If you like Imperial Glory, try out any of the Total War series:
Rome Total War
Medieval Total War 2
Napoleon Total War
Empire Total War
Shogun Total War 2

I've tried Imperial Glory and find it clunky in comparison to the Total War series.

Hey, you're cheating, :eek: these aren't available for Mac yet, except for Rome Total War. So you have to use BootCamp or Parallel, and they're hardware demanding.

I agree that Imperial Glory is a disappointing experience; at first it's fine, but you get quickly bored. Still OK to play once in a while, though. Too bad they didn't improve it.

My current Mac games otherwise:
* Command & Conquer Generals, Zero Hour
* Civilization 2 (Classic Mac OS 9)
* Imperialism 2 (Classic Mac OS 9)
* Age Of Empires 2
* Civilization 4
* Rome Total War
* Age of Empires 3
All running fine from a 2008 MacBook on a 20" screen.

Going to pick up the mac native Borderlands soon. Was hoping to get it cheaper but its still about £30. Not sure how well it would work on my iMac with 2.4ghz and radeon 2600. I might pick up the native version of Assassins Creed 2 as well as Broken Sword :)

One of our QA guys finished the game loads of times on a iMac with the low end 2400 card which is slower than the one you have. You won't have everything on maximum settings with that older Mac but you will have a great time :)

Thanks for the reply. Will give it a go this weekend :)

I'm a big fan of Blizzard games so on my list you'll find a lot of them ;)

here it goes :

- World of Warcraft (not so much anymore though, usually I get a couple of months membership during our cold canadian winter)
- Starcraft 2
- Warcraft 3
- Diablo 2 (though I kind of stopped playing when Blizz announced D3)
- Day of Defeat : Source (to calm my nerves with a few frags after a long day)
- Civilization V (I kind of preferred CIV4 though...)
- Age of Empires 3

I like to keep up with the games (read Blizzard) I love but the truth is I have less and less time to game...It's mostly a week-end hobby/fun ! :D

All those games run quite well on my early 2008 MPB...but obviously not at max settings...

Dragon Age II
Diablo III - When it's finally released!!!

Turns my iMac 27" into a toaster!
Still fun to play.

I finished Prey last night.

Holy crap what a stupid game! It had the dumbest plot I have ever played through. It came out in 2004/5 but feels like a 1997 game.

Runs really good though, so the port is fine.

Starting Splinter Cell Conviction today.

I am playing quite a bit right now on my 27in iMac, and catching up after years of being lost inside World of Warcraft.

Native:
Two Worlds 2
Borderlands
Civ 5
Misc, SNES, PSX, and Genesis games through emulation.

Through Parallels 6 running a Windows 7 vm with 4GB mem dedicated to it.
Borderlands (windows version to play with my friends as no one wants to load Game ranger 1600x1400). Medium detail.
Oblivion - Runs great, high detail lots of customizations.
Fallout 3 - Runs great again
A handful of GOG games.
Baldurs Gate 2
XIII

I have plans to game more through the VM on older and try some newer type stuff within reason. I really love just keeping it within a space and having OSX rocking on for me at the foundation.

There are some titles from Ambrosia Software that I really miss, and wish could be had on an Intel mac running 10. Mars Rising, Maelstrom, Barrack, and EV Override were some of my favorites from OS9 days. Now on the rare occasion I get a hankering for a video game, I just go down and use my son's Xbox or Wii.

There was a legitimately sanctioned GPL'ed copy of Maelstrom for various O.S. platforms, including OSX. The original site appears to be down but you can download prebuilt binaries of the game here. Parts of the mirror site appear to be broken so I can't find the source code and GPL license that are supposed to be included with it there. It appears there's an RPM file for linux you can possibly extract the original source from here and though I'm not completely sure, I'm of the strong persuasion it was originally licensed under version 2.0 of the GPL. When I can, I'll check to see if I have everything bundled on the HDD of my old, broken computer later to be sure.

If it's of any consolidation Escape Velocity: Override also lives on via a Port Authority Total Conversion for Escape Velocity Nova available as an Add-on at Ambrosia's site, albeit you need to register Nova and P.A. isn't a direct 1:1 port thanks to differences in the Nova engine.

Also just to remain on topic, a list of other natively compatible games I recall playing on my 2008 24" 2.8gzh iMac at some point before it (physically) crashed, alongside some notes:

PacTheManX
Escape Velocity Nova
Braid (Wonderful time manipulation 2D platformer with puzzles)
Neverball
Aquaria (Plays beautifully with an arcade style joystick, if you get the hang of tricking out the diagonals.)
Mechanarium
Penumbera Overature
Frozen Bubble
Osmos
Samorost 2
Cortex Command (The controls were way too finicky for my tastes though)
Portal (Valve SteamGiveaway Edition)
The Battle for Wesnoth (An earlier work done in large part by some of the Frogatto people)
Frogotto
Demios Rising
World of Goo
Lagaru HD
Cave Story
Unreal Tournament 2004
Sketchfighter 3000

There are probably lots more but I can't think of them for the life of me at the moment.
