Little bit of a bug to report, but could be a one-timer. I set my Ultra to go into low power mode when starting a workout. When the workout ends, low power mode goes off. I do this more as a reminder to end a workout. I have found my strength training workout running behind the scenes all day in the past and low power mode kills the always on display so the black screen works as a reminder for me to kill the workout.

Today my watch got stuck in low power mode even after I ended the workout. It would not let me out of it in the control panel. A soft power off didn't work and it took a hard power down to give me the ability to shut it off. On both restarts, it booted up in pow power mode.
I have made an automation in the shortcuts app so when starting my run, it turns on always on display. When finishing the run it turns it off. Almost never works

Yeah, I find the "End Workout?" prompt is only triggered by getting into my car after the gym and bluetooth connects. The problem is I turn off bluetooth (and Wifi) on my phone before working out as this makes a smooth connection of my Air Pod Pros directly to my watch. I leave the phone behind in the locker. Been doing this for years as it can be a bitch getting the phone off the Air Pods and getting the watch to stream directly to the APP's. I usually forget to turn BT back on on the phone, so hence, the workout runs all day and kills my battery. Having the Always On Display triggered to be off when a workout is launched reminds me to end the workout when I look at my watch and the display is off.

Have you tried attaching the shortcut to a Fitness Focus mode?

Good idea - have set up a Fitness Focus mode recently for the first time, just to limit the people that can call and text to my daughter and wife and block all other notifications.

Will try it out.
Yes, please do and report. Have some ideas to link shortcuts to Fitness Focus mode too but was too lazy to try.
The concept of "Focus Filters" should allow to change system settings like you want to do. But it is very limited now.

I am using Fitness Focus mode for the same exact reason as you do and I am really happy how it works. Especially as it also covers 3rd party sports apps like Workoutdoors.

The only issue I have is that my Mac only catches about 50% of the Focus change events so it often stays in Fitness Focus mode, though all other devices left it.

I am going to set my fitness focus as well… so it can turn on and block out my work emails and notifications during my Fitness+ stacks as well.

Perfectly all my devices recognize when I set a focus on my Apple Watch or my iPhone. Even my old iPhone 7 mirrors it as well.

Anyone have issues with interval tracking? This morning I did 6x400 interval run and then when i checked my interval splits, it only showed my warmup, cooldown, and only 1 400m time

Mine shows up right. I have warm up, 4 x 400m 3 x recovery and cool down.

What beta are you on for the watch?
I was on the one before the latest. It worked on watch but my workout was missing split times on fitness app on iPhone

Made a new shortcut tied to the Focus mode and from my very non-scientific testing here, it seems to a bit hit or miss. Like it sometimes just doesn't do it and other times work perfect - kind of odd.

This latest beta has been horrible for battery life. Having to charge my Ultra 1 daily now.

Yep. Still bad for me on my S9 41mm. I can still last the day but its now ending up with 20% or less. Usually battery issues were always fixed in the next build but this has been on going for me since Beta 2 (skipped 1)

S9 45mm here beta 7 much improved, daily one hour workouts mostly cycling and wearing watch overnight asleep 💤 using vitals 11pm 100% charge 23 hours later i’m at 65-69% most days since beta 7 previous betas were awful in terms of battery performance. i also use duffy for step count
complication no issues there or experienced. note carrot weather complications i found to be main cause of battery drain on Os11 betas i uninstalled it from watch whether that’s a coincidence i don’t know but beta 7 for me much improved

Same my battery remains at 80-85% after a night of sleep tracking with the battery full before I go to bed. It’s haven’t been an issue with my Apple Watch Series 6 since this update, and I am able to do a workout in the morning after breakfast 🥞 and chores without needing to charge it up beforehand.

I even did not need to pull out my Apple Watch charger during my long day at work yesterday, it endured over nine hours.

That’s terrible news. I’m sorry to hear that! Try doing low power mode if you sleep track, and if you do not need heart rate and blood oxygen measurements overnight.

I’m on 18.1 for iOS and the latest Watch beta. Battery has been more than fine on both devices.
Same here for the Apple Watch Series 6 I am testing on, but with my iPhone battery drain is quite fast in beta 7 if I use it long term.

Beta 6 was bad for my Ultra 1 with random battery drains that were temporarily fixed by a reboot.
Beta 7 is much much better, battery life seems to be similar or just below what I used to get with watchOS 10. Around 50% usage every 24 hours with no workouts, and sleep tracking. With workouts, it's more like 60-65% usage within 24 hours.

Beta 6 was a bit draining for me too, especially as I went hiking with it, esim activated. One 24+ km hike made it run out of power at about 22-23 km. It was going in and out of cellular coverage, I guess that was a factor too. The hiking data up to the point it shut down was available after charging.

Usually when travelling in areas with terrible cell coverage, my iPhone uses a ton of battery to keep jumping on and off the LTE signals - If the watch has been doing the same it might be the issue

LTE connectivity (if you don't bring your phone and use it) can drain a lot if network conditions are poor.
Another important factor is sun exposition. In very bright conditions, watchOS pushes luminosity to keep the watch readable, and it also eats a lot.
