Like you said, to each their own. I dont see why anybody would have a calender on their homescreen. Im fine with just looking at a date by the clock as opposed to a whole calender.

Was more like an agenda view. Good for upcoming multiple deadlines etc. I am not really a fan of clocks on home screen. Looks redundant as i already have time showing up on status bar.

I can see how it can be useful for people with weaker eyesight though. Still, you can lock the phone and see the time on lock screen :p

yes, a funny thing called human nature, there isnt one human female in this universe who wouldnt pick the richer one between two identical clones, hence the conclusion - women value material goods

it amazes me how hard it is for some people to grasp concepts that are so plain, simple and direct

now eat your iphone

What I think people aren't getting is an iPhone isn't expensive anymore. With a contract you can get a 4 for less then 100 bucks. Everyone has one and it's in no way exclusive. Like I mentioned there was a thread where a dad gave his 8 old son an iPhone.

And while I won't disagree a woman can be attracted to some for there material possessions. But for lack of better words even poor people have iPhones. You'd have to be real trailer trash to say "oh he's got one of dem dare iPhones, he must super rich"

Interestingly, the one comment I get from my coworkers is that they cannot afford an iPhone so they went with Android. Most of them don't care about smartphone tech of course, but iPhone does carry that stigma.

With that said, in terms of women, I wouldn't say that they typically recognize you b/c an iPhone means you're rich. Rather, it's an easy conversation starter b/c an iPhone is easier to identify. The average person doesn't care what phone you are holding, but they can probably identify an iPhone of any generation over an Android.

Yes i am aware of all that. I have owned android handsets before and recently sold my last one, and have experimented with ROMs and themes and launchers etc etc.

Sure your home screen looks different, but you have the same info: a weather widget, that clock and some notifications with the battery percent (i still don't know why is it so hard for google to show battery percentage in status bar, MIUI does it in a very nice way too). Same stuff i find undesirable and no need for.

I used to have a gmail and calendar widget on my phone, every thing else i played with and deleted because i would never use it. Like pulse reader or some other RSS apps. I found i just never bothered to check them. So why kill my battery.

But i found that i still clicked on my gmail widget to go into the app every time i wanted to read an email and regardless of the preview i still wanted to see the entire message list in the app. The only thing i used was calendar, but it shows up in the notification center on iOS 5 and i like it better than taking up the screen where i could put shortcuts instead.

I prefer apps compared to looks. Even WP7 homescreen looks fine to me. I used to heavily mod my windows xp laptop back in the day making it look like different platforms or just different, but for the last three years i am over it. My current windows 7 PC looks generic except for app icons and my choice of wallpaper of course. And i haven't lost anything. Just freed up more time to focus on more productive things.

Same goes with my smartphone. Give me more functionality, battery life and a very responsive system with constant support from the vendor. And so far iPhone has been doing great at this for me.

Google does show the battery in the status bar. I chose to hide mine. If you prefer apps to widgets, what apps are available on the iPhone that are not on the Android? You can install 3rd party apps on the Android without even needed to root it. You can put calendar shortcuts on your home screen. You can put a short cut to any app you want and make it look like iOS. You could go with no widgets at all. I could've loaded the screen with app shortcuts like iOS but I chose not to. Apple takes all that personalization away from the user.

I wouldn't admit your coworkers can't afford a hundred dollar phone. Lol

Fact is phones on contract are the same price for the most part. Top tier android phones are 299 with a 2 year contract and so is the 32 gb iPhone I believe. Even off contract there might be a hundred dollar difference or so.

I wouldnt buy to much into the iPhone stigma. The reason android phones are less expensive is because they are less of a rip off. Seriously they can have higher end processors, more ram, bigger screens, more advanced screen tech vs apples LCD, NFC, removable storage, LTE chips etc etc AND they are less money? Apples expensive cause suckers like me will buy them.

And what you fail to see with the "customization" argument is that i have no need for it. Hence i am fine with my "choice". If my android phone ends up looking like iOS app icons then what's the point? 3rd party apps? lol most are garbage. Emulators? Need physical controls to enjoy those properly.

So now we are making hypothetical claims to back us up eh? Show me the two identical clones in the real world.

I feel bad for you never having come into contact with women who have higher character than the airheads you like to get into. But that's your preference i guess.

And you failed to make me eat my iPhone with your fantasy argument. Try again.

That wasn't my point. My point was that they have the perception that iPhone is not a reasonable expense.

Also, I fail to see how the iPhone is a rip off since your list of features don't necessarily correlate to customer satisfaction w/ the phone.

This.

What can an iPhone do that a android phone can't?

I think it's the video resolution that a Android phone can't come up to, i got a video up to 720P, but iPhone supports it much better.

