I'm curious why that site would be any more pointless than this thread then?
There are certainly enough horror stories here that have made me hold off my buying decision. The other site simply aims to graph out what will hopefully be an apparent trend when the percentage of problem-free units increases.
If someone posts their last post here after getting a great machine, then fills in the quick info on the other site, I couldn't care less if they never stop by at either site again.
Personally, I think both are very helpful. Information is not the enemy!
Information can feel like the enemy if you let it.
I started lurking here months ago.
Started looking at the iMac 27" at the start of the year.
I was very hesitant, but I decided to just do it. Shipping was fast. Very nice.
Ordered Mid-February. Its a Week 8.
I noticed yellowing the second I started up! I have had it for 2 days only.
I hate to validate all the whistleblowers because I wanted to believe they were wrong, but here I go with my yellowish iMac - its not that bad, but its VERY noticeable at the same time. I could live with it if I HAD to...luckily I don't.
I think this is a great machine with one major flaw, and I believe Apple pushes out a product even if QC is not up to spec.
They start to take note of what problems occur the first half year or year of production, and THEN they correct the issue.
Costs go toward repair rather than Quality Control which would also delay production/shipping to demanding customers.
Just got off the phone with Apple customer service.
They told me to get a screen replacement from my local authorized retailer (NOT an Apple store-not sure what I want to do here)
So for now, I feel like another statistic, and quite foolish.
The machine runs like a dream. It's super slick and fast, and I am very much in love with it. Except for the yellow of course.
Information is very valuable, and a huge corporation like Apple cannot deny claims like this when access to this type of information is readily available and on the whole, reliable.
Cliff notes: I read the forums for over a month. Was very concerned. Ordered anyway. Received Week 8 i7 27". Upon first boot noticed yellow. 2 unbiased people saw the same thing (said greenish/yellowish tinge). Now deciding if I go with the screen replacement or return it altogether?
