I've only ever really experienced 7.6.1 as well. I have done a lot of other research though.Got 4/7 - my only experience with Seven has been 7.6.1 in Basilisk II.
NOTHING will ever have the amount of personality as OS 9 has though...You should see them running MorphOS. It's FAST and puts os9 to shame. Internal sound and wifi works, no cursor freezes, 2020 webkit based browser, and more games than you can shake a stick at.
So I'm about 75% of the way through Parasite Eve now. What a great game... I have one boss I keep dying at so far until I have to disc swap mid game, hope I can pull this trick off! I ordered a PSX Change version 2 disc on Amazon which makes the swap trick very easy (just one swap and the disc stops for you!) but of course it doesn't work on a game like Parasite Eve when it makes you insert disc 2 mid game and not just let you do it at boot...I think it was actually 5 swaps now. But this was so rewarding. UNMODIFIED 1997 Playstation. Only have one game I bought for $10. Have 100 Verbatim CD-Rs to burn using the Mac mini G4. Since I first did this trick successfully I have been playing my favorite Playstation 1 game Parasite Eve, have not turned off the Playstation since doing the trick. Unfortunately I will have to perform the same trick mid game! About 75% of the way through Parasite Eve, you have to change to Disc 2 without any save option. I have faith tho, and seeing that Verbatim CD-R burned by the mini speed up is like nothing else. I did this for the challenge I read about on the internet lol.
Oh man that was a great game. It's wild to think that Square made this game, it feels so unlike a lot of their library from that era. What's more wild is that it started life as Final Fantasy 8. I'm not actually sure how it got connected to the book it's a sequel to, but that took place in Japan, not America. So I'm about 75% of the way through Parasite Eve now. What a great game... The final boss is literally insane as well, this will definitely take me some time to finish! Hardest game I've ever played in my life just because of the final boss. Even the sequel's final boss was easier.
Wow A fellow fan on MacRumors PPC! I keep dying at the scopian boss when it splits into multiple bugs in the subway. I actually had no idea about the Chrysler Building... I definitely will check this out this play through. My favorite level is the museum on Disc 2, fighting T-Rex is very fun. But that final boss, took me way too long to finish this game the first time. Literally insane, just keeps coming back from the dead and then you have to fight the ultimate being? Brutal, last time I finished I had like 56 HP IIRC.Oh man that was a great game. It's wild to think that Square made this game, it feels so unlike a lot of their library from that era. And once you beat it, there's a New Game+ and a whole different ending if you can beat the Chrysler Building. I've never actually managed to do that, myself. But if you crave more once you're done, there's more to beat.
Oh, be prepared to actually run after you beat that last boss. You're not actually done when you think you are. I was a huge fan of jrpgs growing up, and while I never really feel the urge to revisit it these days, Parasite Eve still lives in my head rent free. I mean, seriously, what else is like it? The story isn't the usual kind of thing that comes out of Japanese game devs, but it takes itself far to serious than it would if it was American. And the gameplay has a good enough flow to it that you just want to play more.Wow A fellow fan on MacRumors PPC! I actually had no idea about the Chrysler Building... doES irc WORK ANYMORE ?Got 4/7 - my only experience with Seven has been 7.6.1 in Basilisk II.
I am in pure disbelief. Parasite Eve says "Insert Disc 2". I remove my burned Verbatim CD-R from my Playstation for the first time since starting this game from the beginning. I put in my only legit PS1 game Driver. Remove my aluminum foil rod (which presses down the lid sensor button). Insert it again so the PS 1 thinks the lid is closed. Driver starts spinning. Then, Driver starts spinning fast. Swap it immediately with Parasite Eve Disc 2, freshly burned in the Mac mini G4. Before I can even continue with the trick, the Playstation goes ERRR and starts reading the Parasite Eve Disc 2 burned on the Verbatim CD-R! So much easier then the normal swap trick at boot. I'm in the clear and can complete the game now!Oh, be prepared to actually run after you beat that last boss. You're not actually done when you think you are. PayPalEven if I like it, how would I pay for it since its in Europe ?
I know this has been beaten to death (and I respect their decisions on pricing) but I wish the license was slightly less expensive. At 50 bucks a pop I'd buy one just for the fun.You should see them running MorphOS.
Way I understand it, even as it is, it's pretty much the cheapest way to get into the modern Amiga scene. Yeah, sure, it's not technically the Amiga OS, but it's mostly binary compatible. But compared to the fairly wild PPC systems specifically built to run later versions of the Amiga OS, and the cost of the software, this is actually a deal. No to mention, MorphOS is an option for real Amiga hardware, so it's not just any old clone.I know this has been beaten to death (and I respect their decisions on pricing) but I wish the license was slightly less expensive. Yeah, but this isn't my primary goal. More of a nice bonus.Way I understand it, even as it is, it's pretty much the cheapest way to get into the modern Amiga scene.
That's a good way of seeing it. Unfortunately I can't really go out for dinner due to the lockdown.Yeah I thought that too, but then I realized when the wife and I go out, we spend that amount on food and drinks for one evening of fun. For the same amount I bought a license key and can have fun forever.
NoToo many Macs.... or is that even possible?
No, I get you. It's not like I've ponied up the, what, 80 euros for the privilege? If I was into the Amiga scene, maybe that would make some sense, but it sure doesn't at the moment.Yeah, but this isn't my primary goal. More of a nice bonus.
TBH, the one hour of full performance is actually generous, considering the Amiga scene almost never gives anything you really need away for free. I get why it's like that, it would probably be dead without the money being involved. Not that I'm saying it's right for every community, nor do I think it's a good way to welcome new people in. Putting money into things can cause all kinds of problems if the community it's in doesn't traditionally involve money.Indeed, the price does make sense for anyone that is already into the Amiga scene. But is not convincing for someone who isn't, but is curious about it. I think we can agree on that.
It's half an hour. I'd much rather have e.g. a time-unlimited live CD that refuses to install to and boot from anything else until you purchase a license. But it's their baby.TBH, the one hour of full performance is actually generous, considering the Amiga scene almost never gives anything you really need away for free.
Oh wow, last I'd really checked it out, they were lacking a good modern web browser. Clearly that has changed.I used to think that way, until I actually installed the demo. It boots faster than the length of time it takes open firmware to load. I also had a c64 and amiga2000 back in the day, but it wasn't about that. It was the fact that even though Linux is nice, morph made the old mini come to life. What's even more impressive is that the wayfarer browsers main dev has a video on YouTube showing a 1.5ghz mini doing 720p YouTube in browser without breaking a sweat.
I gave it a try on a 1.33 GHz 12" iBook G4 and was also nothing short of amazed by its sheer speed. And considering how much we used to pay for a Mac OS X or Windows license, it isn't that expensive. It's just that I probably wouldn't use it often enough to justify the price.I used to think that way, until I actually installed the demo.
