Thinking of upgrading my iPhone X to an 11 Pro, but if improvements are largely related to the camera, I'll likely be holding off another year for the 11S, marking the first time I've gone more than 2 years between upgrades since before the first iPhone.

Will likely be upgrading my wife to the 2019 XR replacement because she just shattered the screen and True Depth sensor on her X, and Apple wants $549 to replace it. AppleCare+, here we come!

2 years is nothing for an iPhone. Hell even the iPhone 8 is just getting in to its prime, especially after iOS 13.

And AppleCare+ is a great idea for these expensive phones.

I've got a launch day 8+ in pristine condition with battery still in very good condition. I have no plans to upgrade this year. With the cost of iPhones these days, I want to hang on to it for a while as it's paid off. Still a fantastic phone.

This is probably very true - my 7 Plus is still as lovely as the day I got it. But, as you say, AppleCare+ is a great idea (I got it) but it only lasts for 2 years. Before I would upgrade before it ran out so it wasn't an issue, but now I wonder what people do after that... do you stop caring as much? Is there some secret alternative that you can get? I've been trying not to care as much and just treat it the same way I have until now, with respect, but am still curious.

Launch day iPhone X, 256GB. Honestly indecisive at the moment, as this year is the interval year in which I would normally upgrade.

My phone is beginning to lag and the battery is at 85% capacity. From everything that has come out regarding what to expect from this year's iPhone, it sounds underwhelming. It sounds like 2020 is going to bring a new design, but I tend to not jump in on the first generation of a new design and wait for the second iteration so that whatever bugs can be ironed out. Getting the X was the first time I did such a thing, as I had been on the "S" cycle phones prior.

All I can do is wait until the presentation on the 10th to make a decision.

I have the XS Max and this will be the first iPhone I haven’t upgraded. (My first iPhone was the 3G).

Same design again by the looks of it, getting bored of it now. Something radical and a major redesign would get my attention.

I have the XS I am perfectly content with it. I am just now catching up on what’s to come. Been about a year. I will only upgrade is one rumor I had heard months ago is true, which is one of the phones is going to be going down in size. If that’s not in option I’ll wait until 2020.

I've got a 7 Plus, I'm tempted to upgrade to the 11 S, but I really need to confirm first what the improvements are. I just bought an external battery case which will supplement the battery. Everything works, it's in excellent condition, so it's a matter of new features and functionality over stability!

7.

I upgrade every third year. Really want the red 11 this year, but if it doesn't have Night Mode I will have to dig deeper for the 11 Pro.

I recently bought an XR and am getting ~15hrs on a full battery - that’s as good my iPad used to be. So, as a battery/runtime geek....I think its a keeper.

It’s interesting that we’ve come to this point in time where the need to upgrade yearly has diminished, not just because of a perceived underwhelming new model release, but because older models are performing the tasks people want / need.

There certainly have been other years where I’ve thought that I didn’t need to upgrade, but speed increases, screen improvements and other incremental changes have made trading up worth while. With my X, I’m just not experiencing as many issues that would push me to upgrade, other than battery life and maybe screen size (my desire to go back to a plus sized version).

It will be interesting to see what Apple announces and I’ll decide then whether I upgrade.

I have an XR just under a year old so will be keeping that for at least another year. I figure that there is no value in upgrading to another iphone until 5G is available.

Have a 6s+ and it is still working fine, especially after replacing the battery. So it looks good to be stretched for another year. May have thought of upgrading if it did not get iOS 13 though.

I am waiting to see what is announced next week before deciding whether to upgrade my launch day X. The battery is still at 93% so it still has plenty of life in it. My wife’s 7 is about dead though so at least one of us will be upgrading next week.

7 Plus here, working mostly fine but the battery is now under 70% and needs to be replaced for €50, and the phone is starting to feel surprisingly laggy and glitchy. This lag has popped up rather suddenly though so I suspect a clean install might help.

Nevertheless I'm planning on getting an iPad Pro 11 and thus might want to shift to a smaller phone. So I'm most likely going to see if I can pick up a really cheap X or XS when prices drop during the coming month. Still might splurge on one of the new ones though, especially if they come out with improved low light camera capability. Would go for the Max version if it turns out to be Pencil compatible.

I guess my philosophy is this: I've had mine for nearly 2 years and have not had any issues with it thus far that required Apple Care. I've taken care of it the same way since the date of purchase. For that matter, every iPhone I've ever owned has been pretty much flawless at trade in. Mine lives in a case with glass screen protection and is pristine. I keep doing what I'm doing and if it fails or if it warrants Apple Care service then I'll weigh my options.

Same with my (though I have an iPhone SE). I got a new battery installed by Apple in Dec 2018.
The phone is running perfectly fine using iOS 12. Hoping iOS 13 runs just as well. No plans to upgrade for a few years yet.

Time travel! Now that’s a feature I’d update for ;)

I’ve been thinking of selling/trading in my XS Max for the XS. I like the XS Max but it’s just a bit too big for my me.plus I’d like mor GB. If the 8 had longer battery life I’d stick to that even.

DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm right with you saber32au, replaced my battery at the start of the year and will replace it again if need be.SE runs great and it's the perfect size unless you want to play games or watch video. Have iPad mini and air 2 for that.

So my thought is, if you’re willing to sell/trade your Max, now would actually be the time to do that, because there will be a large influx of 2018 devices that will be sold online in preparation for those who want to upgrade to the latest iPhone. If you have a back up device that you can fall back _if_ you try to sell your Max, that would be my suggestion, as the keynote obviously is quickly approaching.
