A gem from 1972. Turn it up....
First saw Take 6 on the Grammys (30 years ago, when the Grammys still kinda mattered) and I initially felt bad for them as they performed right after Manhattan Transfer; within 20 seconds my jaw was on the floor and I was a fan.Listening to various songs by the gospel vocal group Take 6, trying to pick out all the harmonies! Seem to be heavily influenced by Singers Unlimited, actually.
Kinda wish there was like a concise book with all the chords and progressions, but at the same time, it's a lot of fun spending hours in the practice room picking them out!
After the second watch, the "tape" may have been Smurf band-aids, I can't quite tell.... ☺️This just blew my socks off. And Jordan Rudess adding anti-skid tape to his keyboard is next-level badass!
Pete's brother Mike was in a band called "The New Lost City Ramblers". I had a number of their albums from Folkway Records. Never forget how heavy they were, felt like slate instead of vinylThought y'all might like some Pete Seeger:
This video just popped up on the YouTube homepage, so I discovered it completely by accident! But at home I have a box set of 6 LPs of Pete Seeger and a few other folk artists. Plus I have many, many individual folk LPs (really need to get to digitizing that stuff so I can have it up here at my university). My parents raised me on a lot of this music, especially Pete Seeger and The Clancy Brothers. I remember as a little kid sitting there endlessly - for hours - listening to this stuff.
Wonderful to be reminded of these superb folk artists.Thought y'all might like some Pete Seeger:
