FYI: Macmall.com has both the i5 and i7 in stock. I got tired of waiting for MacConnection to get their stuff together and ordered from Macmall.com last friday night. It is Out for Delivery to my house right now.

Moral of the story, there are other places to buy from (and usually cheaper) than apple.com. Oh and I ordered the Applecare with it right from Macmall so that if I have any problems, I can take it to the Apple Store.

I ordered mine on Jan. 7th, was supposed to ship today, delivery supposed to be Jan. 29th. I'm pretty sure that the status on the Order Status will change to another date or i'll receive a email today or early next week that my shipping got pushed by 7 to 15 days...

It's long waiting for that imac !!

Petition

Hi Gang,

Instead of us individually trying to get Apple to compensate us for this bloody long wait, can I suggest that we start a petition or similar for Apples to compensate us with RAM/applecare/mobileme/applications/itune cards for this nonsense. Maybe someone with the resources, eg web-page & html skill can start and we will spread the words around the world. I think this is a much more effective method. If we have the number, Apple will cave in! This will also help people like me who bought from resellers.

IMac 27" i7 - coming soon

Found the iMac 27" and upgraded it at MacMall, now all I have to do is pay for it. :)

I am new to apple and have to ask....should I leave windows for my notebook and leave my apple pristine, allowing me to fully succumb to apple? or do I install parallel 5 or the like and how often would I really use it?

more importantly, do I upgrade the Ram to 8GB online or order it from Newegg and will installing it at home jeopardize my warranty?

The Apple store in SF told me that if you live within 50 miles of an apple store, they come to your house to fix a desktop (iMAc or Pro). Does this apply only to Apple store or Apple.com purchases, or to other resellers??

So are there any Imac's Quad I7 coming with yellowing screens after the dates of 20th of January? Are we through this defect do you think?

I am about to order mine and I really don't want any problems.

I got my email from apple about the delay of my iMac. That ***** doesn't get delivered to my house until feb19. Wow. That 6 weeks of waiting for me :apple:

Wow thats bad, cant you cancel and oder from macmall? Or demand more than $100 off from apple? 6 weeks is really unacceptable in my opinion.

You are "lucky", mine was :

Ordered: 7th Jan.
Ship: 22th Jan.
Delivered : 29th Jan.

-----------
Now, i received the email :

Oredered : 7th Jan.
Ship: 16th Feb.
Delivered: 23rd Feb.

Verdict : 7 WEEKS OF WAITING (if it arrives the 23rd Feb.)

Ouch, +3.5 weeks

I got the email of doom...
Ordered: Jan 7
Original Ship/Delivery: Jan 21/26
New Ship/Delivery: Feb 16/19

That would be six weeks!

And this is an exchange (the first had -- wait for it... a defective screen).

My original original order date was Dec 19.

Silver Lining?
1. Hopefully the delay is due to a qc overhaul, and my imac will be perfect...
2. Apparently I'll have time to change my order if the announcements next week make something else a better option. It doesn't seem like the event is going to have anything to do with desktops, but you never know.

...Now, i received the email :

Oredered : 7th Jan.

Delivered: 23rd Feb.

Our ship date is the same, but mine will supposedly take 3 days, while yours would take 7...
Maybe give them a call and at least get the shipping upgraded. Surely that's not the fastest shipping option, no matter where you are.

Conspiracy Theory

How's this for conspiracy theory (gentlemen, start your rumors):

<conspiracy>

Apple is delaying shipments so that when people finally do get their iMacs, they will put up with any flaws that happen to be there, because they don't want to have to wait another month and half to get a replacement...smart Apple very smart.

</conspiracy>

re-post:

WOW, I just called apple to complain about having to wait 6 weeks from the day i ordered my iMac. At first all he offered was to refund my shipping charges of 33.00, I was thinking in my head WTF. I told him because of the delay I now have to buy microsoft office and a hard drive for my computer because of the delay just to use for a couple of weeks until my iMac arrives. I told him I had planned on buying apple care, but now I have to get MSO instead for my PC, So I ended up getting apple care for free. Id rather have my iMac now, than free apple care.

BTW: I asked about the delay, the first person told me it was due to high demand and that they were making sure everything was right on these new models, but they might have been talking out their ass IDK? The supervisor said it was due to high demand of the 27" i5 processors , I then asked him if I got an i7 would that speed anything up he said no. Then they were trying to get me to buy an 21.5 model, yea right.

After seeing pcworld has the core i5 imacs in stock online i gave apple a ring to see if i could expect to receive my order on the 4th of feb like my order status says. He told me he couldn't promise anything but that it was very likely to arrive on time. He also said the demand had outstripped the supply but that they were now catching up. Hopefully hes right!

