Hi guys

Just wondering: Will gaming in OS X ever be as good as gaming in Windows (FPS and overall speed-wise)? I'm asking because I've never experienced any crashes or something the like with my MBP. To days ago I installed Windows 7 through boot camp and now it has crashed like 6 times. Would be nice if games were actually playable in OS X natively?

Sorry if this has been asked before

/consults crystal ball

Really though, no one knows. The drivers are there but Apple don't seem to be taking advantage, given time the gap could close though.

I seriously doubt that's a problems with Windows. Otherwise Apple will get sued if everyone gets this. You prolly downloaded or visited sites that installed crap on your computer or something.

DirectX is graphics technology that is specifically designed for gaming in mind so devs cater to that to give their games the best bang. OpenGL is...well...open. There's not as much proprietariness in open stuff so ppl don't have as much motive to improve it as much as Window$. And devs don't have a huge "mac gamer market" to be as concerned with it.

Also, don't forget that OSX is really a slight mod of "unix" type OSes. It's OLD, even though it's a newer release of it. Modern gaming was not what AT&T scientists and engineers had in mind when they designed it. Windows has a billion dollar budget to "consumerize" part of the OS for games. Heck, they even have their own gaming system do bet their name on.

Civilization 4, Left 4 Dead 1 & 2. Thinking about getting Civilization 5 but I haven't seen anybody running it on a 13in MacBook on OSX, only windows 7.

I'm kinda on the fence there.

I'm so proud of this thread, it's survived four months and still gets randomly posted on :D

Mostly Prefer to play following games:

World of Warcraft
Civilization IV
Lego Star Wars
Starcraft II
The Sims 3

I play exactly NONE of the games anyone's mentioned so far.

Instead, I prefer making my own games using the Eclipse meta-platform and Java 6 (I know, Java isn't exactly the first thing you think of when it comes to games). Here's a list of what I've made so far:
  • Maze Runner (a maze game)
  • Dungeon Diver (infinite dungeon RPG)
  • Fantastle (follow-up to Maze Runner)
  • Worldz (RPG built off of Fantastle that never got anywhere)
  • Mazer5D (follow-up to Fantastle)
  • LaserTank (port of a Windows game by the same name)
  • ... and my latest project, the Darkstone Family (unrelated to the Darkstone game for the PS1; open-ended RPG; spiritual successor to Worldz).

I played all these games on my Mac.

Age of Empires 3
Rise of Nations
Team Fortress 2
Altitude
Counter Strike
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
FlatOut 2
World of Goo
Peggle
Diablo 2
Unreal 2004
Enemy Territory: Wolfenstein

I have a nice collection of games for Mac, but they are the ones that I play when I have time Please note that all residents, except Baldur's Gate, which is managed by Crossover.

Bioshock
Civ IV:BtS
Baldur's Gate Tutu
Sid Meiers: Pirates (thanks Feral!)
Killing Floor
Amnesia
Dragon Age: Origins

I have a MBP and I'm usually not at my desk so the amount of games I can play is small (FPS on a touchpad? No thanks)

So my current list is:

Braid.

Hi guys,

Just wondering. For those of you that play/have played Starcraft 2 on specifically a Macbook or Macbook Pro, what has the experience been like? How well does it run for the "low end" models?

When I get my mac, it will only be Starcraft 2 that I play... at least I don't anticipate to be playing any other games haha.

Thanks!

- Half Life 2
- Bioshock
- Rome Total War

Although i did test OnLive for Mac too. Not a bad service if your line is fast enough.

Plants vs Zombies- The first video game I've played since Super Nintendo.

If anyone knows anything similar, let him peak now or forever hold your peace.

that game was incredibly fun lol. for such a cheesy concept i had a great time on it.

Not BioShock. The keyboard layout is whack.

The Option key picks up stuff and there's no way to change it in the keyboard options.
Then it tells me I need a mouse with right click.

(but I'm not a gamer, I'm a noob.)

Braid
Angry Birds
Minecraft
Sims 3
Super Meat Boy
Sauerbraten Cube 2
Plants VS Zombies

I mostly game on my PS3 so I don't buy games for computer which are also for PS3.

(besides Sims, the sims series suck on consoles)

You can customise all your keys in the options menu on the main/pause menu.

You don't NEED a two button mouse but playing with a single button mouse will be harder than playing with a two button mouse. Most new Apple mice will support two buttons although they are not the greatest gaming mice.

Option is the secondary control for "E" or the Use button. You can set this to something else if you wish in the Pause Menu Options->Customise Controls->Customise Keys->Misc section
