I'm starting to get the feeling that I will have to wait till March to get my iMac. Ordered on the 18th of Jan through a reseller in NZ. Got told that it could take up to 8 weeks to come in from Singapore. I can't track my order either because there is no tracking number on the invoice I was given by the reseller. Has anyone in New Zealand received a quad-core iMac i7 or i5? If you have could you please tell me when you ordered it and when it arrived?

Thanks

Ordered: 23 Jan
Original expected ship date: 15 Feb
Original expected delivery date: On or before 24 Feb

I'm pretty sure I see some on the right side, but it looks to be the same level of intensity as my old G5's screen (not very much). Therefore, it really shouldn't be noticeable enough to warrant a return; and you should be able to get by with it without even being bothered. It's pretty impossible to get a uniform LCD screen anyways.

so waiting time is down to 2 weeks in the states but still 3 weeks here in the uk?

According to the Apple store UK, yes, however I ordered on the 27th Jan and my iMac was shipped today, so I think 3 weeks might be the longest you'll have to wait, but you're likely to get it earlier. Mine shipped 12 days early, I'm hoping it'll arrive 12 days early too.

Week 6, 233rd of the line apparently.
Fingers crossed its a good 'un

Hey! Where is everyone getting this Week 6, 233rd of the line information from?

I ordered mine on January 16 and it was out for delivery today.

What a long trip!

Shanghai to
Osaka to
Alaska to
Louisville to
Buffalo to
Mount Hope, Ontario, Canada to
Concord, Ontario, Canada to
Brampton!

Does anyone know how to get UPS to hold the shipment at their centre as opposed to having them attempt delivery a 2nd and 3rd time? I left a note on the door telling them not to leave the product with any neighbours and to simply leave it at the UPS distribution for customer pickup and they leave a card saying they'll try back on Monday! Ugggggggggggggh!

You have to call them.
The tag they left on the door will have a number on it that you need, they will not do anything unless you give them that number. I do this all the time, you have to wait until it is delivered once to get that tag, and then call them and be specific about when you want to pick it up. I guess it is all for security reasons.

They have very good service by the phone.

Ordered on Jan 22 through reseller, still waiting but unable to have info.
19 feb. is too far for me, I need one right now: My MacBook Pro has been in reparation for over a month now and they refuse to give me a new one.

excellent - if all machines that are shipped now are free from defects, i'll get mine ordered in march (just to make sure)

If you're gonna wait that long you might as well wait till the next revision. In March it will be 5 months since the latest iMac was released.

I doubt we will get another iMac update so soon. Maybe in Fall 2010. Or maybe even Spring 2011. They did 2 updates in 2009 which was unusual.
I think they will concentrate on the Mac Pro's this year in 2010 like a 12 core or lower the prices on the 4 and 8 core to be more competitive with the new iMac 4 core machine. TMO.

I finally got my iMac

it was week 5 unit

it is perfect machine other then the yellow tinge problem

here is a pic to show for it

so today i called apple and they first wanted me to take it to an apple store to get it replaced, i was like umm no so he transferred me to another guy who said i can return my iMac then buy another to witch is said no cuz that is one dumb idea, so he transferred me to another guy who said he can send me an replacement but i need to ship mine back first, that is when i said i ordered my iMac Dec 30th waited this long till Feb 4th to get my iMac and 2 days later i need to ship it back, i said not acceptable so he transferred me to this girl who then said she can send me a new iMac and then i have 7 days to send mine in.

does everyone else get the same run around for a simple thing as that.

Got my i5 Thursday, shipped 30/1/10, delivered 4/2/10 to UK. 3rd unit (first week 49, dead pixels, minimal yellow, second week 46, yellow loads of smudges behind glass) but first from online store. Week 5, no dead pixels (yeah!) and no dead pixels in isight (unlike first 2).

The screen is not completely uniform and slightly warmer at the bottom but wouldn't have noticed if hadn't had a been looking (due to 2nd unit being a bad one week 46). Some backlight bleed in the corners - all in all I think this is 'within spec' and while not perfect looks great and if I wasn't really looking because of previous problems and this forum I wouldn't notice. I actually checked out my 2 year old macbook and the yellow is much worse but I'd never noticed before this!

No screen buzz, I was definitely aware of a buzz on the week 46. Hard drive is Seagate, not silent, standard accessing noise but quieter than my desktop external. The week 46 had a WD which was definitely quieter but this is similar to first also with Seagate. Overall this is a great machine and for a mass produced item I think acceptable if not 'perfect', I'm going to move on and enjoy!

