Vampires & Nazis what could possibly go wong LOL...

Rayne being a cross of human & vampire (dhampir) has the both the best & worst of both worlds. The graphics are dated by todays standards, yet the gameplay is right up there and unlikely to be reproduced in this overly cautious climate. First game has the stronger storyline the second the better graphics & mechanics, both I like...

I remember this title, watched a video, I may have played it. Good combat, I assume? On Steam, it’s $14.95. My definitive, favorite Vampire game is Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines and that is definitely has dated graphics that still has a stellar atmosphere.

Bloodrayne 1 & 2 are now graphically updated although not full remasters. Fun Hack & Slash and although updates the games still show their age so I'd wait on a sale. Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines very different game being a heavyweight RPG still with a strong following.

VM:B incredible, play as a Malkavian. I love that dialog and I’d be hyped to see this as a movie. :)

Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines remains to be a good RPG, yet is ageing and not overly friendly to modding due to the game engine. Would be nice to see a remaster sooner or later. I know VM:B2 is in dev but aside seemingly many issues the game has a lot to live up to...

Another Vampire focused RPG where the player needs to make impactful decisions to save or take life.
Not as broad & deep as VM:B yet has a more modern presentation with it's own style and flavour.

The thing about VM:B, the atmosphere/music/dialog was incredibly good, although now graphically dated, and I never thought about using mods with it other than the unofficial patch required to get it to run on present day Windows.

Of interest, if anyone buys this on Steam for the first time, a patch is required, which a reference for it can be found in the Steam VM:B forums. It’s a universal patch that as far as I know is still updated today.

I’m fearful that VM:B2 will not live up to my expectations, huge shoes to fill.

VM:B on GOG has the community patch pre installed, however it you want the Plus version you need to DL from Moddb

Same price As Steam?
$20 US, but comes up on a deal from time to time. No sweat to install the community patch, however the GOG version is also DRM free :) Just stick on the Wishlist and get when on sale, VMB is good, but old, think pricing should be more reflective given all concerned have well and truly made their money over the years :)

Radiophobia 3
Still playing :) The game has really pushed my skills at times. I even considered putting it aside, but that was on me. I didn't get the dev's intention for a specific scenario, thinking it breaks the storyline. It doesn't it's simply a very challenging task to fully accomplish...

Patrolling with Duty; on the way to rescue one of their crew from the Bandits, was a blood bath didn't end well for the Bandits LOL.

One of the hardest stealth missions I've ever played in any game at any time. Successfully acquiring the documents without detection from the Cordon Military Outpost is a serious challenge. Took me several days to figure out a working strategy and then put it into plaice. Great sense of accomplishment as you slip off into the darkness with the goods in your hand and your adversaries non the wiser  Scale of difficulty out of 10, this one's a hard 11...

Atmosphere abounds, the player is deeply drawn into the game world and it's characters. Tremendous audio & visuals for a 15 year old game...

HD character models fit really well in Radiophobia 3. Some S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mods they can look out of place, not the case here.

Superb use of atmosphere, colour & mood. Tension is absolutely palpable when traversing the map's in the dark. Ask anyone who plays S.T.A.L.K.E.R. about Blood Suckers. In Radiophobia 3 they are a serious enemy, one to be reckoned with and truly feared...

Fallen comrade; a friend from the past lost to the Zone, yet his valuable intel will help to unravel the mysteries that lie ahead...

Lab X-16 done & dusted :) What a rush, finally the exit. Superb level, full of surprise & tension. Really enjoyed this one. Dev threw a few fastball's as with all good films & games "show, don't tell" always works...

Yeah Alife (games AI) & the X-ray engine doing what it does; AI spawns an Anomaly under a bus. Looks and sounds bad in reality the Zone, Anomalies, Mutants & NPC's all have a life of their own which is exactly what makes S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so very different to other games. No playthrough is ever the same, which is exactly why so many of us replay and or play the mod games. as surprises abound...:)

Stealth missions can be tough unless you have a strong stealth component. In Fallout 4, a very strong, unrealistic, supernatural level ;) stealthiness could be achieved where enemies would walk right by you if you were crouched.

