Broke my insured Canon 17-40mm (use it with A7RIII and metabones adapter) and ordered a 28-75m Tamron while it was in stock for 5 minutes to "replace" it. Now I am trying to stop myself from buying the wide angle Sony (16-35 f4) because I really need a wide angle now.

Trying to keep from purchasing "everything or anything" -- except the generator I want to finish saving up for and hook up to my mains for auto-start during power outages. Apple keeps diverting my plans with their offerings. Lately resisting the XR iPhone which I find appealing despite my preference for smaller form factor of the SE. The red one, mmmm.

I’m in somewhat the same boat with respect to the generator and Apple’s relentless offerings.

We have two bids for a whole-house generator installation, and yikes, they’re expensive! A week’s worth of hotels is cheaper, by far. It’s harder to quantify the cost of disruption on one’s life, particularly if said life includes a number of challenges that are far better met by being able to remain at home.

Remembering the fairly recent six-day outage makes us think it’s worthwhile.

Any place but here or there....
Debating if I should just do the Barclays financing for a 2017 21.5” iMac etc.* because I’d rather avoid the T2 chip and think that 5k 27” will render text too small for my vision. I’ll have enough with my tax return, but these 2017s will probably be replaced by 2019 versions by then.

Either that or apply for credit card at my bank.

*+ iPhone 8 and iPad Pro (mom needs this 2018 iPad badly. Her iPad 2 is just about dead).

MacOS does a good job of scaling text. I'm currently typing on a 27" 4K monitor and I was concerned about how it would look. But it looks very good I have to say.

The Sony A7R III and 90mm macro lens I've been lusting after will have to wait a bit longer, since the 2018 15" MBP I just bought was a bit more expensive than the configuration I'd initially intended to purchase. Come spring, maybe new camera and lens.....

The newest Kindle Paperwhite. I already have a 2nd gen Paperwhite and a Kindle Keyboard which still works fine as well. I brought the PW gen 2 to read in the dark. Now the newest gen is water proof (the killer feature I've been wanting for a while now). Amazon is making it harder to resist by dropping the price to a C-note. Dunno how much longer I can hold out before I cave.

Could you not sell or gift the current Paperwhite? That's how I justify my purchases :D

I've had this wallet since 2008:

And with everything going digital now and carrying less, and with how outstanding this wallet held up over the last ten years, I'm ready to try something new that is a little smaller:

It isn't cheap at $425, but I think of the $450-$500 I spent on my current one and how long it lasted, and the fact it's still in great, usable shape, and there's no question it was worth it. I used to go through $50-$60 wallets annually, so it works out the same or better.

Apple Watch 4. I've got an Apple Watch 2. Short of heart attack warning ;) I'm not sure it is worth it.

I went from Sony to Fujifilm. But I've got to say the Zeiss lenses on my Sony blew me away with sharpness!!!! That is my one regret selling of the Zeiss lenses. Good luck with your obsessions ;)

It's so hard to resist, I drive past a dealership that sells a lot of them to & from work.

My spouse has the 50th Anniversary Mustang Convertible.....only the turbo-4. I can't imagine who incredible tis would be. Mustangs are so fun to drive. When I switch to my Jeep Cherokee I cray hitting the corners or zooming around ;0

I'm increasingly finding myself yearning for a series 4 watch. I also have a series 2.

I checked the model number on my watch via the Apple.com site. Looks like I have a Series 1, not a Series 2 like I thought. I swear the Series 2 was out when I purchased at the local Apple Store. Oh well way to late now to do anything but look to the Series 4.

Been holding out on getting these.

Long time Android fan, never really been a fan of the iOS layout, but the iPhone XS design had me interested to give it a shot. I feel that there are so many similarities in what Android and iOS do well that I hope it would be a similar experience from either at this stage (unlike the first 5 years of both) However I do see myself regretting spending a crazy amount of money just because I'm curious. If anyone that has made the switch could offer some advice it is much appreciated in advance. I'm likely going to take the plunge once the new iPhone comes out in 2019 (sincerely hoping Apple bring USB-C to iPhone, would make life so much easier coming from a Pixel 2XL)

iPhone XS.jpg

My current Dell XPS 13 is showing it's age (3 years+) through lacking performance, as I recently got a GoPro Hero 7 Black and attempted to edit some footage the other day. Safe to say I haven't seen so much lag on this device ever. Play back was fine after waiting over an hour for a 2min video to render, but the edit process (scrubbing etc.) was ridiculously slow, not to mention the aforementioned render time. Thinking a MBP15 might fit the bill, but hoping to hold until the June release next year. As the MBP is already on USB-C my cable-game is sorted. I have owned a MBP13 from 2013, but sold that after 2 years for whatever reason. I do really miss that trackpad, literally the best trackpad on laptop I have used. The only other reservation I have with getting the MBP is the current talk of a slightly average keyboard (compared to the 2015 versions) as well as some issues with the T2 chips?

Watch Series 4. Another reason I wanted to experiment with the iPhone. I've been looking for a smartwatch to pair with my Pixel 2XL for a while, but none have had me convinced. Each have had their issues or lack of certain features for me to prolong this purchase.

Of course, all of the above means switching to the Apple "ecosystem", after over a decade of Windows and almost 8-ish (maybe more) of Android smartphone usage.

Is it too late to make the switch? Are there any tips someone could recommend to make the transition easier or any other things to consider? Granted, I am likely to see what the next iPhone release will bring to make the big smartphone switch, the MBP is probably going to be my first purchase out of the above and the Watch soon to follow to the new Phone.
