A seven percent solution?:p

And - a matter of idle inquiry, this - is the uplifting music Klaus Doldinger best, um, appreciated, and er, savoured, with a simple seven per cent solution (which, granted, is a beer one might consider amply robust in the circumstances), resonating in one's system?

The beer was called Jupiler, a Belgian brew. And something, of rare and venerable vintage, a few decades old, which first breathed life in a Scottish distillery, was (subsequently) sampled, sipped, savoured, and swallowed…...

I have yet to listen to Herr Doldinger. :p

Mood music, I would say; mood music where one wishes to access and acknowledge ……a certain mood….

Tonight, the same German friend, (grinning), offered an equally eclectic selection.

This included: "The House of the Rising Sun", (The Animals, a classic from the 1960s); "Come On Eileen", (Dexy's Midnight Runners, one from the 80s, which I loved when it was first released); "Alleluia", "Walk Like An Angel"…….among others…..

Terry Oldfield is the brother of Mike (of 'Tubular Bells' fame) and Sally Oldfield. An accomplished composer and musician in his own right, he composed the soundtrack to the excellent 1980s (BBC TV) series on the Trojan War ('In Search Of The Trojan War', written and fronted by Michael Wood)…..Another wonderful soundtrack which does not appear to be available in a CD format….

Anyway, excellent choice…

Fascinating. I had no idea about that. I don't recall how I stumbled upon his music, but once I found it, I purchased a few albums since I find them completely relaxing.

But, yes, that is, indeed, "the submarine movie". Actually, the TV series is even better . And yes, it is subtitled……..the original movie (and mini-series) was made in German language and comes with sub-titles (in English) for those of us not fluent in the language of Luther and Goethe.

If you like movies, or, war movies, this must rank as one of the best ever made; it is authentic, superbly made, gripping, horrific, thought-provoking, not at all nice, but sheer class. An excellent movie, and mini-series. One I cannot recommend highly enough….

It's on my list in Netflix still to watch and I'll get it soon - maybe even this weekend since it's a holiday for us.

Enjoying a quiet evening listening to Klink, Bossa Nova.

YouTube: video

Sounds as though listening to this it is a perfect way to savour a relaxing cup of coffee.

Bossa Nova is nice, smooth, and yes - deceptively casual yet sophisticated - music. Above all, it implies an urban setting, an easy place where one sips coffee, or an elegant beer, or maybe cocktail…..

Some soundtracks from the great Ennio Morricone: "For A Few Dollars More", "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly", "Once Upon A Time In The West", "A Fistful Of Dynamite", and "The Mission"…..among others.

Ennio Morricone is so much a part of our cultural heritage and his music so well known, and so very good, that one sometime is tempted to take it all for granted…..

L'Estasi dell'Oro is a masterpiece. Just ask Metallica

L'Estasi dell'Oro is a masterpiece. Just ask Metallica

It pains me to say this (since I've been a Metallica fan for a long time), but I think Hammett completely butchers this song.

He just doesn't have enough subtlety in his playing... and his fuzz+wah voicing is getting dull.

There, I said it.

On a happier note, I saw Morricone conduct this live with an orchestra and massive choir - absolutely amazing.