My I7 Mac shipment has been delayed as well from Jan 21 to Feb 16. This is a replacement for my present 27 in I-MAC with a noisy Seagate hard drive. Apple is letting me hang on to my present I-Mac until the replacement arrives so I am dragging my feet on returning it until then. Apple has been wonderful in this whole matter. I am really in no rush to receive the replacement until they have their quality issues resolved.

Mine should have been shipped on Jan 20 and I got this email this morning

Due to an unexpected delay, we now anticipate shipping the following item(s) as follows:

Z0GF, IMAC 27"/4850-512MB
Old Ship by Jan 20
Old deliver by Jan 25

Now,

Ships by Feb 4
Delivers by Feb 9

Mine is just 4 weeks in total. But. I'm still dissappointed

Add about 3 weeks to the 4th thats when youll get your iMac. I would get it from PCworld if i were you, because i doubt you get your order before i do and i ordered on the 6th of Jan, now it delivers the 19th of Feb. If you wait till the 4th and then get an email about the delay, pcworld might be out by then.

Don't count on it. :(

After my shipping date came and went (21st - Thursday), and after I stated reading about 3+ week additional delays, I called Apple on Friday. The guy I spoke to was sure it would ship momentarily. I tried to get him to be more specific and asked if it might take a week and he say that was "very unlikely."

Today I got the dreaded email that mine is scheduled to ship Feb 16.

I guess i also thought that waiting for an imac from apple means its less likely to be faulty?

Ill ring and check pcworld actually has some tomorrow.

That's what I'm hoping, but nobody knows what's behind this delay.
Seems like it must be a shortage of a component specific to the 27" iMacs -- and one for which an alternative supply is not readily available. Does that mean lcd panels? I don't know...

Hard to know what to do. I suppose i can at least get some money back if it doesnt ship on the 2nd.

Im using the edu discount on apple. PCworld wont do that so its an extra £100. PCworld also havent heard of next day delivery so if i ordered it tomorrow i might just get it by the 29th. On top of that id need to order apple care (£140), the thought of possibly dealing with pc world customer service to get a yellow imac changed fills me with dread!

So id be £240ish out of pocket, possibly have to return the damn thing because its an old one, and if by some miracle apple shipped on time i wouldn't even get it much earlier.

I sometimes wonder why i like apple stuff so much *sigh*

Macmall Rescue!

I ordered my i7 on 1/2 with delivery for 1/19. The 19th came and went and I got the delay e-mail the next day with delivery not expected until at least 2/4. I called Macmall last night and now have an i7 shipping out first thing Monday morning with delivery by Wednesday. My Powerbook finally gave out and the wait was simply too much. Now I only hope my iMac is problem free.

A Wish Computer

We ordered an iMac with i7 processor November 10, 2009 from MacMall. The first one came with a broken glass display. Apple would not repair and wanted MacMall to replace. The replacement computer was delivered December 24, 2009, and this computer would start up but the display was plagued by intermittent jumpiness. This time Apple decided they would repair the computer via the Apple Store in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Apple store spent eleven days replacing most of the computers internal parts, but the problems were NOT solved! The 27 inch display is less jumpy but the problem persists. As I write this REVIEW January 23, 2010, I can confidently say that Apple does not know how the repair this computer, and has even suggested today that we should require MacMall to refund its purchase. At the Apple Store website today (1/23/2010) the purchase of any 27 inch iMac has a three week waiting period while Apple's Research and Development continues to build a new prototype for you the customer to try! Good Luck! As the Blue Brothers would say a 27 inch quad core iMac is a WISH COMPUTER!

Sorry you had all these problems, but as others have said you must be MAD to buy an Apple computer from anywhere but Apple themselves if you want no hassle. Also, a LOT of us are enjoying our fully-working first-time iMac 27" i7 models with no issue, me included. Good luck getting it all sorted!

What REALLY bugs me is people getting the iMacs delivered with the glass cracked - it takes literally 20 seconds to replace the glass on an iMac. Two suction cups to pull it off, and use those two suction cups to put the new one on. It's only held on with magnets! Apple should replace the glass in less than 20 seconds in the store.

Moral of story: Don't send the whole system back for replacement if just the glass is cracked. The glass is nothing to do with the LCD. It's just essentially a cover!

Did the move...

Hey guys,

Just ordered the 27" i7 (with only 4x2gigs of ram because of the ridiculous 4gig chip ram price). Paying about can 90$/month - 8% interest, but with 10% student price, only one place in Canada will get you that deal... very happy it happened to be in my city.

They told me 2 weeks, perhaps 3.

My music studio is now going to look like a airplane cockpit with my other HD acd, HDtv and my MBP, gosh, I kinda feel guilty now spending so much, but I'm sure I'll get use to having all that desktop space...

Also planning on ordering those little marvels to go with it if I can survive the next 5 months without starving: http://www.euphonix.com/artist/products/artist_systems/overview.php
