What's theme site to download Aqua Extreme? All of the links I've seen are for maxthemes.org, which is sadly dead.

I also just stumbled on the download for an older version of Crystal Clear which cites compatibility with OS X 10.6 to 10.7.3. It should be fine with 10.7.5...right?
Well damn. Site has gone offline.

Last Wayback machine backup has all links however: https://web.archive.org/web/20221224162530/https://obsidianmenubar.com/

That's Obsidian Menu Bar for 10.7, 10.8 & 10.9 and Aqua Extreme for 10.5 and 10.6.

If it works on 10.7.3, then it should work with .5.

any spinning ball using High Sierra?
that OS X hated my macbook air 2010 4GB in 2017-18.
I'm having new ElCapitan issues recently with safari and other websites in 2023
and thinking of installing Sierra
No beachballs here but the CPUs in these are a lot faster than the 2010s so that may be a factor. Granted I’m not doing much beyond Firefox/Discord/Pages (which I remembered was an option after I posted last night).

Today I started playing around with some Snow Leopard themes.
So that it didn't take too much time, I started with:
- Stock Aqua
- Aqua Inspirat
- Metallik
- SnowTunes
- SnowTunes HUD
- SnowTunes Noir

Can't decide on which one I like the most!

I'm a huge fan of Aqua Inspirat, though I do like the menu bar on SnowTunes. Not sure whether I like Metallik or not.

Used my 2011 MBP as a Thunderbolt-to-FireWire bridge to clone an installation from my 2007 MBP to my 2013 MBP. Cloning was performed using the 2011, with the 2007 and 2013 being in Target Disk Mode. I noticed a FireWire TDM disk shows up as "AAPL FireWire Target" whereas a Thunderbolt TDM disk shows up using its original name.

[2007 MBP] <- FireWire -> [2011 MBP] <- Thunderbolt -> [2013 MBP]

I done some more tinkering on the MBP 17 inch (running 10.6.8 SL, it's still running well and a wonderful machine to tinker about on, and experiment with), even today. I love the aesthetic, and the fact that it still has a fair amount of support for older applications. Yes, it isn't perfect, but it's a nice OS to have fun with.

I checked my email using Thunderbird , and then I decided to go to iTunes. I forgot that you could view an image of what was now playing in the bottom left hand corner (it's a cool feature if you want to use the mini player, to be honest):

Yeah, my music collection is growing. I think they're all albums and mostly reggaeton. I need to get some more songs. My iTunes Library on my iMac running Mojave has like 2200 songs.

I also installed Bitlbee Discord Client on LimeChat (yes, this is meant to be for Leopard but it actually runs well on SL on an Intel Mac as well). Still figuring out how to use that one, and I am reading the manuals. It's running well:

I am trying to run an old version of Steam, which keeps coming up with an network error. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix that, or any other old apps that still run in SL, you can hit me up here. I'll probably give them a go, if it's not too much effort. I would LOVE an app that lets you use Discourse forums, but I think that's never gonna happen for OLD Snow Leopard, lol.

IRC still going strong, a tech that just refuses to die. It's unkillable.

Yeah it works well on SL. I run it myself. If you want images to display in discord / limechat you'll need to install @Wowfunhappy 's legacy proxy on Snow Leopard. Also disable "show joins/parts" in limechat's prefs to eliminate some clutter and/or use my limechat theme also for a more natural discord look.

I'm really glad that the client is able to run on SL, and I thank you for making this possible. I wasn't too sure if it would run or not because it's made for PPC. And thank you for pointing those extras out, I will do those things when I use the client again.

There is a work-a-round on the Pale Moon forums. Just requires a browser extension and a code snippet.
Seems to work fine in SpiderWeb and InterWeb. Look at the bottom left corner of screenshot.
I've also attached a modified .xpi of the extension so that it will install on SpiderWeb.

Thank you once again. I will download the add-on and try it out on Spider Web as well. Can you send messages on it, or is it just for posting on the forums?

Dug my 06 iMac out of the closet, installed an SSD (original drive was getting noisy) and Snow Leopard. Tweaked it up, installed macports, legacy mac proxy, and sheepshaver as well. Great for old PPC stuff, flash games, classic games, youtube, logic/mulab, image editing, etc etc. It is now a fun machine once again. :apple:

For those who don't want to risk installing an entire theme, i'm using MenuBarFilter for the black menu bar. I've attached it below. Just add it to your account login startup items.