In Cyberpunk 2077, there was a mission to place a transponder on a vehicle in a shipping container, in a store yard along the docks without engaging patrols. The fast moving buffs I normally depended on to fight did not really apply here so I ended up sitting at critical points and waiting to see a pattern, then progressed. The worst is the first time in, however honestly I don’t remember if the game put an X on the map to indicate where I needed to go or if I had to look around.

This sounds like a cake walk compared to what you describe. :)

Challenging in a good way, yet frustrating until you figure it out :) I relied completely on ambient light as even the NVG makes a slight noise and if the power runs out your done...

I posted much the same on the R3 Discord server;
  • Head to the junk pile outside the southern rear left hand corner of the Military outpost.
  • Jump up on the junk pile then to the outhouse roof, now jump to the barracks roof, crouch and enter the hole in the roof.
  • Drop down the square access hole in the ceiling (low crouch, no lights, no NVG) grab the case & sneak out the main door.
  • Head out the door turn right back to the outhouse.
  • The difficult part...
  • You need a silenced weapon.
  • Take out the auto sentry at the end of the barracks opposite side to where you entered (south building end), It's between the barracks & BTR-70.
  • Next head back the way you came to the barracks door (north building end). Use the outhouse as cover from the patrolling soldier. Take out the 2nd auto sentry situated back and to the right of the barracks door.
  • If your lucky you can then make it across the courtyard, run up the external stairs of the other building and drop down the outside wall of the outpost and slip off into the night.
  • Return to Sidorovich with the goods, we're done :)
Now I get it, this really an enjoyable & rewarding stealth scenario in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It was frustrating getting nowhere fast, yes you can go full on Rambo and slaughter all the soldier's. As a result the mission giver wont deal with you on multiple levels :( For me it was about the challenge and completion on my end. Just took time & thought. When you crack it definitely a WOW moment as you feel that you have truly earned the win.

In many respect's STALKER is the opposite of Fallout 4 as the game demands a high level of player engagement. R3 more so, there is spawn menu which can help if totally stuck. I've avoid it barring when being Zombified as the soundscape has an adverse effect on me. So I will spawn in the artefact the scientist's need to cure me. I guess also reflects R3's vastly improved audio. Weapons sound great and you can really sense their impact.

CP 2077 - Just a joke game CDPR sold out & lost their path, one of the biggest disappointments in gaming history. Burned their credibility on a shallow looter shooter with a weak storyline to work with a Hollyweird star. Worse CDPR deliberately lied and misled it's customers and shareholders. The game is a mere husk of what was alluded, what a waste of an IP  As said the best of CDPR's talent quit after Witcher 3 blew up due to the management's greed & unwillingness to share profit...

Try R3, no micro management here like Anomaly just strong gameplay in a very believable & harsh world....

Lab-X16 - A return visit to rescue a scientific team, all lost to the Zone but one. Very much a serve & protect mission...

Lab is cleared out so safe to screen cap. On the initial assault hands are way too full dealing with the hordes of mutants that infest the lab.
1654228648262.png

Verticality is a thing here, naturally we need to exit the lab via the very top of the complex...
1654228746568.png

It's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so weirdness abounds, what else to expect from the Zone LOL...
1654228809781.png

Next up assault the Radar which is traditionally a Monolith stronghold  Yet to see any of this faction, judging R3's difficulty level will be one very tough nut to crack...

Far Cry 2 Realism+ (Complete v2) Enhanced Texture Pack & Looking pretty decent for a 14 year old game and Far Cry
This YT is for v2.1, latest release is v2.7 with further improvements & fixes to the base game.

I didn't opt for the reshade and what I like about the mod is that there is a lot of customisation available to the player during installation; save style, navigation style etc.

Traveling with my game meager MBP (sig) and iPad, I’ve been exploring tank games in the Mac App and iOS Stores. What I’ve found are a great number of shallow freemium titles, free to download, but $$ to be competitive. I suppose they could be fun for some, but for the constant pressure to subscribe to premium account features, and mostly they are blatant pay to win. Premium tanks which are purchased have substantially better specs and (depending on the game) and they can’t be purchased without a subscription (X Devs publisher has a couple of them, Grand Tanks, Modern Tanks).

