I ordered a new 27" iMac this weekend and I can't wait until it gets here. It's replacing an early 2009 Mac Mini that I barely use anymore because it's slow. I had a late 2006 iMac up until about 2009 but the graphics card and/or motherboard failed. I also have a 2017 12" Macbook but I miss having a powerful desktop computer.

Replacing my 2012 Mac Pro hex core that I now use mainly for my photography as I got tired of waiting for Apple to announce the new Mac Pro, which I got to believe it will be way north of $3,500, plus most likely $1,250 and up for the monitor. Biggest problem with my Mac Pro was backups, transfers and XQD and SD USH-II card reading, took sooo long with the pci-e USB3 card I had (on my 2nd). Plus in the summer months the Mac Pro generates a lot of heat. (I live in the desert where it is 100F plus for 4 months straight.)

Just ordered the 27” iMac 2019 with 512GB SSD and 6 core I5 3.7, 580X and base ram with the Crucial 32GB upgrade kit. Adorama had a $100 off discount, so $2299 plus $180 for the ram. It all shipped today. For LR and PS the I5 should be more than adequate, as I don’t do video, and it will run cooler than the I9 option.

Internal 512 GB blade will hold system plus my Lightroom cache files, LR is pretty fast this way on my Mac Pro and photo files load very fast, actual files will be on 8TB RAID USB 3.1 C external Mobius using 2x 4tb HGST enterprise drives coming out of the Mac Pro. Backup 8TB in older Oyen Digital RAID box with same drives and backup system on external 500GB SSD.

If the new Mac Pro does turn out to be a truly upgradable box under $3000, I may get one later this year and give the new 2019 iMac to my wife. If not, I am sure this iMac will be just fine for what I do for years to come.

The prices in Canada are killing me... $3948 (with Apple Care) for the i5 (9th gen), 512SSD , 8GB ram and Vega 48...

This is the system I’d love to get (no need for i9 chip) but I can’t justify $4K ... and my wife would kill me if I hit order.

Apple you’re painfully pricing me out!
:(
Use the student pricing. FYI. They don’t check. It’s 700 cheaper.

Just received today an iMac 27":
  • i9
  • 8GB RAM — upgraded with Crucial 2 x 16GB bought separately, 40GB RAM in total
  • Radeon Pro Vega 48
  • 1TB SSD

I also got 10% discount for teachers, which gives in total 16181 PLN (Polish currency) which is roughly 4220 USD (with taxes).

It's great!

Same spec here (cenowo tak samo :) ). Got it yesterday.
What a beast!

Had a Mid 2011 27inch iMac that Apple stop updating the OS a couple years back. Last month purchased a new 2019 27 inch iMac. I love it. Plenty faster than the 2011 model to say the least. Used Apple's Military Veterans Discount Web link to purchase off my iPhone right at the Apple store.

Retina 5K Display
3.0GHz 6-Core
Processor with Turbo
Boost up to 4.1 GHz
1TB Storage
Fusion Drive

Just ordered this. Arriving 22nd-24th of May! Will replace PC that I'm just too tired of. Especially Windows.

Will be used for mostly for web browsing, backend development, light gaming, hobby music production and some light retouching of my photos. No need for higher CPU nor higher GPU so this is perfect! :)

Will upgrade RAM myself with either 16 GB or 32 GB depending on how much I feel that I need.

Did opt for 512 GB SSD though which I think will be great for peace of mind and resale value since 256 GB is too small for some!

I just ordered the 21" Imac w/ 3.2 Ghz i7 processor and 512GB SSD drive. I left the memory at 8GB Ram and having second thoughts, but it will probably work fine. I was being a tight wad and didn't want to pay another $180.

Just ordered the new 27" iMac and cannot wait to start playing around on it! I only wish that we had the option to choose between silver and space grey. This will be replacing my 2009 MBP that I've been trying to keep alive with SSDs and RAM upgrades while I held out for a new MBP replacement, however the current iterations seems to be riddled with more issues than I'm comfortable with, according to that side of the forum.

