8-core, 16-thread 35W laptop CPUs ready in 2020 from AMD.

Unfortunately, the Intel 4-core CPU they likely will put in the new MacBook Pro is going to be a joke in comparison.

macbook pro is using 8-core 45w. so is a joke ?
the 13" Mba using 7w or used 15w...placing an 35W 8 core into that macbook air or even 13" mbp closer will be an battery and thermal nightmare

4800H during load, sustained, clocks at 3.5 GHz, while drawing 39W of power(whole, CPU package), on all 8 cores, and 16 threads, according to chinese review.

There is no single Intel CPU with 8 cores/16 threads that can clock at 3.5 GHz in under 40W thermal envelope.

AMD just broke the game of efficiency, and people cannot even see this because the reviews are not a landslide.

Heck. 8C/16T CPUs from Intel have to have 92W PL2 state to get to 3.6 GHz on all cores. Which is the sole reason why all of current Laptops that have Intel CPUs struggle to handle the heat, and why they run so low on clocks, after short bursts.

4800H is by default an 45W cpu...so its direct competitor for the 16" mbp not with the 14" mbp quad core cpu, thats why my reply was to andg...who thought this is an direct competitor for the 13" mbp
What laptops has this 4800H ? because i only judge after i lay hands on one

This is one of those laptops, very decent specs, with hideous design.

And I see that already there are some reviews of 4800U poping out, and laptops are beating 10th gen Intel SoC's in battery life AND performance(!).

It appears as AMD has just completely destroyed last Intel dominance bastion, and lapped them... O_O

Let me get this straight. 15W, 8 core/ 16 thread APU gives you performance high enough that you can pop Virtual Machines, write code, while also staying cool and quiet o_O.

Jesus. Even I had not expected something like this.

Yeah AMD has 8C/16T parts that outperform what Intels offering from 15W-45W. But I’m sure those 4C/8T Ice lake chips have an ace up their sleeve right /s

It’s funny, I remember when being an Apple fan meant that you hated Intel. Not to say that the ensuing years of partnership haven’t mostly been good for all of us, but since the release of Ryzen, it’s felt more and more like you can’t be an Apple fan without being an Intel shill...

With each passing day, I become more inclined to go with the new iPad Pro instead of the new Macbook Pro, despite not quite having the full functionality I require.

I sure hope its the 14.1" one. I woke up kinda sad this morning seeing all these updates but not the one I wanted. lol.
Yeah. I'm waiting for the 14" MBP... But if it doesn't come soon I'll probably break down and get the new Air. Honestly the Air is probably powerful enough for me, but a 14" screen seems like the sweet spot.

I'm not a big fan of the Air, i like the boxy shape of the Pro models. lol.

Now They must refresh the 13” MBP , it doesn’t make sense now and offer really bad value compare to the air. It’s happening

Tomorrow, maybe? I think they will want to clean the decks of the remaining butterfly keyboard models.

I’ve finally decided to buy a 13 MBP, but really dislike how the butterfly keys feel, it’s been hard waiting and now it’s even harder hoping the refresh comes soon!

The lack of WiFi6 on the new MacBook Air really worries me. If there is a 14" MacBook Pro, it'll surely have WiFi6, right? I just got a WiFi6 router and a Gigabit internet access, so there's no way I'll buy anything with WiFi5.

I think people are sure that Apple won't let the 13" MacBook Pro be the only one with the old keyboard for long. And they won't release an updated 13" now and then make it disappear when the 14" arrives later this year. And with the new MacBook Air out today, the old 13" really isn't worth its price anymore.