By virtue of smaller maps, tanks that actually handle like tanks, and mostly no hit zones (all hits do damage for most of these games), gameplay is simplistic and arguably appropriate for iOS, but I noticed if you can find a game like Modern Tanks that has a MacOS version, in any 1v1 duels, using keyboard and mouse, you will slaughter anyone playing with iOS screen controls, just circle outrunning their turret rotation and pew pew them until they explode. If you play WoT, you will have experienced with this kind of situation in a light vs heavy tank 1v1 duel. Light tanks there have the advantage for this specific situation.

iOS screen controls are not ideal Imo, left thumb to move and turn tank, other thumb to rotate turret. Fortunate many/most of these games have an auto target lock on feature.

One exception to the “gold $$” pay-to-win tank game in the Mac/iOS realm is Infinite tanks. Not great, but better than the average iOS Tank game, it’s $4.99, no gold purchases required. It also has AI scenarios and campaign, and you can configure your own tanks. The problem with this title, it has a very small to non-existent online community. At one point I saw 7 players waiting to play, or playing a match, most other times no one. See more individual tank comments in the dedicated Best Tank Game thread.

Not remotely interested in the freemium titles, as I far prefer to purchase outright. I don't have an iPad, I do however have a W10 tablet, albeit a lowly i3 with 4GB RAM yet I can play some of best titles from the past. My favourite being Quake runs fluidly and looks spectacular on the 2K display.

In many respects the Acer Switch 5 is one of the best computing product's I've ever purchased as it punches well above it's weight, packs a lot of tech and cost less than $600 with local taxes.

Area 51 (2005)
Lot of fun with a good bit of tongue in cheek :) Area 51 isn't a very difficult or long game, another that's now free to play and been patched & updated for the 2020's thx to dedicated fans.

Lot more fun than I expected. The dev team really uses the Area 51 setting and has a lot of fun with it. TBH that's probably the biggest draw of the game. Has big name Hollywood voice actors and even Marilyn Manson o_O Kind of makes me think of early HALO, with a lesser storyline and a better sense of humour...:)

Personally I prefer to play the more classic Doom 3 experience with the brightness turned fully down. This with the tweaked game engines get's you right back into horror survival and if that's not your thing, just up the in game brightness and treat D3 as a shooter :)

Latest update to the mod impresses, tidying up the smallest details. Reason why dev's keep such games alive is Gameplay and a lot of studios today could learn from that. I've also got Doom 3 RBDoom 3 BFG running natively on my M1 MBP at full resolution. Game looks great for it's age and plays flawlessly

Doom 3 is one of my favourite's, nor a push over by any means. After all these years I'm still drawn to the game...:)

Checking out Necromunda: Hired Guns which is a Doom'esque FPS with Mad Max theme. Nice artwork and good value for ~$16 if you shop around. No motion sickness nor performance issue here with mid range PC with 6800 dGPU.

One of the very few to get the 40K universe right in the 3D realm. I've played their interpretation of Space Hulk, not as bad as some would say. While very much having a board game focus, I still thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay and loved the graphics & level design. At the harder levels this game is a really challenging play, if you get the lore you'll understand why. If you want completion be well prepared...

I liked D3 up to the end game boss which was very formulaic to defeat. As with many boss fights, they feel structured, artificial because… they are! ;)

I like D3 and sometimes just play the stock game. Admittedly the source ports have come on a long way and the only solution for modern Mac's (64bit & M1/2). D3 is more about the journey than the culmination like many others. I find the game similar to Alien Isolation & Dead Space where you are drawn deeply into the game world.

The good with D3 is that you have choice; either the original or the BFG edition with source ports for both. Personally I don't see that the games lack or are inferior to one another. They just present a slightly differing style of gameplay.

Right now playing a source port of D3 BFG, equally getting the itch to revisit the more horror survival focus of the original D3 as I'm into the horror vibe...
