Looks like its 0.7mm thicker - not that significant, but does suggest they've changed the chassis slightly (presumably to accommodate the new keyboard).

At least it is now clearly shown why Apple chose to provide borderline cooling in the MBA.

I was hoping the 14' screen to justify the extra cost against the Dell XPS 13. Now, the dilemma lies between Dell and MBA i5 8gb/512

I’m still interested in the custom i5 chip. Are we certain it’s a28W chip and not a 15W that’s been increased? Thanks.

I feel bad for anyone who cancelled their air order hoping for a refreshed base model
I did, but I’m not too bummed since now I’ll just wait a little longer to use the back to school deal (if they’re doing it but hopefully they will).

Welp I was hoping my decision would be made easy once the new MBP dropped but since I had been waiting for a 14 inch that did not come that decision has been made harder. I currently have a 2013 MBP that I upgraded the SSD to 500GB and 8GB of RAM but I really was looking to upgrade soon. I mainly use it for web browsing, streaming, and music production on logic as well as some sims 4. Do you think my money will be spent better on the newly released $1,799 MBP 13 inch or refurbished base 16 inch model? Or do you think I would honestly be fine with one of the base model MacBooks?

My 2013 MacBook Pro base model would crash whenever I tried using any music production DAW's so I am hesitant but I know the laptops have gotten upgrades since.

I’m the same for the back to school deal. It’ll save me loads now that the £1799 comes with 16 as standard for ram

In doing the math, the newer 10th gen will be cheaper than the 13” refurb I just bought. I was never solely focused on the entry level specs so I may roll with this. More time before the 2021 devices come out.

Think I’ll call Apple and see if I can get an exception on returning the refurb.

This is really disappointing. Not even 16GB of RAM in the base model. More the $1,700 just for extra RAM. Jesus. A “Pro” laptop. Lmao, right. And why does Apple think it’s okay to push out such a tired design with those thick, uneven bezels, especially after releasing the 16-inch? I just don’t understand.

So basically the $1,799 model is the sweet spot for the 13" Pro, going cheaper the Air is still probably a better option unless you absolutely need a P3 display or are going to be hammering the CPU constantly, while the 16" is a better option for anything over ~$2,000.

Besides the Screen size and a slight difference for boost clock I was fairly right on this prediction

I’m honestly still enjoying my Surface Laptop 3. It’s a breath of fresh air in comparison to a MacBook, but I’m nervous about its longevity, especially its fragile screen, which I’ve read is susceptible to cracking. I’ve never owned a Windows computer before, and I trust Apple.

If I bump up the RAM to 16GB in the base model MBP 13-inch, it’ll be $1,393 with my student discount, which isn’t bad and is cheaper than the Air with the 16GB/512GB option. I don’t know what to do. I need a reliable laptop by June because of my huge online test. I really like the SL3, but I don’t know if I can trust Microsoft like I can Apple. Ugh.

Lower tier is in a really awkward/ artificially limited position. Think it would have been better to have axed the lower tier model rather than doing this half hearted update, and just made an 8GB/512 version of the higher tier for $1,599 to tuck in above the Air. Has a nicer, simpler continuity to it, making the purchase decision easier:

$999 - Air i3/8/256
$1,299 - Air i5/8/512
$1,599 - Pro i5/8/512
$1,799 - Pro i5/16/512
$1,999 - Pro i5/16/1TB

All 13" devices, all 10th gen chips, with nice price/performance/feature increments.

Yes, which we assumed they’d have to do, so I’m surprised they didn’t upgrade the screen size as well given they were amending the chassis design.

I wonder if this lends weight to to the rumour that ARM will be here sooner than anybody expected?