Anyways, here are the specs:
  • i9
  • 8GB RAM (will upgrade later on)
  • Radeon 580x
  • 512GB SSD
  • Magic Trackpad 2

iMac 27-inch Retina 5k 3.6GHz 8-core (Early 2019)
3.6GHz 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i9 processorTurbo Boost up to 5.0GHz
8GB (2x4GB Apple) memory
512GB SSD storage
Radeon Pro Vega 48 with 8GB HBM2 memory
Apple Magic Mouse 2, Magic Keyboard
APPLECARE+ FOR IMAC AUTOENROLL

This is from Expercom with ~$200 savings over the Apple store directly.

If you got one, post which 2019 iMac config you ordered!

I ordered the following config and saved some money on RAM since it's user upgradable:
  • 27" 5K
  • 3.6GHz i9 8-core
  • 8GB RAM
  • Vega 48
  • 2TB SSD
Why did I go with this config?

I didn't like that the i5 was the second best option, had the same 95W TDP, and had no hyper threading. I figure this processor will last me a very long time, unless Apple blows everything out of the water with their in-house chips in a couple years. Either way it's already overkill in 2019 for my needs. I'd have probably gone with a lower priced 6-core i7 if it was available.

I'll be ordering two 16GB RAM modules and match the pairs with the two 4GB modules that come with it so I can get the full bandwidth at 40GB of RAM total. Looks like it will set me back about $210-230. Then in a few years I'll be able to upgrade to 64GB if I want by replacing the 4GB modules with new 16GB modules and they'll likely be much cheaper.

I went with the Vega 48 because I want to do some occasional gaming in Windows using Bootcamp. I'm betting the performance should be near the GTX 1070/1660 for gaming, but a good amount higher for general computing since it's more of a workstation chip. I'm mostly a console gamer but wanted to play a few games on PC with a friend. I plan on trying 1440p resolution at moderately high settings for most games and think it should be able to handle that for everything but the most demanding.

I decided to go with the 2TB SSD because I am tired of always running out of space with 512GB on my MBP. Sure it will be connected to external hard drives, but the SSD is much faster, even than my Samsung T5 external SSDs, and lightyears faster than my HDDs. I want to be able to partition a good amount for Windows and a smallish Steam library, while also having room for local sync for iCloud and Dropbox files, which I don't like keeping on an external since they sometimes go to sleep and don't stay updated.

Out of everything I maxed out, which is most everything, the 2TB SSD was the hardest choice. I wish there was more of a 1.5TB option, lol. Oh well. My budget was $4000 and I stayed under that because I work in higher education and got the discounts (it was around $3800). I also opted for the numeric keypad option since it's wireless now. My goal was to spec something that is more advanced than what I need today that would last me 5-7 years, and I think I have done that. I also opted for the 18 month 0% financing as I am very responsible with credit so the cost is spread out over time and I can leave that money invested. I'm excited for it to arrive!

I just ordered a new iMac.
27-inch
3.6GHz Intel i9
8GB memory
Vega 48
2TB SSD
Magic Trackpad 2
Magic Keyboard - US English
Accessory Kit
Apple Care

I would like to buy 2 sticks of 32GB each but I can't find it on the Crucial site.
I'll buy OWC if I can't find Crucial sticks but I would prefer Crucial.
Am I missing something on the Crucial site?

Have you tried Amazon for the Crucial? That's where I got mine.

This.
I have ordered from my own email a few times and I have to send in a copy of either a ID Card or a payslip to prove I work in education.
If you order from your education email address they use that as evidence you are in education.

Can always run Sierra in a virtual machine, no?? Parallels is awesome!

Thanks. Never used Parallels or VMs, so I am not sure I still have a Sierra installer. I have Sierra on my 2013 iMac and will have to look on my older back ups to see if I have one.

Just trying to avoid going out of my way to get a 2017 with Sierra (micro center has them).
