Intel cut the price of their 10 series chips and I'm going to build a beastly Cascade Lake system with WINDOWS. I don't care if I lose some macOS features. I'm just tired of Apple's false promises, bugs, slow ****** buggy graphics drivers, slow APIs compared to Vulkan or Direct X. The fact they still sold that 6,1 at full price in 2019 should tell you that they spit on us and don't care if they shove us into our graves.

Apple rarely drops the prices on a product as they age. This isn't new. And yes, they are mostly concerned about stock price - Tim is a bean counter, and as a reminder in theory, he works for the shareholders, not the customers.

It would be nice if Apple just turned over video driver development to AMD. We would have direct equivalence to our windows brethren, and it would be a major reason to stay with Apple. But it won't happen on Tim's watch. Tim is a bean counter, and as a reminder in theory, he works for the shareholders, not the customers.

Apple hasn't made any false promises - they haven't made any promises. Everyone here read into Apple announcements and interviews what they hoped would happen. The 7,1 is a direct continuation of the 6,1 - just in a different enclosure. Tim is a bean counter and as a reminder, in theory, he works for the shareholders, not the customers.

Just like the 6,1, it is targeted to video production. Just like the 6,1, it will launch with obsolete video cards. Just like the 6,1, it will only perform well with OSX only software (in comparisons to it's competition in the PCverse.). Just like the 6,1, it will launch with proprietary "features" that the other 95% of the market doesn't support. Remember, Tim doesn't use a computer like we do (Hence his inane comment on how an iPad can replace a computer). Did I mention that Tim is a bean counter?

None of the Apple systems have a 10 series chip, so price cuts on those are irrelalvent. (And based on Apple's refresh rate, they won't have any until it reaches EoL.) AFA gaming APIs, very few development houses are on Vulkan. If they were, it would be real easy to port to Metal. And then maybe, just maybe, Apple users could get some good games. Tim is a bean counter, and doesn't see the value of bringing in the gaming community to Apple - they expect to upgrade their computers on a regular basis - and that is money that isn't going to Apple. Tim is a bean counter, and isn't going to do anything that put money in other company's pockets instead of Apple's pocket.

If you are moving to windows, why on earth are you staying with Intel? You could build an AMD machine that outperforms a base 7,1 for about 1/3 the price. You could even install OSX on it if you wanted to, (see AMD-OSX).

$2,000 will get you a Ryzen 9 based system with 12 cores/24 threads, 128Gb ram, NVMe SSD, and a modern video card. At $6,000 you will have a system that will out-perform a top of the line 7,1. The 7,1 tops out at 28 cores -3rd Gen Threadripper will start at 24 cores. And then there is EYPC.....

Intel is having their bulldozer moment. They have nothing available today, and their road map is empty for the next couple of years.

Dude I didn't even say 'fight all da corporate powa'. These words happened in your head and you should take a moment to understand how you suddenly got triggered into losing 150 IQ points lol

I said price and performance.

Tired of the way Apple manipulates and disrespects its users. They don't care one bit for us. We are just chumps to make their top shareholders rich.

Thanks for realizing I have at least 150 IQ points to lose though :-D

Hope you get them back quickly :) Don't get triggered! :)

I told some of the AMD fanboys...watch what Intel does. They will cut the prices heavily. They are a monopoly and they did it to AMD so many times. When AMD gets crushed the prices go back up. That's why diversification with ARM is good. It keeps Intel and AMD worried.

What would Intel "crush" AMD with? Intel's response to Zen 2 will arrive sometime 2nd Half 2020 - just in time to be crushed by Zen 3.

Andy Grove once pointed out that a new fab process would mean that you wouldn't know for 5 years if you had blown your foot off. That is what happened with AMD wrt Bulldozer, and it is what is happening with Intel wrt their 10nm process. I am sure they will be able to compete against AMD a couple years from now, but at the moment, they got nothing with CPUs. Graphics, on the other hand could very well be a different story. Athough on the OSX platform, it will be the 3rd modern family of GPUs that won't work in a 7,1.

