I still have no idea - like, none whatsoever - why it would matter to anyone whether they get a new phone a few hours earlier or later.

It's pretty hard to believe that people wouldn't have more important things to do than stand in line for hours to get a gadget a few hours earlier. Can someone explain this to me? What exactly is the difference between getting your phone at 10pm on the 29th, or at 9am on the 30th? I mean, who cares?

I bet if you just leisurely walked into a store at 11pm after the campers have been served and are hopefully gone you can just buy that thing like a normal person without making a big deal out of it. And if it's sold out (which will NOT happen at 98% of stores) -- well, go to the store down the road, or wait until tomorrow -- it's not exactly a reason to kill yourself over. Reality check, anyone?

being able to go in at 11pm and still getting one is wishful thinking...
no one knows at this point how many iphones will be available tomorrow.
if its 1 million + (please!!!) then maybe yes...
but 500,000 or less.... i wont be too easy.

For me, i need to get it asap. This is only because my Verizon contract expired the beginning of June and I only have 30 days to port my number over the AT&T...so to ensure i get one on launch to port it, i am probably going to get in line by 10 AM tomorrow.

Does anyone know how many phones AT&T and other cell phone companies keep in stock on a regular basis (minus iPhone), I would assume that it would be more than we'd expect, such as maybe 100+ of certian models such as the V3 and freebie phones.

Besides that question, IMO the supply of iPhones will be sufficient to meet the needs for demand. 300,00, if that is the number, will likely be sold quickly, surely within the first week, but I suspect that Apple has their factories at their highest capacity to keep the iPhones coming.

I do not see a Wii like scarcity in the market with the iPhone b/c
1. The Wii requires no contract.
2. The Wii can be played from very young to very old. unlike the iPhone
3. Most iPhone users, while likely to have a large diversity in ages, will most likely leave out 18 and under due to the lack of credit history (unless mommy and daddy are very very nice)
4. Have we forgotten that the iPhone costs as much as the PS3? Tons of people were crying b/c the PS3 cost so much, but the iPhone is in the similar price range and surely, the most expensive phone many new users will have ever bought (except those who have owned mobiles since their inception like my father's huge brick that cost a fortune).

Because of these, even though I think that the iPhone will sell out in many places on iDay, but eventually (sometime in July) a steady stream will meet the and even exceed demand. Also many will be turned off by the initial negatives that plague any new gadget which I'm sure we'll see here in the coming month.

It was true for me at least, I got there at 4:00pm and got the iPhone, when I left it was 7:00 and there was still a line and people getting in line, pretty much everyone that came got one

I got to Tice's Corner in NJ at 7:30pm and walked out with two 8 GB iPhones in no time. AT&T stores around me did sell out quickly though.

I got to mine at 4:00 and was around number 150 in line, but I think they had more than 500 at the one I went to.

dont worry apple made far more iPhones than Zuunes.

lol, I won't be surprised if Apple will sell more iPhones in the next than the amount of Zunes produced (not sold just made!). So since I'm 1/2 a day ahead, I log back on and see madness of posts. Online at the Apple store iPhone supply link almost all stores are green. And the iPhone is still available at Apple Store and likely will forever. Did stores get sold out and people get stiffed or did most who wanted an iPhone get one? Was the wait really necessary?

I got to the Apple Store in Tampa at 5:30PM and got one and was out the door 30 minutes later. Bearing, I walked to the front of the line and weaseled my way in. :)