Edit: Just noticed it didn't change the machine name in XRG. Still says macmini. heh.

Unsuccessfully jerked around with a tattiebogle 360 driver on Lion- kinda stuck as I think an earlier v8 of the tattie driver is the ticket, however I can’t figure out how to uninstall v11 LOL in order to downgrade the driver.

I did successfully get the 360 clone joystick working on El cap with the 360Controller 1.0.0-alpha.6 driver & retroarch on my 08 MacBook, so I was able to verify the JS works.

It is a very nice unit for a clone.

Going down Highway 1 ...

Installed OCLP_Monterey side by side with Dosdude1's PatchedMojave onto my late'08 aluminum Unibody 13"MB5,1.
When it comes to speed and performance (and 32bit-Support) Mojave is my favorite macOS for early Intels.
But I was quite surprised about the performance of Vanilla Monterey on that old machine, though Maps- and TV-App didn't work. The MacBook also worked at it's limit with fans running more than 50% of the time.
So far I'll keep Monterey only as a test-drive on the Core2Duos ...

MB2008.png

But I also happend to install OCLP Monterey on a late-intel mid2012 15" 2,3GHz 8MB RAM MBP9,1 which runs at an amazing speed and performs great. So far no lack of functions and the machine doesn't run hot with only moderate fan activity.
Great prospects to keep the mid2012 15"MBP9,1 still for a looong time running as my daily driver with the option for growing SSD-size, maybe DualSSD and multiboot-configuration. It's also amazing, these machines also come with antiglare 1680≈1050 high-res displays.
Next thing will be a test-drive of OCLP_Ventura on a second partition of that very machine.

Down Highway1.png

Edit: arrived at Ventura last night. Installation was a bit of a bumpy ride but performance is quite decent!
Only drawback: BassJump-Subwoofer kicked the bucket 😢 (So far sync of internal speakers and HomePod didn't lag) Another 5-6 years of support granted to that good old machine. Many thanks to the OCLP-team!!!

Welcome To Ventura.png

Scraping the edge of early Intel here for sure, but it got cutoff at the same time the late C2D stuff did.

I wanted tinyputer, which meant an 11" Air, something I never had previously. Waffled a lot on which model to get when I came across this 2011 for a reasonable price, in the top spec config (also has the 256GB SSD).

I think, for now at least, I'll leave it on High Sierra - pushing HD3000 much past Catalina doesn't seem to be worth it, and 10.13 to 10.15 isn't much of a benefit for what I hope to use as a light writing/browsing/Discord machine.

So today was spent getting it all updated and charged, and now I'm getting the SW loaded I need (good thing I keep my old iStat Menus serials, since 5.x works fine here).

Not wild about LibreOffice so far since I prefer Word, but 365 doesn't support this far back, so I'll probably just deal with it.
Re: Office 365. If you track down the installer of an old version of Office 365 you can use it. Here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252436336

I've seen a few themes in the last page or two concerning Snow Leopard Macs.

So, I will just share, Black Mac OS X.

Note, this download also includes Candybar with a Black Gloss dock and system icons and Magnifique for the theme. Both apps still run on SL Macs. I'm using it on my 17" MBP as it still works.

Same theme as on my 17" PowerBook G4. Original thread here:

Unlike with the PowerBook though, with Intel Macs you can use XtraFinder to get dark window backgrounds if you want to go that route.

With Magnifique? I'm surprised that it would work on SL!

Also, I have seen Black "Noir" themes for SL that do make everything dark, including the Finder window and such. I'll see whether I can track it down again. DeviantArt search is not what it used to be.
Yeah, it works. It 'whines' about some Applescript error, but just click okay or whatever button it pops up and it still functions.

some Applescript error
That error is because the theme library server is down (and has been down for years), it also happens on Leopard.

Unlike ShapeShifter and ThemePark, Magnifique required the app to "phone home" to a server which contained all of the theme plugins available. Obviously once the server shut down, it took 90% of all Leopard-compatible themes along with it.
