WowSeems like I'm one of many others who have held on to an ancient Mac Pro...
2009 Mac Pro 4.1 (8x2.93Ghz, Radeon RX580, 48GB RAM, various SSDs)
Upgrading to Studio M1 Ultra (64 Core GPU, 128GB, 2TB)

never had any trouble with my 2012 iMac until recently the plastic spring in the neck broke. so now the monitor tilts forward. Im using a superball wedged between the stand and the screen to prop it up.iMac 27" late 2012. It's still a beast of a machine (3.4MHz quad, 32 GB RAM). I had to replace the motherboard a couple of years ago and "rented" one of the latest macs as a replacement and it couldn't handle what this was capable of.
Mine is very similarly spec'd, but my Mac Studio arrives in June. If you already have yours, how is the performance compared with the AMD? I've had the AMD for the past 16 months and am pretty happy with the performance, it's Windows and all that stuff that I'd like to lose.AMD 3900x 12 core, 64GB Ram with a 3060Ti GPU.
You need an Apple Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter for $50. They work well.I ordered the Mac Studio and Studio Display about week after they were released. The Mac Studio arrived first and the Monitor arrived yesterday. This is a replacement for my 2015 27" iMAC. I, like many others, were hoping for a new 27" with the M1 chip, but that does not appear likely. The 24" maxes out at 16 gig of ram so it was not an option. I wanted to retain the 27" monitor and have enough ram to run Lightroom, Photoshop, and Luminar efficiently without straining. This does the trick.
For others making the transformation my migration took almost 13 hours. I had purchased a thunderbolt cable expressly for the purpose of accomplishing the migration more efficiently, but the thunderbolt 3 was not compatible with the thunderbolt port on the back of the 2015 27". I should have confirmed that before I started, so that is on me.
I am still trying things out and reinstalling some apps that need the license moved. I am 71 years old so this may be the last computer. Hope it is a good one! Good luck to everyone who bought this monster.
if you connect the Ethernet port from your Mac Studio to the one on your iMac, it automatically sets up a virtual network that you can use to transfer files fairly quickly. You have to have file sharing enabled on you iMac too.I ordered the Mac Studio and Studio Display about week after they were released. The Mac Studio arrived first and the Monitor arrived yesterday.
