Also guilty of being a flash game die-hard...

Not a big gamer anymore, but I'll fire up WoW and AoE3 via Parallels if I have a bit of free time.

Portal 2 and WoW. WoW on my MacBook Pro just to do housekeeping stuff and low level dungeons. Serious gaming is done on my desktop though.

I used my Mac for many things but … Gaming on my Mac book-Pro was an experience of a lifetime.
I played Call of duty 4 Modern Warfare like never before, it was a really serious change over, and the graphic in the game looked like anything I have ever seen.
And that was the pivotal moment for my Mac book –Pro, kept going with Sims 3 generations, Dragon Age, Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars.
Now I am into World of War craft to top it off.
I am just hoping such devotion to my Mac book-Pro would not strain on my relationship with other PC’s.. he he … ;)

Since my first post my gaming has gone down to pretty much Civilization IV and Warcraft 3. Nice to see this thread still getting replies every once in a while:)

If you like Imperial Glory, try out any of the Total War series:
Rome Total War
Medieval Total War 2
Napoleon Total War
Empire Total War
Shogun Total War 2

I've tried Imperial Glory and find it clunky in comparison to the Total War series.

Best series of games in the world!!!

MBP:
- ROme Total War,
- Warcraft 3,
- Oblivion
- Age of Empires 2 & 3
- portal 2
- GTA San andreas
- need for speed underground
- CoD 1
- CoD 4
- CoD 5 WaW (boocamp)
- Ghost Recon 1, with heroes unleashed mod (bootcamp). <--- all time fav.

Games in the Mac App Store

I know that you can get your games anywhere, but are there any advantages to buying a game in the Mac App Store versus Not buying a game in the Mac App Store?

Also, what if the same game is offered in the Mac App Store and also not in the Mac App store? Obviously price always is a driving factor, but beyond that what are some of the pros and cons?

  • Patches are smaller (maybe 40MB instead of GB's) if you buy them outside the AppStore.
  • Patches are released quicker as you don't have to wait for Apple.
  • AppStore you can always re-download
  • AppStore you don't need to remember a serial just your user account.
  • Expansion Packs don't exist in the AppStore

Those are a few of the big points pro and con. Some will go away in the future as the App Store improves like delta patches (smaller size) and expansion packs will come to the App Store as some point in the future.

Thanks for the detailed answer! Yes, I am also hoping the App Store improves!
