Personal uses:
--Nightstand TV
--games
--eReader
--notepad/journal
--sketchpad
--smart home controller
--all the other usual tablet stuff (email, iMessage, etc.)

Work uses:
--monitoring Outlook and Webex messages
--monitoring and managing my projects
--taking notes in OneNote

For both sets of uses, I often plug it into my LG UltraFine monitor and use it with keyboard and mouse. I love having an iPad in my lineup because it fills in so well for so many things.

Trying to replace mac as main device due to constant buggy issues on Ventura though not there yet. Generally fed up with mac and old desktop paradigm. Used only as fallback.

For my iPad Air M1

Financial tracking with Numbers
Evernote and OmniFocus for tasks plus Goodnotes
Ideas and planning, iThoughts, iaWriter, OmniOutliner, Pages and Concepts
Usual email, WA, Web and streaming plus music, YT , Apple Music
Markup documents, some scanning

The only stuff I can’t do are CD rips and video downloads, perhaps one day it will be allowed. Also maybe a database server

Files management have well known issues but use workarounds where poss but don’t like shortcuts .

Most stored files in iCloud but wish had got larger local storage, considering trade in upgrade

Only mac software I regret not using is Curio, no availability on iPad. Must take another look at Freeform but seems too basic.

Since os16, found whole experience much better and 17 looks to be a decent if small improvement.

Web browsing, reading books, writing in Pages and watching videos is workable, but not perfect on my 13 Pro Max and something the size of the 'standard' iPad or larger would be overkill for me when I'm just sitting on the couch, out on the patio or somewhere else like that. That's where my 5th Gen Mini comes in - not too big, not too small, but just right for all the things I don't want to do on my phone.

Other than when traveling the only thing I use it for is a replacement for sheet music for my piano or violin. At home I use my desktop more than everything, same at work. I usually only watch media on my TV.

I cannot find the battery percentage life left after frequent charging like we can on iphone. :(
I find that my battery is pretty short when using apps like garageband or procreate and battery falls rapidly from 100 to 60 at the time so i have not been using it often.

I also can’t find how to figure out battery health on the iPP.

To everyone that wants to know their iPad's battery health. I use a shortcut for my iPhone: https://www.payetteforward.com/shortcut-check-your-iphones-battery-cycle-count/

I think that this is applicable to iPadOS, however the shortcut itself behaves erratically. I can't seem to make it work on my mom's iPhone, while it works for me.

I am not affiliated with the website or whomever made the shortcut. Hope it helps.

On topic:

I have stopped using my iPad for everyday tasks. It is excellent when you're traveling and want to download pictures taken with a digital camera. Excellent, lightweight and powerful enough for modifying photos on the fly.

When I was a student it helped me saving ~60-70 Kg of paper, although I was never particularly happy with the battery life and how much the screen was hot after minutes of usage.

My iPad is the first 10.5'' pro model. I think these models are defective? I had mine replaced because it had a brighter spot and the replacement unit exhibits the same issue. Not really an issue but...

Web browsing, content consumption, reading, games, FaceTime and messaging. This is my everything device. Right now I think I’m leaning toward favoring my Mini vs Air. We’ll see who wins out.

Sometime soon it will be used for note taking when I start classes.

Glorified eReader and gaming device - which I don't exactly hate. I do have a Magic Keyboard and in theory I could do my job on it but I vastly prefer my MacBook for situations like that.

iPad is the device I could do without and it's largely a toy for me.

I rarely use my iPad 8th gen. I will give it to my wife when or if her 6th gen becomes a pain to use. I use my M1 2020 MacBook Air all the time.

My M1, iPad Pro is my everything device. I watch YouTube videos, I FaceTime with the grandkids, and watch television on it. Because I must wear CPAP when I sleep I need a distraction from the tubing in my nose, so I listen to podcasts as I fall asleep. I am also the family historian, so I have countless pictures and videos of all the family and of all the family long gone. I also depend on Siri for smart home control and text messaging and dictation of all sorts. I keep information about all the home appliances in notes so that I don’t have to crawl around and find model and serial numbers when they need to be serviced. Mine is the main calendar for the family so everyone knows what is going on for that day. I also keep health records in notes, but will gladly turn that over to journal when it comes out or maybe the health app, it depends on which works better for me. I keep track of my medication‘s in it also notes. I get my notifications of what ever is happening in the neighborhood and in the country through notifications. And I keep up with what the weather is going to be for the day. As I am retired, I don’t need , the iPad for work related items. But I am thoroughly addicted to it for home use.

Just a sofa surfing device. I browse the web, iMessage, watch YouTube, Netflix, Tapatalk for this forum, emails and that’s about it. I upgrade my iPads rarely as I don’t exactly do anything taxing with them.

I should add that I use my iPad to grocery shop and regular shop sometimes @ 3 a.m. for birthday presents, Christmas presents clothes even. Amazon is, my friend, and my iPad is my shopping cart. My iPad is my lifeline as I’m aging, that’s why I am always on about how little Apple does for Siri, because Siri, as I said, before, it is an enormous help to the elderly and the disabled.

I bought it thinking I’d use it for work purposes. Note taking, marking pdfs etc but end up defaulting to my mac

For me, I use the iPad for watching shows in bed, that’s about it…

I use it for a lot. I use it primarily for watching stuff like YouTube, Apple TV+, Disney+ etc. I also use it for some very light doodling, web browsing, music listening/controlling my HomePods, anytime I want a bigger screen than my phone, and/or a physical keyboard, email, word processing (trying to do more writing as I really enjoy it when I can find the motivation to do so). I’ve dabbled in some photo editing and the like as well which has been fun.

Drawing and Painting. Lots of it. It's also fitting into other rolls like when I do sculpting, I don't have a monitor at that station, so I will use my ipad for reference and watching the youtubes. It's also a great launching off point for starting projects. I'll sit down with it and start sketching ideas and collecting reference and starting to organize projects. Sometimes I'll get carried away with that part of the project because it's just so fun to collect reference with it. All that swiping and what-not. Idk, i just like doing it that way.

I’ll use it for several hours some days. A few times a week I won’t even touch my Mac. The iPad will usually suffice for what i like to do.

Web Browsing
Reading News
Reddit - Apollo
Sketching - Procreate
Magazines - Apple News
Instagram
Games
Youtube
Shopping- Amazon, EBay, etc….
Occasional writing with Ulysses and Word.
Listening and discovering new music.

It’s well worth it for me. I’ve had an iPad since the iPad 2 and I can never see myself without one.
