Just watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the 2011 remake.

It wasn't necessarily bad, and I liked how it covered some things in more depth (e.g. Lisbeths European tour towards the end :p). But the pace felt a bit more...brisk.

Not sure how I feel about the leads though. Nyqvist and Rapace did such a good job as Blomkvist and Salander that it's hard to see them re-imagined.

Glad it was a based on the book instead of the original film though.

I thought the story had the potential to be a blockbuster, however the movies are merely ok. Can't put my finger on it.

Science Fiction/Fantasy: Thor for the second time, thumbs up.

Horror: Game Change on HBO- the story of Sara Palin, gaack! I actually started feeling sorry for her, just a teensie weensie bit, but despite the lack of knowledge, her arrogance, an unmatched misplaced ego, my god...

The Muppets (2011)- Bad acting, so-so story, poor choreography, uninspired cameos, no where close to Muppet standards. Where is Jim Henson's spirit when you need it? :(

The Hunger Games. In case you haven't read the book/heard about the ending, then don't read this (if you read the book it won't matter really): I felt really bad (for the other people watching) because I couldn't stop laughing when Caito was about to die.

I avoided your spoiler... :) I'm going to rent this, then maybe read it if I am impressed.

Personally, I'd do the reverse. The book is written in the first person, and as such you're given the inner thoughts of the main character. One of the things I loved about the movie was seeing how these feelings were expressed without being explicitly stated. It was very well done.

The book is a short read (but a good one) - you could easily knock it out in a couple of hotel room nights while waiting for the movie to become available for rental. That said, five bucks says that after reading the book, you won't wait for the rental and instead head to a theater right away. ;)

Thanks. Maybe I'll read it first. :) I've noticed that in another narrative story, the Sookie Stackhouse books upon which Trueblood is based, so much is lost by not hearing the heroine's often humorous thoughts. In fact there is nothing humorous at all about Trueblood.

I thought it was okay. It was very... different. It was confusing for me, between all the different settings there were.

For anyone who has not seen it, this is one of those stylized "filmed in a warehouse" movies along the lines of Sin City or even 300 where most of the backdrop is CGI.

As far as the settings: A girl who accidentally kills her sister while trying to defend against their step father is placed in a mental institution where the inmates are all girls. spoiler>> Instead of the reality of the grimness of the place, she imagines they, the inmates, function basically as escorts to the important people that are brought in to be entertained. Additionally she comes up with a plan to escape which consists of acquiring various objects (map, key, lighter, knife). When she dances, the people who watch her are mesmerized/distracted allowing her friends to acquire the items (which appears to be reality). And while she dances, she imagines fantasy adventures with her friends to acquire the desired objects. <<end spoiler In the end, well, it's best if I don't tell. :)

What I don't get is if spoiler>> two of her friends were actually shot in the head <<end spoiler by the bad guy?

I just finished We Bought A Zoo, which I picked up earlier today. I thought of it more as a good family movie.

Just caught Sucker Punch, hmm, anyone like this? I found it to be underwelming... :(
I liked aspects of it. I still haven't decided if it was worth watching or not.

We just finished "Trollhunter". I'm still wondering what the point was.

Ides of March- Surprisingly good, despite not going where I thought it was going to go (GOP bashing). I'll take GOP bashing any day. ;)

Colombiana- This movie seemed to have great potential but despite all the action of a professional hit girl seeking revenge if felt a little flat.