So now we are making hypothetical claims to back us up eh? Show me the two identical clones in the real world.

to make a valid conclusion in this regard you need to use hypothetical situations, heard of a thing called sociology? psychology? they dont use hypothetical situations?

and this hypothetical claim is as valid as it gets, you can call it the ultimate truth, human beings value material goods, and believe it or not, women more than man, its just in our nature, women need material security, for them and their children, before - the most successful hunter was most eligible for marriage, today - rich successful people...

i understand that there are people who want to suppress those inner psychological needs, like priests who dont involve in sexual relationships, but the need is there, and it will always be, those who dont understand that are in denial

why do you have to be so offensive? is it because you know the validity of my claims and are afraid that eating an iphone could be painful?

so, use your head (brain) cognitive functions, hypothetical situation: two twins, same looks, same smarts, same character, one makes less, one makes more, who do you think every woman in this world will pick? and of course, she just met them...
the thing you talk about is feelings, thats why i used hypothetical situation, to get rid of everything else, so just two identical human beings, no feelings, nothing except difference in success?
thats called scientific method, inductive reasoning with a little bit of knowledge in basic human psychology and sociology. those things you learn in high school, been to high school?

listen, i dont think its the most important thing, today it is becoming the least important thing, but it still matters, and it will always matter, even just a little bit, and thats the claim you fail to acknowledge, think about it

That wasn't my point. My point was that they have the perception that iPhone is not a reasonable expense.

Also, I fail to see how the iPhone is a rip off since your list of features don't necessarily correlate to customer satisfaction w/ the phone.

True, but how does customer satisfaction make the device more expensive to produce thus making it more expensive to buy?

Sure maybe a little more r&d in certain areas and certain things are more polished.

But comparatively speaking there is more bang for your buck when it comes to features with Android. And it's not that they are giving away the android phone it's just that apple can get away with charging more for technically less "stuff".

Don't get me wrong either I do feel compelled to buy brand name and find some value with it. But it does come to a point where over paying is a little silly. The iPad is a good example my gf has an ipad2 and it's just an oversized iPhone whereas my Xoom is more of a undersized laptop. She loves the iPad but even she'll admit she bought it for its name without even considering the competition and she'll use my xoom just cause its a better experience. LTE for faster downloads, embedded flash works, easy use of emulators to play old school video games, etc

We will probably have to just agree to disagree on something's though.

really, did you just say the Xoom is an undersized laptop to the ipad being an oversized iphone? I can do more with an ipad in just about every field of study and job than you could ever dream of with the Xoom. Not to mention, how's the latest ICS download from Google working for ya? Think that Xoom will stillbe supported in 6 months time?
Thereis only one advantage the Xoom has and that is native Flash, but I don't really call that an advantage, considering there are apps that allow flash on the ipad.

Care to elaborate what we can do with our iPad that we can't do with our xoom?

Face it, it has a file system and I can download/upload from any place on the Internet be it http or FTP. That right moves it out of the phone category.

ICS is on googles official update list so I'll get it when I get it. More importantly why do I want it? There isn't to many upgrades from honeycomb. You seem more concerned then I am and I own the thing.

I'm not saying the iPad is useless like you might think I just find it less useful.

And I realize some people honestly believe that android devices never get updates. It only true with the junky devices though. The og droid very first Motorola got an os update in nov and guess what? Unlike the 3GS the os update doesn't bring the phone to its knees. Why would I want an os update that cripples the phone? The old nexus is running an official update of ics.

If you go and buy a 20 dollar pantech android phone then yes you might not see very many if any updates at all. But most if not all the high end devices will get updates until the hardware to support it comes into question.

I hate to tell you this but the reason why so many professions use the iPad, including the US military, airlines, medical profession, etc... Is because the iPad has the capability to handle high end graphics (like say downloading, reviewing and manipulating MRI's, CT scans or the launch parameters and Profiles of a Tamahawk cruise missile) not to mention the consumer abilities to pair it wirelessly with my HP printer and control the scanner and have the scan go directly to my ipad, or wirelessly pairing it with my Apple tv or itunes on my computer to watch tv shows and videos or to wirelessly transfer photos from my printer, iphone, ipod or ipad to another said device. Then there is the linking with a monitor and keyboard if I want it... And I haven't even gotten into the really good stuff after jailbreaking my ipad. It's also nice to know that so many app developers love iOS. Probably why there is over 110,000 specific to the iPad which ensures that no matter what you profession you are in, you'll have apps available.

Now can your Xoom match any of that, since you know, it is an undersized laptop? How about putting 60gb of data on your Xoom? A bit of a joke there on that last bit. ;)

I just edited my post because I came off to wrong.

Please research the Xoom. The military does use it (I'm a government contract and use it too).

They are capable of 64gb storage so your joke sucks. I can remove 32 gb and put it into a computer.

And if programmed for it the graphics are higher end (research tegra zone).

Printing and scanning to hp printers? Haha been there done that I can use any wi fi printer.

You can plug the xoom into ANY tv or projector with hdmi in and use a wireless mouse and keyboard. Or wifi tv.

Instead of making broad statements that are for the most part incorrect just point out direct examples. Due plenty of research you are talking to someone that has both so you just sound dumb. Btw I cracked up at your military statement as if only one computing system is chosen.

