As much as I love the displays and cameras of Samsung devices, the software kills the experience for me. I have to have stock Android or something extremely close to it, TouchWiz is still too bloated for my tastes. Now if they made an S7+ Google Play Edition, I'd be tempted
Not only that, but even if Touchwiz is minimal, I hate that the i/o announced software product is still a 9-12 months away for Samsung users.

I did read somewhere that Samsung probably won't go for much of design change for the s7 but are going to work
more on there software. It wouldn't surprise me if sammy bought back removable sd though. Experia z5 ultra could be worth a look if it comes in March the main event of the years gonna be the ip7. But I'm watching Sony with great interest....

Really looking forward to seeing the next HTC phone. After this years flop, they're most likely gonna go for a newish design.

The G5 looks reasonably good. It's got what you'd expect: Snapdragon 820, 1440p display, presumably 4GB RAM, etc, etc. But I don't understand where they're going with the biometrics. I mean, a fingerprint scanner was one of the main deciding factors for me on my newest phone, and I'm keen to see iris scanners popping up in mainstream phones, but having both is pointless.
From this phone I'm expecting a small footprint, front-facing speakers, retaining of removable battery, and maybe a build-to-order system like Moto Maker. Full metal build seems like a dumb idea for LG as removable battery was a big selling point in the G4.

Android Central has it engrained in me that LG software is generally bad. I see no reason to change my feelings on that.

I bought my girlfriend the V10 because she requested it...the software is really a mess...............so bloated to the point that touchwiz feels like iOS in comparison.

After spending a frustrating 2 hours on Boxing Day trying to set up my Aunts new Samsung S6, I really can't see myself leaving the iPhone any time soon. It was enough to reassure me I am happy with iOS. Nice screen, nice product overall, but the interface and ease of set up left me wanting the throw it out of the window. I was hoping I would be tempted and have a little more choice at my upgrade this year. It'll be the iPhone 7 only for me realistically.

Setup of my Sony looks more or less like that:
– log in to Google account
– leave it for an hour or two to do all system updates and download all the apps
– restore icon layout and all customisations but widgets from Nova Launcher
– add widgets manually (I've got four widgets, so this takes 10 minutes)
– enjoy

What did you find so difficult?
Setting her email up mainly. The phone resetting itself several times didn't help either. The rest is just personal preference plus I haven't used Android for a couple of years now. The message app is ugly on TouchWiz and I found the settings menu to have far too many options to the point it's confusing for me. I owned an S3 back in 2012 and it reminded me why I originally dumped it. The overall experience just didn't strike me as appealing to be honest. Just my personal observations and opinions though. :)

Go to the theme store store and download the free material theme. It really helps a lot with the look of touchwiz and all the included apps, including the messages app.

Still very much looking forward to the S7 and its variants. The rumor mill is really churning now. Excitement is building.

iPhone 7 will also be exciting when it comes around because it's redesign year -- there's potential to finally add some welcomed features.

Nexus 2016 -- Google finally knows how to do a Nexus right. It'll be very interesting to see where they go from here.

Should be interesting to see how Huawei continues to penetrate the US market, too....

Thankfully I've done my bit on that phone now and live far enough away to avoid being her technical support. She's not the sort of person to think about researching work-arounds either so will likely use the stock features and themes.

I really hope 2016 is the year all/most OEMs produce two variations of their flagship device; one small around the 5" size screen area, and one large around the 5.5-5.9" area.

A lot of OEMs are or have been doing that already. Sony, Samsung, Apple, Google Nexus, HTC. It's time for everyone to do the same.

Imagine for 2016:

-Moto X and Moto XL
-HTC One MX (M10), and MXL (or M10 Plus)
-Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge (or S7 Plus)
-Sony Xperia Z6, Z6 Compact, Z6 Plus (or Premium)
-LG G5 and G5 Plus
-Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and maybe a 6C or 7C for the 4.7" lovers.
-Google Nexus 5P, 6P (yes, the 5" version needs to be built premium, too, in 2016).

That's how the roadmap should look. Same for the smaller OEMs like Huawei, OnePlus, etc.

Woah, Sony... http://www.phonearena.com/news/Snapdragon-650-powered-Sony-Xperia-Z6-Lite-coming-next-year_id77017

... we heard that Sony might be getting ready to release no less than five different Xperia Z6 smartphones: a 4-inch Xperia Z6 Mini, a 4.6-inch Xperia Z6 Compact, a 5.2-inch Xperia Z6, a 5.8-inch Xperia Z6 Plus, and a 6.4-inch Xperia Z6 Ultra. Now, we're hearing that an Xperia Z6 Lite may also be in the making.
If there's one time Sony might be right in jumping to a new product line up so soon it could be for the Z6 series.

After all the SD810 issues I chanced it with the Z5c. Lasted barely three days before the throttling and heat made me sell it. That and the sluggish camera being nowhere near as good as DX0 would have you believe.

Agghh the Sony Z6 apocalypse ;)

Sony that's how you kill your entire product range, by diluting it so much that it causes confusion and apathy in the end user. This could be a very dangerous and bad move for there already very struggling mobile division.

Finally the 6.4-inch phone the world's been waiting for

They really are throwing as much muck and seeing what sticks.
