So the new 5k Apple display is a LG one.
I think it's safe now to assume that Apple displays belong to the past.
But let's see how this event will end...
[doublepost=1477591397][/doublepost]These are news! the mbp still has a headphone jack! and a billion emojis!

Yeah I'm guessing the partnership means that they aren't going to produce their own display in 2017, either. Interested in how they got a 5K display down to a single TB3 cable, though...

OK just for a bit of levity, who else noticed when Federighi was retouching that photo of the well endowed chick in the lacy top and he said "that's a nice set of... edits".

LOL

That's all I got. Off to look for a proper HP, Lenovo or Dell.

Remenber DarkNetGuy 'leaks' or 'predictions' he/she or whatever past june named the touch screen strip on the keyboards of the nMBP as "Magic Toolbar" which seems the actual name of the feature, that was on june 2... (take that Ming-chi kuo)...

At least on macOS its named Magic Toolbar, still not clear about the official name.

Other prediction i remember from him is the 4K Thunderbolt display and 5K Retina Display non-thunderbolt (usb-c/dp 1.3) [this one i double checked later from another source, no eGPU TBRDP5K yet]

Interesting, keep this on track just in case...

Remember when I said about this, well the prediction come moreless acurrate except just inverted, and Apple opted for an TB3 Display w/o actual Thunderbolt 3 capabilities (only transport Video/Audio both Bi-Di and add few USB3 ports but no TB3 daisy chaining neither possible to hook any TB3 peripheral.

Ahh someone knows about certain moron named Mark Gurman ? he has a big eGpu Thunderbolt Display now embed where never will see the sun...

I remember too DNG said about 5K display non Apple branded.

So some how DNG actually had insider information at Apple.

It means we could wait new Mac pro ASAP AMD readies it's Vega GPU or Apple re adopted nVidia pascal.

BTW I'm very happy today, and I wanted a black MacBook Pro (Ahh another DNG leak)

So the new MBP without the touch bar with a 2,4GHz CPU, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD is $2199

The new MBP with the touch bar, a 2,9GHz CPU, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD is $2199

It is quite funny that what I was saying about Displays materialized in slightly different way.

I was talking about 4K display 21.5 Inch and 5K 27 Inch.

LG UltraFine 4K and 5K Displays that are available on Apple Online Store are exactly that.

Anyone see the RadeonPro 400 series announced and being used in new MBP a possible good sign for upcoming refresh iMac and Mac Pro GPUs?

The new rMBP are more expensive now.
Has anyone noticed that the nMP's options seem to have lower costs? Am I seeing it wrong? I believe they lowered the SSD prices. Some prayers were heard, about time. The base models are still priced the same though.
Going by the rMBP, we'll get 2TB SSDs with the new nMP.

zeph, noticed that mem speeds are different? 1866 vs 2133? Naughty Apple!!

I wonder what are the display resolutions now? Increased?

Those Radeon Pros are funny, 450, 455 and 460. pretty sure we'll see them in nMP, only the higher end models 470 and 480 maybe.

koyoot, we have no 5K here yet. How much does it go for? Never mind, 1399€. don't like the looks of these LGs much, doesn't feel like Apple. But they are DCI-P3 though. Guess not HDR though.
Being TB3 only is a plus.
Why on earth wouldn't Apple, since they co-developed these babies, make their own design instead? The panel could have been LG the same, and keep the TBD design. that would have been sweet.

No, Nvidia Pascal series walks all over AMD's lineup in performance and performance per watt. Pretty good pricing too. It's fine if Apple is locked into a contract with AMD or whatever, but we really need some reliable, reasonably priced eGPU solutions. What's on the market now is either:

- Akitio, Bizon, etc. ridiculously priced, underpowered, and not at all production ready
- One Stop Systems (Maxexpansion.com) professional grade and priced accordingly
[doublepost=1477611699][/doublepost]Yeah, Apple telling us about this fantastic LG monitor just felt wrong too. It's ugly and doesn't match anything in the lineup. It just seems lazy.

I remember the days of the Cinema Displays. People happily overpaid for them because of the aesthetics and how nicely they functioned within the ecosystem (power button woke up the tower, keyboard brightness keys adjusted the monitor, firewire ports, etc). I'd happily overpay (slightly) for another matching Cinema Display.

"Since they say it’s so important to Apple, we asked them why it took four years, four months and 16 days to deliver what they call a “milestone” and a “big step forward” for its top-of-the-line laptops.

“The calendar isn’t what drives any of the decisions,” Schiller says in a 90-minute briefing at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California. “We challenge the teams to do great work and sometimes that great work can be done in one year, sometimes it takes three years… What we really care about is creating new innovations in the Mac and continuing the story that has really defined Apple for so many years.”

Follow up q surely - why the hell cant you just bump the model with new CPU & GPU whilst the design team is between redesigns?
Seems to be a misdirection answer due to the wrong question. (People don't mind the length of time between redesigns so much as length of time between refreshes)

Mac Pro was again left out of the pictures of the Mac line up... shows they really are all about the other line ups... and don't really care about the trash can.

When will the iMac get an update? And can someone explain to me whether the i7s they're selling are the same as the i7 that's running inside my 2011 MacBook Pro 17"? If so, it's barely any faster if ghz has any meaning... I'd love someone to school me if possible! Thanks!

When you apply a proper workload to either, it won't matter - they'll both throttle and run at the same speed as a Pentium 4.

Well, they did a significant upgrade to Final Cut X, so that's a good sign. It really looks like a professional app now, and does a lot of the stuff I wish it did from the beginning. That, and the fact that Logic is still going strong, are good signs.

I think it comes down to this: if Apple's intention was to wait until there was an AMD GPU worth using in their nMP chassis, then there's a clear marker for when a Mac Pro would show up: once Vega is ready. I doubt they're waiting for Skylake Xeon because Xpoint 3D seems to be a total mess (and is being delayed until Kaby Lake apparently.) AMD's GPUs were way too hot and power hungry last generation, they've righted the ship to an extent. If Vega becomes available, and nothing's changed, then it's a pretty good sign that they're not interested anymore.

This all being said, the real reason I want a new Mac Pro is so I can stick the equivalent GPU in my Hackintosh.... Can't afford Xeons as a student, but I'm not interested in paying for a laptop attached to a 5K screen. A non-Xeon desktop shouldn't be such a gaping hole in their lineup.

The problem could have been prevented IF apple told the pro users what the status was within this year rather than keeping users in the dark. Pro users don't have time to wait for Apple.

Yeah, I think it's a fundamental mismatch between Apple's hardware approach (with software they seem to at least get industry feedback and hints) and what pros want. If they announced that a Vega nMP was coming, but in 3 months, they'd basically be saying goodbye to any sales until that announcement. I'm happy that FCPX has evolved, it was something I was worrying about for my own work, but now it'd just be nice to see some top end hardware be made available. There needs to be a nMP that runs both Resolve and FCPX well.
