Im debating getting a mini just for the heck of it to keep in my vehicle out on the road, i prefer the regular size iphone 8 but yeah the display is somewhat small so I would use the ipad mini to look things up on the net because I refuse to buy another huge phone

If you’re in a sunny/hot region, I wouldn’t leave the mini in the car. It’ll kill the battery.

In my experience, the iPad mini is great as a GPS. Of course you have to get the cellular version.

Leaving a iPad in the car expecilly if it is visable and even if the car is locked is a invitation for it to be stolen. Even if it is in your own drive way I’ve hard of cars getting broken in to.

I commute every day so it comes inside the office with me, but i often make reservations and check traffic conditions on my phone but the ipad would be easier

Since being underwhelmed with the latest iPhones and switching away from iOS specific apps to apps that are available on Android too, I’m now pondering whether if I get tired of waiting for a mini with pencil support I might not try a Samsung Note 9. No way would I normally consider buying a large phone, but a large phone that actually has a useful feature (a stylus) might be worth it. Of course I’d have to get busy lengthening my phone pocket in all my jeans if I did.

I think their a lot of pended up demand for a new iPad Mini! I certain would buy a new one with everything, 512GB, LTE and silver color(thinking it will look like the Xs iPhones).

I’m in favor of a new Mini. I can’t rationalize buying a Mini 4 that is 3 year old tech since product support will most likely end in a couple years. And most especially not at the price Apple seems to think the Mini 4 is worth.

I can and have used a 2017 9.7” iPad for reading and such that I used to do on my very old Mini, but it just is a little too big imo.

Absolutely true. Ipad mini needs a more powerful sibling and a better screen.
It's a long standing demand. Dunno why apple doesnt make one

I really want an updated iPad mini. I have the 12.9 iPad, and finding it too big and not really the productivity device I thought it could be. Was playing with the mini in the Apple store and I really dig the smaller size. Great for reading books, watching videos and surprisingly I found it decent for reading comics.

Every ipad i’ve owned since the first ipad back in 2010has been an ipad mini. As a traveller, i found it the perfect size. I only wish Apple would update it with pencil support since i love to draw. But things don’t look good for the ipad mini. The last update was 3 yrs ago. I am waiting for the next ipad pros to be announced. If the ipad mini is truly discontinued, i will nab the new 11” ipad pro with slimmer bezels & face ID next month.

I guess Apple feels the iphone xs max is the new ipad mini.

Get the ipad mini 4th gen. It's still excellent device to consider. See the video above even a 2nd gen works so well with ios12

Personally i would advise against this. At least for me it’s not a good investment. But then i use my ipads for more than just surfing the web. However, the ipad mini i still have is annoyingly slow and buggy. True, it’s 5 yrs old....but The ipad mini 4 is already 3 yrs old. And i just feel you’d be limiting yourself with such a purchase. I just don’t know if it’d be worth it. Just get the 9.7” 2018 ipad with pencil support. Yes, it’s bigger than the mini 4, but at least you’ll be getting current tech plus pencil support.

Apple could easily put current tech in the mini and add pencil support....but they don’t. I think this is such a bizarre choice. It’s not like the ipad mini 4 is cheaper than the regular 2018 ipad. It’s not. And you are getting much slower older tech. It really makes zero sense.

That was exactly my thinking when I got a 2018/LTE/128gb iPad this summer. Would have really preferred a Mini, but just couldn't pull the trigger when the 9.7 was only $30 more.

May do the same if the economy iPad gets a redesign to the “X” form. But still hoping Apple has enough money in their company to bring out a new Mini release in October!

The level of interest in a new/updated iPad mini is impressive - I'm in the same camp - but truth be told with literally zero rumors or leaks in the past 2 years (please prove me wrong), the chances of the iPad mini making a product appearance (even if just one sentence as a refresh) at a keynote are practically zero.

Apple needs to have a good reason to try to update or redesign the iPad mini. Right now their focus is two-pronged - on the "cheap" / education-focused iPad market and the "pro" iPad market, neither of which have room for a mini-sized device.

Honestly I don't think anything's going to happen, it's better not to get your hopes up. Weirdly I think an OLED iPad is actually more likely than an iPad mini at this point - Apple can easily get away with even higher prices, and further differentiate themselves in the "premium" tablet segment.

Do you have a link or other reference that shows the Tab S 8" sales matching and/or exceeding the current outdated iPad mini's sales? I'd be very interested to see that.

I'm so confident that Apple won't be releasing an iPad Mini with pencil support that I went out and bought a Note 9 that I'll run on a data only sim. I'd love to be wrong as I would have preferred a Mini but my main need was for something notebook size to sketch on.

Apple seem intent on killing off all of their smallest devices, recently being the SE.

I read a lot and that has been the primary use of my older iPad Mini. That’s because I get books from various sources, iBooks being one of them. My mini won’t go beyond iOS 9.x and the latest version of Scribd just crashes on it and that’s my current, primary reader app.

As to Samsung’s S8, it is even older in OS level and design than is the latest Mini 4 at about the same price. I don’t believe there’s any significant interest in it at all.

I wanted to add my support for an updated iPad mini!

I am currently using a mini 2, and love the size, as it can be used for truly productive purposes. It is also the best size for gaming as it is so easy to hold.

I would welcome any update from simply inserting an A10 processor all the way to iPad mini Pro with pencil support and 4 gig of ram.

Apple, please bring us a new product in this category!
