I have a 2020 12.9” iPad Pro. Apple has always limited the usability of the iPad’s software, not adding features that should’ve been added long ago. There’s no more excuses. It’s 2022 and we still don’t have: proper external monitor support, proper multitasking with more windows, full pro apps (not the half assed apps we always get on the App Store and first party apps like iMovie, real apps like Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Lightroom Classic, real Photoshop, Pixelmator Pro, Xcode, Compressor, you get the idea), a weather app, a calculator app, optimized battery charging, external camera support, proper file management (like being able to format, fix or otherwise edit external drives, transferring files at the full capable speed USB-C and Thunderbolt on newer iPads should deliver, etc) and a whole bunch of other stuff the iPad needs. I’m not asking to put macOS on the iPad, just fix the software. I got my hopes up for iPadOS 15, but that turned out to be not only a massive disappointment, I consider it to be the worst update ever. Apple has clearly said no to merging the Mac and iPad operating systems, and has always advocated for keeping the iPad and Mac separate according to how they wish it to be, and considering that and all those awful lackluster iPadOS updates, I don’t think they will ever release the iPad from its software prison. The iPad is just as expensive as a decent laptop and it’s far more powerful than most laptops in its price range. Just give us the software it deserves. I have a feeling iPadOS 16 will be even worse than 15. In that case, someone needs to file a class action lawsuit against Apple and the iPad (especially the iPad Pro) should be boycotted until Apple overhauls the software (if they ever do, which they probably never will)

Might have more luck if we show massive support for those anti-trust bills ;)

I used to think an iPad was an iPad. Then they asked us, “What is a computer?”, gave it mouse support, gave it a keyboard and mouse case, gave it 8 to 16 gb of RAM, gave it, a good amount of storage too.

Based off what they have done with iPadOS I have no idea what they intend for us to do with the iPad.

Apple is guilty of making a really good iPad and asking consumers to figure out for themselves what they need. Apparently, they should stick to telling consumers what they need. Based off these forums, it’s evident that consumers can’t handle such tough questions.

I think people who don't know what to do with an iPad would tend to not buy one, especially at those prices.

I would like to start a class action suit against Chrysler for my PT not being an Aston Martin DB11. It’s absurd that they didn’t offer a V12. It is also not the color I wanted even though it’s the color I bought.

If you really think you can take someone to court for not developing a product in the direction you want……..oh boy. The iPad you bought delivers exactly what I’d did when you bought it.

Today I have a better tool than yesterday but somehow have forgotten what to do with it because of better specs? Interesting take

I am the first to criticize iPadOS for its limitations and have made countless examples in other threads, and even supported the idea of a MacOS option added to iPad, despite all the iPad purists claiming iPadOS is great as it is, but I am also the first to say that Apple has any right to do whatever they want with their products, so a class action makes absolutely no sense. Where a class action should be filed is for the bright spots that are plaguing some models of iPads, something nobody signed for and for which Apple is doing nothing.....

Not everyone is from the great US of A you know
Really? Being from Germany I would have never guessed…
But that wasn’t my point.
I just made you aware that maybe you payed almost $2k, but not in the currency that the other person probably was referring to.
For all I know you could pay 5k for a standard iPad Pro right now.
5k Rubels. But that’s not the point.

This is the most ridiculous thread I’ve seen in a while. There’s nothing legally wrong with iPadOS, it’s exactly as they marketed it when you bought your iPad. You got what you paid for, apple did nothing wrong that will give you the right to a compensation of any kind.

I am also not a fan of iPadOS, we can hope and ask again and again for certain features, but a class action will 100% fail

If you don’t like the iPad…don’t get one. If you bought one and don’t like…bring it back.

Similar sentiment with the old iPhone 4. Steve called a press conference and the whole world felt stupid.

Tech, like most things, is evolutionary. Nothing is perfect. I use Macs and PCs. I have iPads and laptops and iPods. Things aren’t perfect. However I cannot understate the importance each of these devices has in my workplace. If something doesn’t work for you, find something else that does. You can’t force a company to invent something or to push innovation towards your goal.

Another great Steve moment is when, in the late 90s he addressed some of his decisions to kill certain products. Bottom line is that Apple needs to innovate in a way that allows them to sell billions in products. Some people will be unhappy and some mistakes will be made… but at least the decisions are made and the ball is moving forward.

