Holy Batman! Forza Horizon 5 us simply insane. What Microsoft have achieved is out of this world.:eek::eek:

It's a proper next gen games. The details on cars, details in the world, real time lighting, real time reflections, car damage and damage physics of the ambient world are all 10/10. Don't be fooled by the videos. On my Series X, the game looks like a prerendered video!

There is the catch or compromises? There are none. 60fps performance mode is the way to go. It's extremely difficult to spot visual downgrades from quality mode.

Honestly. This makes Dirt 5 look like a 3 year old game.

The future of Xbox is Bright because Forza Horizon 5 is so stunning that I want to get out of the car and walk around.

I briefly considered picking up a Series S to play this game. But it would really only be for this game, and that’s too much money for one game. Playing Burnout Paradise instead to scratch that open world racing itch. :)

It is also available on the One S (I presume these are cheaper these days). Coupled with the free Gamepass trial...

Unless you are specifically looking for a prettier version of the game.

The One S is around 180 €, the Series S is about 280 €. If I were to get one, I would get a new gen console.

What is the current verdict on Series S vs Series X? Do the games look largely the same or is there a radical difference in graphics or performance? I would look at Forza Horizon and Flight Simulator.

It mostly depends on the game. IIRC FH5 and FS show the "smallest" visual differences between the two consoles (uh lets ignore resolution differences).

Resolution is not a top priority to me. I have a 55" 4k OLED, but I sit far enough away from it, that the difference between 1080p and 4k is mostly lost on me.

-Is the Series S a great console and worth buying? Yes.
-Is the Series X worth the premium?

If I owned a PS5 I would pick up a pre-owned Series S to dabble with Gamepass. If I like the games, I would then ladder up to a Series X.

I watched the video and found it very interesting and helpful.

If I were to get an XBox, it would be the Series S to play Forza Horizon and Flight Simulator. I think I sit too far from my tv to really appreciate the higher resolution that the Series X would give me, especially when the price difference is over 200 €.

But I don't see that really happening at all, the investment to play just two games is hard to justify.

I would save up and get the series X. Don’t compromise unless you want a secondary Xbox (series S) in another part of the home.
As far as forza horizon 5. The graphics are insane. The intro was breathtaking and I’m lucky to finish it. When I was customizing my character, my tv was crappy out and now tv is all burnt in and pixelated (w/double or triple images-looks like old school 3D without wearing glasses lol). Good thing it’s before Black Friday and I can tell wifey that new tv is mandatory.

FH5 is a masterpiece. I honestly didn't expect it to be such a big leap over FH4 in graphics, gameplay, physics and cheer hilarious fun!

Most importantly, I have always preferred sim over arcade racers but FH5 has changed my attitude.

I wonder what this means for Forza Motorsport 8? There has to be more to it than just choosing tracks and doing 3-5 laps around them. FH5 has flipped the racing genre on its head.

Tell me more about FH5 gameplay. I hear that it's open world. Does it encourage exploring? Can you find hidden collectibles, short cuts, stunt jumps, etc.? That's what made Burnout Paradise so fun for me.

I haven’t played too much but it is open world, I haven’t seen any obvious collectibles yet though. I feel it is like Need for Speed minus the pursuit chases to be honest.

Yes. It encourages exploring. The world is huge with highly diverse and detailed scenery..

Gameplay in Forza Horizon 5 is incredibly diverse. Think of it as a merger of traditional open world racing meets Fortnite and Minecraft. It's a social experience as much as it's a racing game.

Gameplay include:
  • Traditional races 3-5 laps
  • Sprint races
  • Stunt challenges
  • Speed challenges
  • Off road expeditions
  • Capture the flag
  • Eliminator(fortnite style)
  • Barnfind
  • Gifting a random racer a car and being randomly gifted a car by someone.
  • Virtual car meets and convoys

This is just skimming the surface of things to do. At its core it's a social game. You can either race against other people's driveatars or against community members who are online. You also rack up experience points when people race against your driveatar when you not playing. Most impressively about this arcade game is the visual level of the cars - externally and internally. You can also customise the look of the cars and tune them.

What you make of the game is your choice. Either race super competitively, do creative stuff, drive around or hangout! This is why it's such a celebrated. There's something in it for everybody.:)

Currently playing Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. Grabbed it on sale for $9 right after the latest update including the Motherland DLC. I'm enjoying it but it only runs 30fps on my Series S which is a bit of a letdown after AC: Odyssey. The only other thing that bugs me is some object [transparency] issues at times.

Forza Horizon 5 is making me interested in buying an xbox... Think there will be some nice black friday deals?
On games or consoles? I haven't seen the Series S really go below ~$290 at costco and the Series X is still scarce.

xbox.com has a new collection of games that go on sale every Tuesday. Games that are a few years old get nice discounts (like steam).
