Just got home, and i started unboxing the iMac

fingers crossed. :)

_____

so far so good, no cracks or other kind of damage, after seeing the box i feared the worse. it appears that the protective pellicle have been placed in haste. are all full of wrinkles, is not stretched out as it was the first I have received...hummm..

Just got an email saying that my replacement machine has been shipped. Very happy to note that its getting UPS treatment all the way from Shanghai, estimated delivery is Monday - now that's fast! I haven't got the new serial number yet - any idea what week machines are currently shipping, and how they are looking for yellow tinge?

Well the replacement arrived today - yes just 2 days shipping time from China - very impressed with Apple and UPS about that!

The replacement... has no dead pixels (yey!) but still has somewhat of a yellow tinge, but I think I can live with it - it's only noticeable when I look for it.

The new machine is a Week 8 model - I wonder what the week 9's will be like...?!

Apple let me keep the old iMac until delivery of the new one - I now have a 10 day window to send back the faulty one. I did need to return an email to Apple confirming I agreed to be billed for another machine if I fail to return it, which is fair I guess. I did need to call Apple to sort that out tho, as the return carrier TNT just told me to wait for the new one to arrive - if I had have done that I think I would still be waiting, whilst Apple waited to receive the old one before shipping the new.

:D :D :D

I am happy (VERY) happy to report that my second iMac i5 week 7, is the Winner =), no buzzz zzz zzzzz, no hiiiiiiigh pitch noises, no yellow tinge!

PERFECTO!!!!

Like you say, i'm a happy camper.

Finally i got The One!!! :D

Good luck to the rest of you my friends

Great. Weeks 7 iMacs seem to be much better. Be careful, if you stare at it for hours (with a white background) you may hallucinate a yellow tinge or find notice 1/1000 lcd light imperfections. ;)

LOL

don't worry i wont. i'll go gothic style....al black around me :D ahaha.

I'm vaccinated against this kind of stuff, since day one that the 27" came out, i read all threads of all kind of problems lolol, soo i've learned my lesson.

Although i cant stop looking at it :D pretty!

Got my Week 8 today.
So far no issues, no yellow, bleeding backlight, buzzing, dead pixels, or anything like that.

Perfect!

Have you already ordered it?

first stage yeah, i need to ring tomorrow as soon as i finish work to confirm all the financing details (i'm financing it)

but yeah as of tomorrow it'll be ordered, praying for a good one, live in the british countryside, don't feel like driving to an apple store!

I've been wanting an i7 since they launched, but was waiting awhile to see how the yellow-tinge issue worked out. I'd love to buy one now, but I think I'm going to hold off for the next speed bump. I would expect it to happen sometime between April and June, but who knows! Congrats to all that have received a beautiful machine!

How many damn changes in shipping status do we have to endure? I've gone from prepared for shipping to shipped to in transit to customer and now preparing handover to final carrier, yet my Carrier Tracking Number still shows In transit to final destination - carrier details to be updated shortly.

I guess this means my (week 8, fingers X'd) machine is in the U.K. but I've no idea how long it will take to get to me :(

Can anyone tell me what I need to look out for in the delivery status so I know that the delivery man will soon come knocking my door?

I am currently in the same situation! Ordered on Feb 19th, Shipped Feb 22nd (great!) but no change in status on Apple Store tracking page. I am also in the UK.

For the sake of my sanity and so that i can stop checking the status page every 15mins, how long did it take your order status to change from 'In Transit' to 'preparing handover to final carrier'?

I have an estimated date of 6th March for delivery but considering its been shipped so quickly from China, i'm hoping to receive much sooner than this.

If my shipping is anything to go by, you should receive it around 5 days after order:

I have an estimated date of 6th March for delivery but considering its been shipped so quickly from China, i'm hoping to receive much sooner than this.

It seemed to change from in transit to preparing for handover to final carrier quite quickly, overnight in fact, then since my last post it's now changed to in transit to customer - shipment on schedule .... I too am losing my sanity, checking every few hours and the last status seems like almost a backward step!!

My delivery date schedule is March 3rd but considering it must be in the U.K by now, I really hope it doesn't take that long!

UPDATE: spoke to Apple, seems if you order the Applecare (like I did), the tracking won't work until the package is with the U.K. carrier for delivery as there are two elements to the order, one which ships from Shanghai, one which is merged with that shipment in the Hinckley depot in Leicestershire, at which point it becomes one trackable shipment. Seems my iMac is in Hinckley now waiting for carrier pick up .... delivery tomorrow would be nice; it's my birthday!!!

That would explain it! i too ordered the AppleCare with my iMac so that is why the tracking is currently useless. Thanks for the info.

Just out of interest, when did you actually order?

Fingers X'd it gets to you for your birthday!

Looking at Drews post, it seems like the iMacs do a five leg journey of around 9,700 miles for a straight line journey of 5,700! Not quite the environmentally friendly product :apple: would have us believe!

I ordered on 13th February and original delivery estimate was 17th March!

Fingers X'd it gets to you for your birthday!

Thank you, hopefully yours will arrive too!

if you have a business account with cdw you can get 27" imacs overnight.

They normally have atleast 5-10 in stock even the i7's.

I order mine last thursday and received it friday.

Havent' had any problems yet but i also have not looked up to see what week it was built.

exactly, which is why that site is pointless.

I'm curious why that site would be any more pointless than this thread then?

There are certainly enough horror stories here that have made me hold off my buying decision. The other site simply aims to graph out what will hopefully be an apparent trend when the percentage of problem-free units increases.

If someone posts their last post here after getting a great machine, then fills in the quick info on the other site, I couldn't care less if they never stop by at either site again.

Personally, I think both are very helpful. Information is not the enemy!

Information is not the enemy!

.... unless it's only half the information, or one side of the story so to speak.

As someone pointed out in another thread only earlier today, the majority of people who bought iMacs won't stop by this site to post as they'll be too busy enjoying their machines. So if only people with problems bother to post, then unfortunately the percentage of people with problems is going to look high in comparison to the overall sample size.

I only hope I won't be joining those reporting problems after I take delivery of my machine .... tomorrow! Roll on Mr UPS!
