Yeah, I got to be careful now with the one-click iTunes store setup. Miss the icon by a tad and your in trouble.

:D

Fake! You just copied the picture from the app store to your phone.

I just made my own home screen icon that looks just like it! It's just a webclip that goes to Google.com but, it's still funny.

Hey! Anyone with the SDK can make this App in 2 seconds! Here's the icon I whipped up really quick:

Enjoy!

e. With millions of people starving in the world, approving this app is just encouraging w**kers. You know someone will waste the money and buy it. It is just wrong.

 Let's say someone does buy it.

Then $1,000 has transfered from one idiot's bank account to another idiot's bank account.

Please explain how that affects you, or me, or "starving people" one little bit.

he's saying he could donate it. However you all seem to be forgetting that the developers only get 70% of the profits from the app store.

Wow, I want to see how many people actually waste their money one it. The thing that surprises me is that Apple allows this app into the store, while removing NetShare and Box Office for no reason whatsoever. I understand that NetShare may have gone against Apple's agreements with developers, but there was no reason given for the Box Office removal. I think that this just show's Apple's care for the quality and integrity of their store. But then again, Apple is going to make $300 for each person that wastes there money on it.

i still dont see the difference between THIS app and a pocket book.. it IS all about status.. a diamond might be expensive because it is rare, but this would also be considered rare because the only people who will buy it are the ones with that kinda money to throw around..

explain to me why a pocket book is $17,000.00 and why THAT is a status symbol. There is NO shortage or pocket books, or fine leather, or even good designers.. its $17,000 because some how, somewhere along the line, the person who made the pocket book got a name for themselves and just STARTED selling them for a LOT more money than the average pocket book.. that is ALL that fashion is about. What makes one designer BETTER than the other?? Public perception of it's value..

this person is just creating a VALUABLE item by acutally putting a price tag on it

I guess you have to buy this App to prove you're rich. It doesn't do anything else.
Some people are vain. They probably would like this app.

If anyone's wondering: The App is just a picture of a diamond and it costs $999.99 on the AppStore. Do you think they'll take it down?
No.

The app maker has clearly stated what it is. There is no fraud or misrepresentation of the item.

AFAIK, Apple does not set the price for apps. The developers do.

Crazily enough, I can see the market for this.
Likewise.

Pffft... I'll wait for the $1499.99 blue diamond, thank you! :p
:)

I wonder if that's now the most expensive item available in all of iTunes.
I would imagine so ... for right now.

How can Apple pull something like Netshare without any explanation and allow this?
Because Netshare involved an issue with ATTs contract agreement with iPhone users.

It really does make a mockery of the length of time some developers have had to wait for their apps to go through Apple's QA process. If Apple's QA process was worth anything they would be weeding out the junk like this, otherwise what's the point in QA at all?
Does the application crash?

Is the application misrepresented, or fraudulently listed?

crap! i accidentally hit "buy app" what can i do? i dont want this thing
haha jk
I saw the white text.

But you bring up a good point. What about accidental purchases?

Someone should release a free version of this that looks the exact same, or at least very similar, but uses cubic zirconia.
Funny!

As hilarious as I think this is, I really think Apple should moderate the App Store.
If they do, this could be a very slippery slope for Apple.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen!. Why the hell would anybody pay $1000 for a picture of a fake jewel. What a waste. Even if I was a billionaire, I would not buy this app for the iphone. DUMB DUMB DUMB. I feel bad for developers whose 'useful' apps were turned down by apple, when crap like this shows up in the app store. Apple could have turned this down, and another developer could have had his/her app on the store.
Free enterprise. ;)

Some apple fanboys are seriously on drugs. Who would pay 1k for a screen saver? I can make that for free on my pc.
And PC fanboys.

Please remember that the iPhone/Touch platform is for both PC and Mac.

The only status I can see this app conveying is that of "COMPLETE AND UTTER ****"

Seriously, how does this carry any status? Firstly, you'd be idiotic to buy it, and secondly, anyone could make the same app and sell it for free.
Oh, I am sure someone will purchase this.

I would laugh at a person who pays for this app then loses their iphone. $1300+ wasted!
Apps are backed up on your computer.

I think he put it there to hopefully draw attention to his other program(s), which he mentions in the description. Plus, on the 2% chance that somebody actually buys it (even by accident), he's made 10x his money back.
He only has one other app, that I can see, called, "Pro Calc."

One copy of this app for him would be equal to 1,000 x 0.99 apps, or even 100 x 9.99 app sales.

Who knows, among those who can afford things like this, it might become the in thing to have. Rich people do weird things at times.

Hahahahahahaha......

I just wrote a review for it. I love this app.
So you purchased it?

The real question is, would anyone really be impressed if someone showed them that they spent $999 on a picture of a red diamond? Or would they just think that that person is pretty dumb?

On the other hand, the developer is pretty smart for thinking of this and actually getting it approved. Hopefully he'll make some coin off of people's stupidity.....
It would be fun to see his sales numbers.

How did this get through the so-called vetting process? - I mean seriously.

Do you know what I think - if it's not a physical 'threat' to the iPhone OS, Apple are letting it onto the App Store.
As I mentioned above, the listing is not fraudulent or misrepresents the product. And as long as it doesn't crash.

Yeah, I got to be careful now with the one-click iTunes store setup. Miss the icon by a tad and your in trouble.
No kidding.

I would imagine there may be some accidental sales.

Also, and I am not going to try this, there may be a secondary protocol for apps over X amount where the app store verifies that the buyer really wants to purchase the item. Then again, maybe not. What I do know, is that I am not going to click on it to find out.

I am not playing. I really bought this. Next you guys want me to show you my checkbook?
Sure. Why not? :p

i personally think the app is funny. is it a waste of money? of course. but hey it's not our money so who we to care.

In World of Warcraft you can buy a virtual diamond ring that costs a ton of virtual money for your loved one. did some people buy it? of course.

as for the comment that apple shouldn't have let the app in. how is apple going to segregate apps? what if a person does really want to buy it? go to download.com and there are a ton of stupid apps out there.

This stuff is taking up a developer's space on the AppStore?

Apple allows this cause they will be making $300 off of the bozos that will actually buy this c.r.a.p!

show us the screen shot of it in itunes then, if you did buy this--good effort
That would be fun to see as well.

i personally think the app is funny. is it a waste of money? of course. but hey it's not our money so who we to care.
Exactly.

as for the comment that apple shouldn't have let the app in. how is apple going to segregate apps?
This would become a slippery slope for Apple.

In the customer world, opinions vary greatly.

Apple allows this cause they will be making $300 off of the bozos that will actually buy this c.r.a.p!
Question. If someone buys this app, is it bogus?

Oh my god, the guy who made this is so genius. Plus you know that at least one person will buy it. DAmit! why can't I think of these things :D

If Apple's QA process was worth anything they would be weeding out the junk like this, otherwise what's the point in QA at all?

I suspect that this app was very easy for the QA people to test. All they had to do was verify that it does in fact do nothing. The purpose of QA is to remove stuff that either does not work or more importantly violates Apple's or AT&T's terms of use.
