason and not solution of technical problems... :(

JUst called Apple, a Rep offered $100 discount from the total price. I did request them for a Ram upgrade. But they said, He could do that for me but It will be more delay (another week or more). He even said Ram was the main reason of the back order.

So, i took the offer and would use that amount of money to upgrade Ram myself. Am i too easy?

enjoy the money dude, everyone how had the imac back order, should be getting 100 bucks. :D

You know what? That's good. I didn't think of that. I wasn't thinking that they would install the ram. I was figuring that they would just send the ram chips separately. You got a great deal! Good for you man. At least Apple is taking care of the customers that have to wait longer. :)

JUst want to make sure you got my story right. I only got $100 discount not including the Ram upgrade. I asked them if he could upgrade Ram (8GB) instead of recieving $100 discount. But they preferred me to get $100 options.

So, I didn't get both.

Anyway, thanks for your advice about how to speak with Rep and get the compensation

You don't really buy the ram story do you? All current Macs except the Pro use the same ram, but only the 27" are backordered. Hmmmmm.......

I think my reply was slightly wrong. I did understand. I think that's great that you got the $100 refund, I'm glad that worked out. Glad to help. I had a good feeling that they would take care of you. You can easily get (2) 2GB sticks for $100 on the net. Crucial most likely is the best place. I hope others will call in and get compensated for their inconvenience. :)

hi.. I'm new to this forum. I'm waiting for my 1st mac, my shipping date will be 25 jan, and delivery by 2 feb. I'm hoping apple won't delay for 3 weeks. Man.. waiting 2 weeks is a long time if delay will be total to 5 weeks??:mad:

Yeah, I didn't believe it too. But that's what he said. " I would be happy to upgrade Ram for you (8GB) if you dont mind waiting another week or more"

Maybe, I should have said, "OK I would be happy to wait if you give me the Ram "

One more thing, I did ask the REp about if Apple releases new software on Jan 27th like iLife10 , will my iMac shipped on Feb 4th also come with the newest software or not? They said they would send a copy to me for free if Apple really release new software and mine doesn't have it.

Can I believe him in this case? :)

for me i dont really care about the $100 discount or free ram upgrade for a $2500+ imac

I JUST want my machine SHIP on time!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll admit to buying early bc I kind of think Apple will do something for early adopters... like the early iphone folks that got 100 bucks...

You may be missing the point here. Of course most people would prefer to have their iMac shipped on time. I have one on order as well scheduled to ship on Jan 25th. I'm not holding my breath but if they do delay orders that were promised on a certain shipping date the customer should get compensated for the inconvenience. Now, should Apple call each customer and proactively offer compensation? No. But a customer should get taken care of if they call.

They are running to make everybody happy. If they could they would give you an iMac yesterday. They are losing money as of now because of the problems they are experiencing.

Imagine Santa Claus's workshop with all the elves working fast to get ready for Christmas Eve and make them look like "chinese underpaid little dedicated workers".
Can you really blame them?? Be patient as everybody else, we are going to have a blast with these machines!
God I can't wait either...

still slipping

Ordered my i7 on Jan. 5, given ship date Jan. 20. Yesterday they slipped the ship date to Feb. 4. Is it true that the stores have them in stock? I live in the boonies a long way from one but would be willing to trudge out through the snow if I could buy one in the store.

Delay shipment!

I got like most an email last night about the delay. I had been checking my order details over the last few days as my ship date was last Wed the 20th. After i got the email I check to see what date it would change too but it hadn’t. I left it up until 3pm (GMT) and checked again. The date still hadn’t changed! After reading a few posts about apple give $100 back for the inconvenience I decided to contact apple and find out my date and see about any little gift they might give me.
I spoke to the sales person and she checked my order. After about a minute of checking she found that my iMac wasnt affected by the delay (she said that I wasn’t on the list of delays) and that it is being prepared for shipping and should be delivered to me on the date given (28th).
I don’t know what to make of this now. Will i get one of the faulty units?

You are assuming the delay is due to Apple fixing the various flicker/yellow problems. You are assuming wrong. The delay is due to other things, perhaps parts shortages. IF Apple were really fixing the issue, then they wouldn't be shipping out faulty iMacs right now, instead they would delay ALL shipments. But they didn't - people are still getting iMacs, some faulty some not, just as it ever was. That points to the delay having nothing to do with the fixing. Besides, we already went through this before - some time ago the boards were abuzz with a two week delay - and it made NO difference in the rate of faulty macs being sent out. So relax - OR NOT as the case may be! - you'll get the same lottery mac as everyone else, maybe faulty, maybe not. Apple QC is pathetic.

So you ordered it after me and you are getting it before me??
I'm getting another $100 off at this point...
Let me call..

That exactly happened to me. Mine should have been in my room on Jan 20 but it was rescheduled to Feb 4 and deliver Feb 9 :(
