Listening to the spare, intriguing and uplifting soundtrack of composer and guitarist Gustavo Santaolalla for the film August in Osage County. Love the low pedal points in some of the pieces, and the haunting melodies where parts of the motifs are sketched again but half left to your memory of what came before. Once in awhile I play tracks from this while I'm reading but it deserves more attention, and getting it tonight. Carter Burwell was originally slotted for scoring duties on this film but was replaced by Santaolalla, who also did soundtracks for Babel and Brokeback Mountain among other films. No clue what the switch was about for August in Osage County, but I like what showed up. Here's one of the pieces: Riding.

Lately it seems like I've been listening to a lot of music from that era! Simon & Garfunkel, Springsteen, Joel. So good!!

Cheers

I just realized something sad ... these days i almost exclusively listen to music using headphones/earbuds.

I might have to remedy that with some kind of speaker/sound system for the apartment. Any recommendations?

Cheers

Car speakers, QC35's or my iMac speakers for me. I've not had a dedicated stereo in the house for years.

Maybe inspired by Camila's Dejarte de Amar album cover (since we're having flash flood warnings yet again today), I turned to their Aléjate de Mí track for a morning distraction. The song is about the age old conflict of wanting someone to stay in your life but knowing the other party should probably run while she can still dodge getting hurt... and so half warning her to flee, half entreating her to take the risk and stay. Think Coldplay with an edge of relaying some down home truths amid the anthemic joys of being in love.

We just saw him in concert a few a weeks ago. Every time he comes the wife wants to see him. If you ever get a chance to see him in person, do. He puts on one hell of a show and man he sounds really good live. Really good!

It's been a very very long time since I've listened to 52nd Street (maybe ~15-20 years!!).... And i think this is my album of the year so far.

I think I saw that Joel is going to be doing a few shows at Madison Square Garden this year, and I've been thinking about making a trip to see him (As if I need an excuse to visit Manhattan anyway). I'm really really hoping to see Springsteen live at some point as well.

Cheers

I think he has a standing contract with Madison, or at least he did. He does a show there like once a month or something. I would love to see him there.

Not a big Springsteen fan, but some of my friends have seen him and say he puts on a really good show too.

Posted this up this morning.

But, as my wife pointed out, I should have posted this in honour of the day.

Sadly, I had just posted The Boys for Canada Day, so they lost out.

In a coffee shop.
Listening to - what else given a separate thread discussing the album in question (and a tour to commemorate the golden jubilee of its release) and several posts - "Days Of Future Passed" by The Moody Blues.
