2013 6-core, 64 GB, 2 TB Mac Pro if I decide to get one. Right now there isn’t much point to worrying about it since the minimum wait for a non-base Ultra is 10-12 weeks. But I’m looking at the 64 GB, 4 TB, 48 GPU core Ultra for a cool $5 grand.

iMac Pro (2017)
3 GHz 10-Core Intel Xeon W
64 GB
2 TB
Radeon Pro Vega 16 GB

going to fully maxed out Mac Studio w/ Pro Display XDR

It's replacing my M1 Mini and my home built PC that I am currently selling for parts.

Used to be a gamer but lately I've lost interest in using a PC to do it, so I am consolidating everything into 1 Studio Max.

Base model M1 Mac Mini > Base model Mac Studio M1 Max
I had two requirements for my upgrade, more than 16GB of RAM, native support for three or more monitors and a more powerful GPU.

2013 Max Pro trashcan.

I’m going to have to upgrade my room heating with the Mac Studio, which has done great service, but even playing back YouTube videos at resolutions beyond 1920x1080 is a bit hit and miss. (It can be a bit temperamental on the Studio over HDMI but seems much better on displayport to thunderbolt.)

The Thunderbolt 2 to 3 converter from Apple seems to work ok with my nas and drives (and is less than half price when bought from Amazon, for some reason).

Lightroom seems to cause the 32Gb Studio to swap, for no obvious reason, which was never an issue with the trashcan.

Coding projects are probably the area where I have noticed the biggest speedup, however.

My overall impression is that the MacOS devs have been spending their time on revenue-generating apps and adding features, when they should probably have devoted more time to tuning WindowServer to make it less of a hog and making it easier to for developers to tune their apps to get the most out of the new architecture. At present there seems to be a good deal of throttling and underutilisation of the hardware.

2009 Mac Pro 4,1 > 5,1. Thirteen years old. The Mac Studio M1 Max 32 core GPU won't last so long. It's not upgradable. But I hope to use it 7 years. Fingers crossed that the fans won't make the terrible high pitch noise.

M1 Mini 16 GB and more of what I was doing on 2020 i5 10th gen 13" MBP.

Just don't need expensive "high performance" portability much anymore (and use my work laptops right beside my personal systems quite often too).

2011 MacBook Pro 15". It was a beast for years now so outdated and slow. Can't wait for the Studio. Arrives today. Studio display waiting patiently on the desk for the M1 Max's arrival.

Do I win a prize? I replaced my 2019 28-core Mac Pro with a W6800X Duo with a fully-loaded Studio Ultra 64GPU/128GB/8TB. The Ultra is faster at every single thing I use my computer for with one exception--focus stacking huge image stacks. The Mac Pro will now be dedicated 100% to that task, so it's not a loss, but if the software vendor would update their product with Metal support, I'd bet the Studio would even be faster at that last remaining task.