You don't watch that little football thing called the nfl do you? Every tablet I've seen being used on the side line is a xoom.

Let me start off with your last statement about seeing Xooms used on the sideline of NFL games. You really should be more careful whom you speak with, because current NFL rules prohibit the use of tablets on the sidelines during games. By the way, Ravens, Bucs and Falcons are known to be using the iPad via ARALOC, but not during the game.

From CNN.com by John Couwels dated Nov 12, 2011:
But don't expect to see the tablets on the sidelines of games, in locker rooms or in the coaches' booth. NFL rules prohibit the use of any electronic computers, tablets or recording devices within 90 minutes of kickoff.
"Polaroid-type cameras" are the only device allowed to be used during a game, according to NFL rules. The cameras capture high angle still images of the field, which are printed on paper near the players' benches on the field, giving the teams a different view of what their opponents are doing on the field.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy says the league is "strategically holding back" on technology advancements.

As for the military, I've been in for over 20 years, specifically working in the intel community. Tablets are still pretty much a no no, only a very few select areas within the military are using them and I can specifically vouch for the iPad and the US Navy. I have yet to see another tablet 'officially' approved for use with any sort of ordnance, aircraft, ground vehicle or ship. And if what you say is true about the military approving the use of the Xoom, please provide the source. Cause quite frankly, I'm having trouble believing what you are saying right now.

Hmm

I work for http://www.chesapeaketesting.com/ we use them exclusively.

Aside from you just saying things I'm assuming you have no "sources" or even pics?

This is getting silly now. This is how rumors get started. Oh Macworld claims the Xoom can't have 64gb of memory. It can't broadcast to a tv. It can't print. Etc it must be true...

See my problem here? You talking out of your ass to people that want to believe is pointless for me.

Okay, so everything you said in your original post has been a complete lie, you admit this now? The NFL bit about Xooms used on the sideline, was a boldface lie. And now you are saying that as a contractor you are using a Xoom, so you just equate that as though the military has approved the Xoom's use? Do you not see a problem here?

I gave you the CNN.com article specifically citing the prohibition of electronics up to 90 minutes before a game and here are articles citing the Marine Corp and Navy's approval and use of the iPad.http://www.dvidshub.net/news/71885/semper-fipad-marine-corps-aviators-use-popular-tablet-afghanistan#.Tyc8mZV5mK0
https://www.macrumors.com/2011/06/21/marine-corps-and-civilian-aircrews-replacing-maps-with-ipads/

I do like how you gave me a link to a contractor page, which means absolutely nothing to the topic at hand, and makes no mention of the use of Motorola products by the way. Hell, I can give you a couple hundred useless contractor pages as well. Please provide one single shred of evidence showing the military, in fact any military in the world, has approved the use of the Xoom. You may find this hard since Motorola has only sold a few thousand of them.

If you are going to lie, don't make things so obvious, especially to someone that can prove your lying. Seriously, the NFL bit was a bit too much. Still chuckling at that lie you gave.

Couple of others:

-iPhones play well with Macs much better than Android devices do with other computers. Apple's system is designed to integrate Apple products. Android products are standalones.

-iPhones can play iTunes DRM'd content. Androids can't.

-Apps makers usually offer iOS versions before Android versions.

-iPhones and Blackberry's are more accepted by business clients Than Androids because of their enhanced security features.

-Many more brands make Made for iPhone specific accessories.

Etc., Etc., Etc.,

1)itunes is desinged for iphone so that is
expexted..

2)apple gets more offers for apps because they pay a ridiculous amount of money...

3)iphones and blackberrys been around longer thats it android has all kinds of security softwares

4)the accesories thats not important you can find millions on ebay for android..

Now try downloading "foxfi" on your iphone and using your internet to connect laptop ps3 etc...

Iphones is a phone only with some comp capabilitlies...android phones come ready to go is a phone and comoputer....

Iphones work faster on mobile pages ...android goes faster on desktop versions ....

Try playing supernintendo sega all the childhood systems on iphone without jailbreakin its impossible while android comes ready for it...

When i comes down to it iphones has a great touchscreen and more apps the only thing they beat android on is having more apps

FaceTime.

Well that's a given for now. There are so many alternatives and I do hope FaceTime is offered by Apple for other systems.

Anyway, I honestly can't thing of something that is serious that an iPhone can do that an Android phone can't.

One app that makes iPhone superior to android and that is GarageBand. That is the main reason I got the 4S. Had to give up droid to have the perfect portable studio.

Don't ever compare phones by Apps. That is not even a factor anymore. Almost anything I've ever wanted is in the market.
The customization for me is a big plus. The bigger screen for games and media too.

You absolutely can!!!!!! And should!!! The AppStore trumps the android market. It's a question of quality and quantity, apple has both. Oh and apps from the AppStore are generally much more secure and less likely to be viruses or spyware than android apps.

It's a trade off for more customization, if one is a tinkerer, android is perfect for them. IPhone is more ready to go, although it is tinker able through jailbreaking.