Heck, if that were a thing, Microsoft would be sued all the time. Basically, it is what they say it is, so it’s not like you didn’t get something you thought you might. So, good luck with that

Why did you ever expect a tablet to be a full blown computer replacement? I for one don't, it's a handy tool that serves as an extension of a laptop/desktop.
True, and with that thin form factor and light weight it’s amazing that thermal limits aren’t severe and battery life isn’t in minutes. I guess we will never see alder lake in tablets

It’s always been a glorified iPhone to most people. I use mine for media consumption when I’m not on my iPhone. It’s great for surfing on the sofa.
You are right, I always see people holding them to their ear and talking. I never see people use them to do light editing of photos and videos, create presentations or spreadsheets or documents, review pdfs.

Oh wait, I have that backwards, don’t I?

I don't believe there is a case for the lawsuit you wish to bring about. However, I can agree that the iPad OS should allow for more... In the meanwhile, you can use it as an extension of your Apple computer and move it about the house if your are set up properly. This means you get your Mac's screen on your iPad and all the Mac processing power and apps. It is not the same of course but not a bad interim item. I don't like the OS for iPad as I think there is room for improvement but I cannot say it is bad either as it serves that type of technology reasonably well. As for apps, perhaps as we move into all M1 chips, things will change or if people say - lets get a Samsung tablet, Galaxy phone and Dell computer.
Yah nothing ever went wrong with a Samsung, galaxy or Dell. LOL. My Samsung pet peeve, I can’t update drivers on a monitor cause it’s windows only, pathetic samsung

You don’t have it backwards. I only see people using them to babysit their kids. YMMV

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and I used to share your frustration. But it appears that you are putting all of the blame on Apple. What responsibility do you have? What in Apple's history with the iPad gave you reason to be hopeful for iPadOS 15?

You have a 2020 12.9 iPad Pro. If you bought it in 2020, then you should have seen how little Apple did to take advantage of the larger iPad over the 5 years since the 1st gen 12.9 Pro was released.

One should never buy a technology product based on the possibilities for the future, but on what it can do right now. I learned that lesson long ago... that resulted in a greater contentment with my devices and saving a ton of money in the process.

The best, and most effective class action that consumers can take is to... not buy the product. But that requires a level of self-control that most don't have.

I hope that now that you've gotten to this point, you can explore alternatives that might suite your needs and wants better. They're out there... you just have to look. :) If you're interested in that, we have had many fruitful discussion in the "Alternative to iOS" sub-forum... drop by and join in.

As someone who’s owned almost every Apple device in the ecosystem I decided a few months back to just not buy things I felt weren’t finished products. I got rid of all my current gen iPads, Watch, HomePods, MBA, AirPods, etc. so the only thing I have is my iPhone 13 PM and 24” iMac which if I had my way would be gone as well.

Having less devices has actually made my life more productive because the Apple ecosystem, while better than most, is still Siri level dumb. iMessages or Mail can’t even sync properly between various devices yet Universal Control works great for a beta???

So Apple doesn’t get my money and I learned an expensive but valuable lesson about consumer manipulation from corporate and YouTube tech reviews.
Facts I’m a just a a MacBook Air then a Pro later on && that’s it. A Phone & a Mac.

Cause my MacBook Pro is from 2012 and I don’t have the money and resources to buy a whole new MacBook Pro yet, so I’m using my iPad Pro as a stopgap for now, and also as a natural note taking and drawing device with some photo editing and web browsing mixed in
Trade both of them in. Save up. Start a side hustle manifest be positive & get that New MacBook Pro that you deserve brother. Never say what you can’t afford find a way

I feel like the iPad should have more flexible software. Other tablets, which all of them are no where near as powerful as an iPad Pro, even the 2018 iPad Pro is far more powerful than the fastest Android tablet, have better multitasking and more robust software
Feelings aren’t facts and unless Apple has misrepresented itself in advertising and material statements by officers of the company saying the iPad and iPadOS can do something that it actually can’t, you will be laughed out of an attorney’s office inside of 30 seconds.

The problem with your argument is that the limitations are in your use case. My iPad Pro 12.9 and Magic Keyboard is in fact a laptop replacement. iPadOS, while still needs some work, offers everything I need in a computer. If I needed more, I would use a Mac. I have an M1 MacBook Air but it gets very little use, so it will likely be given to my wife as her photo editing tool along with her iPad Pro.