The price drop on the 10 series of chips only means that they are 40% overpriced, compared to equivalent AMD chips instead of 100%. And then there is Threadripper 3000..........

Cutting prices is fine, if you are comfortable with the concept of "substitute goods". Intel dropping the price of their CPUs doesn't change the fact that they still don't have PCIe 4.0, and the thermals on the 10 series are enough to fry an egg (165 watt TDP - at base frequency). Why on earth do you think that the 7,1 needs that cooling system?

Afa ARM.......

It may be important one day, but that day isn't today, and tomorrow ain't looking good either.

What about the bugs in AMD CPUs? Would you rather have a 7nm CPU that crashes, or a 14nm CPU that runs (and note that the definition of "nm" varies between foundaries).

Let's see.

"Bugs" in AMD CPUs vs. Intel security mitigations?

I can live with Zen 2 teething troubles - (I didn't even bother to move my copy of Destiny 2 over to Steam, and over 22 years since I first compiled a linux kernal - it still isn't ready for prime time.)

Zen 2 has a future - Intel's 14nm++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ process doesn't.

You mean new Intel architecture next year but we are talking about price and performance. The 10 series Cascade Lake revision coming next month will spit in AMD's face and laugh at the Mac Pro in many cases. AMD has still not caught up with Intel on per core performance. They were just selling lots of cores for a low price. Now Intel will just laugh their asses off and do the same.

Hate to break it to you but this is not the case. Look at all the leaked benchmarks, tech reviews and up coming threadripper 3 news. Intel slashed their prices by 50% and are still going to struggle in hedt market!

So the PCWorld premiere is clickbait, right?

Showing a picture of a Mac Pro video that is scheduled for premiere in 12 hours but then they will be showing a completely different system in the actual video?

You’ll find out in 9 hours I guess, but it could be another video from salty PC fans where they build a PC and then belittle the Mac Pro with it for 20 mins, showing all these benchmarks and gaming..

Pcworld in general are not giving fake news/videos
So i guess there are 70% chances to be the real deal

That's not the real case, geometry is different and finish is obviously garbage. 0% chance to be the real 7.1.

it would look like that if they took a screen shot from the ar app for the new Mac Pro I think.
No, the AR app shows a correct sandblasted/anodized finish, that’s just a raw alluminum side panel and a badly worked front panel(the real one have significantly more airflow).

So the real mac pro finish is not garbage? Nice
As said the finish is different and much pricier BTW.

It's just one of the many attempt at building a cheaper version by using off the shelf part assembled inside a custom made case. Of course it will not match the feature of the real system.

How do we know how much this costs? or if it is less than the mac pro case? a link to the price for this case please? i like it a lot...maybe even more than the standard aluminium mac pro case

There is no link because this is PCWorld's teaser to get folks to tune into some video production their doing later today. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a one-off they did just for the video. I also wouldn't be surprised if it's as @apolloa says, where this is something like an EPYC workstation in an ATX case wrapped up in an aesthetic shell to bait Apple customers/users. It reminds me a lot of the sort of baiting thumbnails/videos LTT puts together around Apple, despite their otherwise decent (if weird) coverage. (EDIT: Hah, was writing this while the video went up... figures.)

No proper polish work on the side panel (polish = money). Likely done in 5 pieces instead of 3 (larger pieces = more money). Which means no mechanical mechanism for removing the shell like on the Mac Pro (costs money). There's no insight into how the frame is put together, so there's lots of opportunities to use cheaper frames behind the outer shell.

Still that can be other than aluminium...it looks like is made from polished rocks (travertine) at least the side panels
So, outstanding...teaser for the Wednesday...and Wednesday probably a trailer for the weekend

The side it's clearly aluminum as well as the front panel(it's one of the very few options since other metals are much harder to work with using standard tools). No way you can cut travertine that thin BTW, it would be extremely fragile;)
