...If anyone's wondering: The App is just a picture of a diamond and it costs $999.99 on the AppStore. Do you think they'll take it down?
Let's say someone does buy it.
Then $1,000 has transfered from one idiot's bank account to another idiot's bank account.
Please explain how that affects you, or me, or "starving people" one little bit.
Somehow I don't think this would fit, after all, the iPhone is expensive.Am I the only one that expected a simultaneous release of a free app called "I Am Poor"?
Pffft... I'll wait for the $1499.99 blue diamond, thank you!![]()
The only status I can see this app conveying is that of "COMPLETE AND UTTER ****"
Seriously, how does this carry any status? Firstly, you'd be idiotic to buy it, and secondly, anyone could make the same app and sell it for free.
Real diamonds are status symbols because they're rare, but pictures of diamonds are a dime a dozen.
but why not in the sense of WHY is a diamond app any more ridiculous that a $17,000 purse?? or a $120,000 pair of cufflinks?
The diamond image is really pretty. I've shown it to my friends and their like "holy cow man! You're really rich!" And I'm like "you know I am! Lemme buy you a pizza!"
Also the secret mantra was really helpful. I dont want to reveal what it is because that would ruin the fun.
The app does what it's supposed to do, and it does it really well, and the price is fair. There's just one small glitch that I think needs to be taken care of. Id like it if the diamond could change colors. That would be awesome.
If you have the money, like I do (and a lot of it), then buy this app. I think Im gonna buy it again just so people know Im REALLY rich. Thats how awesome it is, and barely put a dent in my wallet.
The reason the rich are rich is because they don't buy dumb things like this.![]()

So when Apple changes the limit to $9,999.99, we'll see the blue diamond then.Actually $999.99 is the maximum you can charge for an App in the store, hence the reason he probably didn't go further than that in the price.
Why thank you. When I'm rich i'll buy this for each and every one of you.
By George, I think he is finally catching on!This is so stupid it's awesome.
Good point. The reason the rich are rich is because they don't buy dumb things like this.![]()
I suspect that this app was very easy for the QA people to test. All they had to do was verify that it does in fact do nothing. The purpose of QA is to remove stuff that either does not work or more importantly violates Apple's or AT&T's terms of use.
the point about the purse and wallet and what not is not that the craftmanship is better in items like that, because OBVIOUSLY the craftmanship is top notch on an expensive purse liek that, but honestly, there is not enough man hours and materials that you CAN put into a purse or wallet to justify a price tag like that. it is all relative to what the public will pay.. that is how ALL marketing is done.. and if you have an original item with aname and status that goes behind it, then you can charge what ever you want.Diamonds aren't rare. In fact, if we consider the author to have a monopoly over the diamond software market the reason this app is expensive isn't that far from why real diamonds are. Of course, there's nothing stopping that monopoly from being broken...
I don't know about a $17,000 purse, but certainly a wallet from Hermes has some intrinsic value in excellent leather and workmanship. For the same cost of this app you could even buy a decent fully-canvassed suit if you shopped around.
Having said that, I don't consider this immoral. This isn't waste. Yes there are dying children out there, but few resources are consumed here. In fact, it's almost a zero-sum transaction. And for all we know the developer could be philanphropic or wherever the money goes it may end up benefitting less well off people, etc.
I was bored so I submitted a review
Anyone who would pay that much for this application is an embarrassment to the humans everywhere.
