I'm curious why that site would be any more pointless than this thread then?

There are certainly enough horror stories here that have made me hold off my buying decision. The other site simply aims to graph out what will hopefully be an apparent trend when the percentage of problem-free units increases.

If someone posts their last post here after getting a great machine, then fills in the quick info on the other site, I couldn't care less if they never stop by at either site again.

Personally, I think both are very helpful. Information is not the enemy!

Information can feel like the enemy if you let it.
I started lurking here months ago.
Started looking at the iMac 27" at the start of the year.

I was very hesitant, but I decided to just do it. Shipping was fast. Very nice.
Ordered Mid-February. Its a Week 8.

I noticed yellowing the second I started up! I have had it for 2 days only.

I hate to validate all the whistleblowers because I wanted to believe they were wrong, but here I go with my yellowish iMac - its not that bad, but its VERY noticeable at the same time. I could live with it if I HAD to...luckily I don't.

I think this is a great machine with one major flaw, and I believe Apple pushes out a product even if QC is not up to spec.
They start to take note of what problems occur the first half year or year of production, and THEN they correct the issue.

Costs go toward repair rather than Quality Control which would also delay production/shipping to demanding customers.

Just got off the phone with Apple customer service.
They told me to get a screen replacement from my local authorized retailer (NOT an Apple store-not sure what I want to do here)

So for now, I feel like another statistic, and quite foolish.
The machine runs like a dream. It's super slick and fast, and I am very much in love with it. Except for the yellow of course.

Information is very valuable, and a huge corporation like Apple cannot deny claims like this when access to this type of information is readily available and on the whole, reliable.

Cliff notes: I read the forums for over a month. Was very concerned. Ordered anyway. Received Week 8 i7 27". Upon first boot noticed yellow. 2 unbiased people saw the same thing (said greenish/yellowish tinge). Now deciding if I go with the screen replacement or return it altogether?

Woo hoo! Just got confirmation my i5 has been shipped. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Should be a week or so before it gets here the way shipping works.

Keeping my fingers crossed there nothing wrong with it.

;)

Because the code starts with W9XXXX.

looking in to peoples posts, i assume that is the correct indicator of the week.

Nop, thats only the code from where it came, the next 3 numbers it says the year and theeeenn, the week it was made, Wx (code from where it was made) xx (the year) x (week it was built)

W8 (shangai) 0 (2010) 07 (week)

-> W8007 <-

----

Correct me if i'm wrong guys

Both mine and my partners week 8 i7's arrived today and they are perfect. No yellow, no noise, no dead pixels, quiet and running perfectly.

So at least there are some good ones getting through.

I ordered my i7 on Saturday morning after Gizmodo concluded their iMac saga. I expected not to have it for a few weeks (I'm in Ireland and the European Apple Stores are still saying 2 weeks shipping). Got an email this morning (Monday) to say it's shipped - I should have it by the end of the week! The delays must be pretty much sorted out. I'm sure the shipping times on the website will be upgraded soon.

do let us know how yours turn out when you get it. i checked last night on the site and it does say 2 weeks shipping... but i still am hesitant with all these yellow problems and the talk that a new revision might be out this summer... :-(

My 27" i7 iMac arrived today. I'm at work but my wife told me it's here. Ordered on 2/25, it shipped on 2/27, delivery today. That's pretty dang fast! I'll post my updates later tonight.

You're so lucky! I ordered the same day through a reseller. Hopefully mine will be here soon too. :)

My wife just let me know that my replacement i7 iMac has been delivered today. I am at work so I can't check yet, but here's to hoping it has no problems. :apple:

our i5 results

we got ours on Thanksgiving Black Friday sale, got it home and found a faint yellowing gradient toward the bottom. My wife is an artist but thought the coloring acceptable. now, three months later, the gradient has vanished. Must have needed some time to age.

Today I took the plunge...bought the iMac 27" i7 upgraded to 8gb RAM. My email says it will ship on the 5th...I hope so, very excited! If they had it at the apple store I would be using it right now!

finally got mine all setup, this thing is a beauty! Very happy with the quality and performance.

So you guys think its safe to configure and purchase an imac quad core from apple.com ?

If you never ever visit this section of the forums again, yes. Otherwise, a big no no. It is definitely not safe. But then again, it all depends on what you, and only you consider a defect.

my 27in i7 is on its way from China as of yesterday is the serial number the number on the shipping invoice i got that begins with a W? mine beginning with W6851, so this is a week 51 model?

I am waiting to purchase an i5 from Best Buy but they are always sold out!! It was up on the site for like 2 days and now it is out of stock once again. I was planning on putting have of the amount on my BB credit card and the rest paid in cash, but nope.

Furthermore, I can't even buy online because there is no way to split the amount. So I went to the store to see if they could "preorder" it and the guy said no, they have to have it in stock in order to charge it to the card. *sigh*

This will be my first Apple computer. The iPod Touch made me convert. :)

Mine's scheduled for delivery today by UPS, after leaving Shanghai on Monday! Does anybody else think that UPS are just great?

I'll post back with a report after running through the few tests - hopefully tonight.

just got my iMac, its a week 9, i did the yellow test and i can barely barely tell a slight warmth on the bottom of the screen, or it can be that my eyes wanna see it, its so slight. Im gonna keep using the computer since I have 2 weeks and see how it bothers me if at all. so far its blazing fast, and AWESOME. Im gonna go netflix crazy with this thing!
