That's probably the price with the E5-1603 which is a 2.8Ghz 4-core no HT CPU. HP Z series are also competing with their consumer and non-workstation business systems too, so can't do the masssive premium Apple do with the Mac Pro on single CPU systems.

Which would be a heck of an upgrade/price reduction against the current comparable Z400 series. For $999, you have W3503 dual core 2.4 GHz, or for $1329 you have the W3520 quad core 2.66 GHz. And for a lot of scientific programs anyway, HT is a huge drag and slows the program down by almost 50% in my experience. So, that could be a nice "little" machine.

The 800 series is also getting a nice little price cut/performance boost. With the bottom starting at $2299, $200 dollars under the price of the machine with a E5620 at 2.4 GHz. I'm guessing the new machine will use E5-2620 6 core at 2.0 GHz, since that seems to be the comparable processor price-wise in the new E5 series. But even the 2609 will out perform the E5620.

It will be interesting to see what the price points are for their dual processor systems are though, since Apple is usually a little more competitive in those.

That is actually an increase for HP. If you look now, the current Z400's with Xeon 3500's start at $999.

The way the get down to $999 is by using a W3503 (2.40 GHz, 4 MB cache, 1066 MHz memory) in addition to chopping down the case, internal drive sleds, power supply, etc.

If someone wanted the cheapest container strapped around a Xeon/'i7 Extreme' there has always been other options. The Z620 and Z820 boxes are a closer compare to what the Mac Pro is. Although even the Z820 is coming in at $2,299. Apple needs to get closer to the $2000 border to compete long term. Giving the iMacs a $400 price buffer is going to kill off the Mac Pro over time.

They are on newegg already

so now that the chips are released, now what... c'mon Apple, its even a Tuesday!! I highly doubt that a Mac Pro update will be over shadow an iPad 3/HD release...

Apple Should be clear about the future of the line...
Having ALL Apple product (from the touch all the way to the Mac Pro) I must say that the Mac Pro is the most awesome product i ever own...
and having to wait/question the futur of that line hurt me physically inside...

C'on Apple release the damn thing!!!Please:p

Well, the AMD HD7800 series soft launched ( Anandtech's review of 7870/7850 ) . Those won't be available till later in the month. Although, it seriously would not hurt Apple to make an exception and pre-launch the Mac Pro for pre-order. I doubt the number of "have to buy right now" orders would drop much lower than they already are at this point of tardiness. Also the FUD swirling around the Mac Pro right now is pretty high. There is very little to be gained by waiting a couple of weeks in this specific context.

A HD7850 (a bit faster than old 5870 but lower power requirements ) and a HD7950 (faster still but not run quite as hot as a 7970) might be a line up for a new Mac Pro. Going with a video card line up of 7700 series card on the low end and 7900 series card on the high end doesn't make alot of sense for a $2,499+ box.
A 7850 would be a better value justification for the price point and a smaller price gap to any 7900 option.

P.S. there are also stories of other vendors having problems getting things shipped out of China because Apple has bought up almost all of the air frieght slots for next couple of weeks. Again pre-orders don't have to be shipped right away but if they are dogmatically adhering to "has to ship exactly when put it in store" there actually is a logistical problem driven by iPad3.

I really want to like AMD's video card selection but dropping that much for a fragmented and poorly supported driver environment in Windows is just encouraging them.

Like one of the comments on the review states.... just wait 2-3 months for the software to catch up before buying.

In some sense, it is a game they are playing with Nvidia to get their whole line out first before Nvidia can do anything. If they maximize their TMSC production wafer orders right now, that is just that many more wafers Nvidia can't get to. That TMSC can't keep up with all 3 AMD series seems indicative that they are bottle-necked at this point (between AMD and other customers with queue slots).

Once the hardware is deployed, they can update the drivers later.

But it does question whether the Mac drivers ( which usually lag behind the Windows ones) are in much better shape.

In some cases I have encountered it is a year or never. They will resolve or hotfix an issue only to regress in a later driver release.

I love AMD but their video cards required a level of masochism I do not aspire to.

Starting to get really tight on my 'buy a new MP or upgrade current MP' plan...

March 31st my MP runs out of warranty. Two weeks before then I will be ordering all the bits required to put a 3.33GHz hex and a 6870 in it so I make sure it still runs before the warranty runs out.

All I need is the ability for the MP2012 to be ordered, nothing more, nothing less. :(

The E5-1650 is a little beast of a CPU.

At this point, I think many would say waiting for a new Mac Pro is also a level of masochism they don't enjoy either. Even if Nvidia's PCI-e 3.0 , 28nm cards meet Apple's price & power envelope requirements for the new Mac Pro that would mean an even longer wait (April/May ).

HP is smart enough to understand that powerful workstations need to exist:

http://www.hp.com/united-states/cam...es.html?jumpid=ex_r11260_go_z820#.T1ade5gXV8I

I might get this next month, my wait (600 days or whatever) is over.

Apple has really lost all my respect and admiration. I feel that they have become a bit too arrogant and not saying a word about the Mac Pro for the last 2 years is disgusting..this might be my last post on this forum. Even if the Mac Pro get's released tomorrow, I don't like being treated like this.

Good luck to all!

P.S. That workstation can have up to 512 Gb of RAM!!

Huh? They've never ever said a word about future hardware. It's been that way for years and years. Intel, G5, G4, G3... Why expect something different now?

And the new Xeon just came out today.

HP didn't even release their systems today. Read your own link...

If the latter was only true.

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/201...w-Mac-Pro-With-Up-to-12-Processing-Cores.html

Go check HP's press release archive for 2011 for "super new workstations". There was a mobile one, but no box with slots.

Apple doesn't offer the range of "box with slots" workstations that HP, Dell, etc. do. However, that hasn't been true for at least a decade (if not more). Not sure how they are silent about what their offering constraints were over that time period. Actions speak much louder than words.

P.S. That workstation can have up to 512 Gb of RAM!!

32GB DIMMs (in 16 slots) . That's going to cost more than a Mac Pro. ;)

4K monitors are currently tens of thousands of dollars. I can't imagine an Apple one coming any time soon.

apple came out with first 30 inch monitor at reasonable price, i hope they can do the same for the next 4k monitor.

----------

Since when has the Mac Pro ever shipped with a monitor? That is purchased separately. If I'm assuming correctly, you're thinking of the rumored "Retina" Macs; theses aren't expected until later this year, and I believe we'll only see them on laptops at first. Apple is a very secretive company, and we all wish as much as you do to know what they're thinking.

no i am not talking of retina display, but 4k for mac pro, today is a sad day, a tiny ipad 3 have more resolution than their biggest 27 inch monitor. 4k must be a reality soon.

No MacPro!?

Well i guess patience is a virtue, soon enough i hope soon enough they will release the new mac pro now that the new iPad has be revealed...

I'm still waiting for the new mac pro, my imac isnt just as quick as I need it to be and 4 cores is really marginal for the stuff i have to do.