I don't think anything has changed and all the production halt, wait 3 weeks etc is bunkum (IMO). They are churning out loads, QC isn't great, components aren't the best, so some are better than others, some are clearly good, some are clearly c**p and there's lots in between, whether the individual is satisfied depends on you and the machine. If you get one you're happy with it's great, but I really don't think there will be a sudden switch to all perfect machines, the price of success.

Sorry man, I have to disagree with the way you handled that as a customer. Don't you think that you were being a bit unreasonable on some level? Every option they offered you, you kept saying no. What did you want them to do? It's not typical of any company to send you a replacement product while you still have the original one, unless, they have your credit card info and you give them permission to fully charge your card for the replacement, then they refund you after they get the defective one back.

I understand your feelings and frustrations as a customer but put yourself in their position. If you were a retailer and your customer was completely unreasonable by saying no to every offer you gave them, you wouldn't want them as a customer.

Honestly, I'm lost why would you be against taking it to the Apple store for a replacement? What was wrong with that?

Apple are often willing to let you keep hold of your defective computer whilst you await the replacement. Once you receive the replacement computer you generally have 10 days to return the defective one to base. Often they'll send you an e-mail that you return to them agreeing to return the first one within this ten day period and if you do not they will THEN charge your credit card - they do not need to charge your Credit Card for the replacement and then do a refund afterwards

Apple did this for me and I didn't even need to ask for this or even send back the agreement e-mail (I think that slipped through the net). As long as the original order was via the Online Store I think, given the time he had waited for his order to be fulfilled and the time it would take to facilitate a replacement, what Croation wanted was perfectly reasonable and he really shouldn't have had to jump through hoops to get it. The important thing is keep it pleasant with your Apple rep and they'll often go out of their way to help you - maybe Croation just got some unwilling reps?

Mine is finally ready to be shipped. Was supposed to ship on Feb 18th. Will let you know what week when they post the invoice and when it ships. Oredered on Jan 27th at 9:09 pm from florida

Your experience is not everybody's experience. Apple wouldn't let me this. I specifically asked them if I could keep my 24" while waiting (3 weeks) for my 27" warranty replacement to be shipped. They said they couldn't do this. I would have to pay for the 27" upfront, when it arrives and they I send back my 24" then they would credit me back the money on my card.

They offered him to take it to his local Apple store for an exchange, how is that jumping through hoops? What reason would he have to say no to that?

It's a rather large box to be lugging around and it is an inconvenience to the customer having to travel to the nearest Apple Store, where ever that may be relative to their home. Just because you were unsuccessful in getting a replacement whilst keeping the original doesn't make Croations expectations, which were ultimately realised, unreasonable. From my perspective his perseverance was worth it, myself and others have also benefitted from this way of doing returns but generally without so much hassle as Croation had (it was immediately offered to me without me even asking).

You're way off on what I am saying. I only felt he was unreasonable because he wouldn't take it his local store for an exchange. It has nothing to do with my experience. Secondly, there are many people on this forum who would love to have an Apple store in their own country or state, let alone within driving distance. The iMacs are scarce right now, if you can go to your local store (which BTW, Apple generally doesn't allow) and get a quick exchange, I think that's quite an easy task. Even if it's not, it's still much better than having to wait weeks for a replacement which is what most people here have had to do.

Please allow the poster in question to answer, instead of you answering for him, telling me about the box being to big and heavy to lug around. No offense to you, but I asked him the question.

My answers were aimed at contradicting your take on Apple not generally doing returns in the way Croation wanted - if you ask and/or speak to the correct person they generally will. Hopefully others reading my posts will realise that Apple are more than happy to do replacements in the way I have detailed and if they do run up against resistance they can question why others have been granted this service.

I'm Just keeping the dialogue flowing, sorry if it's not inline with your perspective but such is the nature of an open forum;);)

or i would have thought they'd pick up the broken one as soon as they've delivered the replacement?!

I was finally offered a chance to keep the existing one till the new one arrived. So yeah they will do that for you.

One, i would need to drive 2 hours to get to an Apple Store, so with traffic and everything else i spend a day out of my schedule to get something fixed that i didn't break, it came broken right out of the box.

Second, i don't think i was unreasonable considering this has been a problem for a lot of people with the new iMac. To me having all those options before the last one was not acceptable. I bought a new iMac cuz i needed it not cuz i have a money tree in my basement that i just go help my self whenever i need to.

Also, i get your point as to me saying no, but i knew there was something better they can do for me. If they offered to charge me for a new iMac for the same price i got this one for and then refund me the money for this one when i ship it in after i get a new one i would have agreed to it. I just think if you exercise your options you will eventually find one that works best for you.

or i would have thought they'd pick up the broken one as soon as they've delivered the replacement?!

i asked if they would do that, they said u have 7 days to ship your old one in so you got time to back it up and do what you need to do to it before you ship it back
