Bought an iMac 24 inch in September. Then the 27 inch comes out. I went back to the store to see about exchanging but it was after the 14 days. They said they may take it back for a $200 restocking fee. I been sending e-mails trying to get a better result. Anyone have a clue on the best approach to exchanging my iMac or a good e-mail address?

My brother had the same problem, they still replaced his. He had to pay the restocking fee. But his was bought OVER a month ago. All you have to do is say you will not accept such fact where you spend money on a product that is outdated within a month and is BETTER and CHEAPER that what u payed for. Be assertive, and they will gladly exchange it for you. My brother got a free iPod with his order from the back to school deal, so he had to pay for the iPod or Return it with his iMac. So he returned it and it all worked out, after the restocking fee ofcourse.

Hope that helps, cheers.

free express shipping...

I called to upgrade my shipping from the free shipping to the express 2 day shipping... it was free and I did not ask for it to be free and I was willing to pay... So everyone call and get faster shipping for free...

Frankly, you are lucky they would be willing to accept the computer back at all, even with a restocking fee. It's two months past the purchase date. There is no way they'd give you a full refund, IMO.

Their offer is completely fair. I would probably take it.

Yeah, take the offer and run! I think it is a great deal! Excellent customer service!

If it was opened, there's no way you're not going to get hit with a 10% restocking fee. They were being extremely nice. Hope they're still willing to give you that deal since you passed it up and more time has passed.

$165.00 of CA sales tax is why :D

Unfortunately, I could not get the configuration I wanted so had to pay sales tax....

Has anyone tried to link via Fatwallet or Bing Shopping.... I did get 1% back via Fatwallet. Bing had no link to Apple.... Being a Microsoft product, I can see why there wasn't. The do link to some of the other sites...

The "a day or two" notice is new. Earlier in the week was "we are hearing we should have them in our warehouse soon."

*crossed fingers for shipment by Thursday*

At this point if I can get my iMac SHIPPED by my birthday (the 12th) I'll be happy.

And sense everyone is doing their upgrade stories.

I'm keeping my 2007 MacBook but 27" will be replacing it as my day-to-day machine:

screen: 13" MB --> 27" IPS -- will probably still have it connected to a 23.5" HP LCD monitor that I have my Macbook connected to now

processor: 2.16 C2D --> 2.8 i7

RAM: 4 GB RAM (3 useable) --> 4 GB RAM (will upgrade to 8 GB as soon as I get it in my hands)

HD: 160GB --> 1 TB (but will use it with my existing 750GB and 500GB drives)

Graphics: GMA 950 --> ATI 4850 -- Talk about the big-time upgrade

I'm so excited!

Upgrade Story:

2007 Aluminum 24" iMac

2.8 Core 2 Extreme -> Core 2.8 i7 Quad
4 gigs of RAM -> 8 gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon 2600 Pro 256MB - ATI 4850, 516MB
750 gig -> 2TB

For me this really was a 2x performance upgrade.

i5-i7 hot swap?

so I ordered a i5 and wanted to swap it for the i7 but i'd have to cancel my i5 order and start at the back of the line for shipping(ordered i5 nov 3rd). so i was wondering if its possible for me to purchase a i7 860 and replace the existing i5 core right when it ships in? i was told by the apple rep that the 27" imac quad cores can be hot swaped quite easliy, i hope there not fixed soldered in.

I went to the Apple Store in Bellevue, WA last night to actually see one of the 27" monitors in person. I pulled up my own photography website, so I would have a really clear understanding of the quality compared to my 2005 Dell XPS desktop with a 21" monitor, and I was totally blown away. For instance, with my new computer I'm going to have to spend more time smoothing skin on the people I shoot. I never saw all the fine details in skin on my old computer, but the new one really shows it all.
Honestly, I walked out of the store heavy hearted, because I knew I could be walking out with a great 2-core machine. It's much harder to wait, after seeing one of these beasts first hand.
BTW, I had a feeling that I wouldn't like the magic mouse because I use my computer about 8 hours a day and I want a really great mouse. However, I'm going to continue holding off on spending another $100 on a new logitech mouse. The magic mouse was very intuitive and easy to use.

Just go to the back of the line, it will likely only delay the order a day or two anyway.

Hi,

I like "We've confirmed this item has shipped from Apple and should arrive in our warehouse within a day or two."!

Maybe we get our iMacs sooner than we expected! :D

My upgrade story is a little bit weird..

Sold my desktop-replacement-notebook and my 50" Plasma-TV to buy my :apple: iMac... :rolleyes:
I hope this wasn't a mistake.

20.1" -> 27"
Intel T9300 2x 2.5GHz -> i5 2.66GHz
4GB DDR2 667 -> 4GB DDR3 1066 (will upgrade to 8GB later!)
640GB HD -> 1TB HD
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT -> ATI Radeon 4850
And of course I'm changing to the better OS.

At this moment I'm working on a 15.4 Acer Aspire notebook.
Folks, this sucks.
Sold my old computer on Oct. 27th.

I'd be really glad about the shipment of this beautiful new computer!

that is possible :D

the reason im not doing it though is because its cheaper to upgrade through apple over here in australia!! the i7 costs more! :(

You're a photographer working on a computer for 8+ hours a day and you're still thinking about a good mouse... what you need is Medium sized Wacom tablet for roughly $200 and that's going to be right after the 27" iMac the second best thing you ever purchased! I've been using a tablet for design and photography for the last 8 years and I'm converting one friend after another and none of them would ever go back to a mouse for design work, ever. The tablets is so much more natural, ergonomic and intuitive.... sure, takes a couple of days to get fully used to it but you won't regret. :cool:

Honestly, it's only been four days. I don't think it's going to make that much difference in wait time to make it worth going through all that hassle. I would cancel and get what you want. Another thing I would want to clarify is whether swapping the CPU would void the terms of the warranty.

I agree with Robotkiller, I would pay the $200 since you had your iMac for a while two months already.

I can't wait for my 27" to ship either. I ordered a 2.8 GHz Core i7 with 8GB from the French online Apple Store.

Do some of you have more details from Apple on the shipping date?

I shoot with a 5dMKII - pretty massive RAW images. When I had the 27" cd2 (defective and now waiting on an i7) I was blown away by this panel. It's the best I have ever used - bar none. I was actually seeing detail that I hadn't noticed before on my old screen (24" iMac - no slouch in the monitor department).

That 27" panel alone would be worth over $1200 for me. To get an Apple i7 with 8G of RAM and a TB HDD for only $1000 more in a seamless package is absolutely amazing.
