@Macbookprodude That's your call, not ours. If it ends up working well for you, then you have your stopgap solution. And if it doesn't, then you'll just have to order your replacement right away instead.

Can I use tape to tape the right hinge ? Seller told me the screen stands up and is stable, but want to know as a precaution can I use tape to reinforce until I can order a new hinge ?

I Will put my SSD I have in the G4 Pismo inside this thing. Except for the right hinge, it’s in great shape - all for 84 dollars.
Finally, does anyone have the original discs for this ? I am after OS 9. Jaguar while nice, is useless to me. I will put Leopard on this - also it has 1MB L3 cache - maybe this might be faster than the 7447A/B processor, as it has the 7455 MDD like G4.
Nice find. The 1 GHz Tibooks are my favorite Apple products and mine is a joy to use.
Thanks ! The only thing that is wrong with it is the left hinge.. an easy fix but the rest works great - battery has less than 65 uses.

The display wasn't showing any signs of going bad before this, so this took me by surprise. Only thing I can think of is that the display cable has come loose over time since I put the iBook back together after the optical drive upgrade I did a while back. Either that or I somehow damaged the cable when I put the iBook back together. I've used the iBook quite a few times since I performed surgery on it and the display was working fine until today. Weird.
I haven't decided yet. Not having a working built-in display kind of defeats the purpose of having a laptop, the iBook is basically like a Mac Mini now. So, I probably should open it up and try and see if reseating would work. On the other hand, I remember how much of a pain iBooks are to work on and I think to myself, "is having a 'Mac Mini G3' so bad?"
The more I think about it...I probably will end up opening this darned thing again, lol.

Spent the past week trying to fix my 5th gen iPod, so i've needed by 15" G4 Powerbook. It's the most powerful Mac I own and runs the most recent version of os x compared to my other machines.
Just installed foxpep, so will see if that will allow me to use wordpress again on my laptop. Then I can write an article about the RaspberryPi powered Classic I've built.

It's worth mentioning the CPU is forcibly underclocked to 1 GHz if the battery is dead or missing.
My 4,1 also suffers from this but I don't need full performance for what I'm doing with it.
oooof, seriously? Is this the same with the 5,2? I might swap the two batteries if not then.
Will it still underclock with a 5,2? That's my biggest concern. I don't need 2.4 GHz on my other MacBook, but it'd be nice to have.
Yep, seriously. I believe all MacBooks do this. If you want full power, put in a battery.
I had this problem once - I just can't remember if this actually solved it but check the archive and read the instructions about reversing the process carefully before proceeding.
