Well, when the death of the late, great Sir George Martin was announced today - or, rather, when I read about it in the papers, and watched stories covering it on the BBC, I knew that at some stage tonight I would be listening to the Beatles.
Starting with a few tracks from the seminal (and underrated) album 'Rubber Soul', I am listening to a selection of Beatles tracks, tracks where George Martin's influence (as the legendary 'Fifth Beatle' a description not disputed, ever, by any of the members of the group who held him in high esteem, respecting him hugely) is evident.
From 'Rubber Soul' to 'Sgt Peppers'; then, a few others, 'Revolver', the 'White Album', and - perhaps - a few from 'Abbey Road'.
Currently listening to the superb 'A Day In The Life'; what an astonishing and ageless piece of music. (And George Martin had considerable influence when putting together this stunning track). Hard to believe that this piece of timeless music is almost fifty years old……..
