The ship creates an artificial black hole to transport instantly from one point in space to another. However the ship disappears, then reappears years and years later.

The movie is about finding the survivors and ultimately, where the ship went.

Its a great movie I'd love to see a remake.

A remake?!? Already?! I mean I know Hollywood has run out of ideas, but that movie isn't that old yet. Sure, 1997, but even so. :p

Just watched Dream House with Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, a thriller. It was watchable.

Thanks for the refresher! :)

The wonderful Metropolis anime from 2001.
Great visuals - Breughel meets R. Crump. An epic story which even holds up to its more than life predecessor and a perfect soundtrack with lots of ragtime and jazzy moments..classic!

As I read somewhere at Imdb: Rent it, buy it, steal it!

I had the movie version of "Speed Racer" on in the same room I was working in. It looked a lot like the cartoon, but didn't hold my attention at all.

I enjoyed re-watching "The Last Starfighter" last night. I'm sure my wife and kids did not enjoy my laughing at the special effects, or quoting some of the lines right before they were said. Sad reminder that it was one or two movies before Robert Preston passed. I also did not remember that Wil Wheaton was in it.

I liked that movie.

And Jennifer Anniston was so good in it. She could sexually harass me any day. :D

I did not find it funny, mostly stupid, tedious, and clumsily executed. However, I'm not saying that everyone should agree with me. J.A. was the high point of the movie. I wanted her to remove her dentist smock so badly. :D

Have you ever asked yourself, how much more offensive is it to see 3/4 of a breast vs whole breast and nipple? ;)

Just tried to watch Arthur.. turned it off after a few mins. Then tried Fright Night.. got through about 5mins, could be alright, just wasn't what I was expecting.

Ended up watching Made in Dagenham.. very charming, would recommend :)

I think that in order to like that movie you have to be a fan of, and be familiar with, those particular actors and their comedy styles.

I'm not saying it's up there with the best comedies ever, but I liked it quite a bit.

The Arthur remake? Never saw it but I imagined it would suck. :)

I think there is a fine line between slapstick comedy where it transgresses from funny to stupid. Where the line falls is personal opinion. I found the first Hangover to be watchable, but just so so. Maybe I'm pickier than the average. I caught a portion of the Hangover 2 on cable and plan on trying to see it in its entirety sometime. I think the best movie I've seen like this is Something About Mary which clicked for me, laughed my ass off. If it's more of a farse, in some ways it's easier to pull off imo. :)

You would imagine correctly.:p

I thought the first Hangover was good but not great. I thought it was very overrated, and I was expecting a lot more. The second one was a copy of the first one but worse. Don't even bother wasting your time. Bridesmaids was like that for me too- very overrated, not very good at all.

Something About Mary is a different style of comedy than Horrible Bosses. I don't think the two can really be compared, IMO.

One of my favorite recent comedies is Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I can watch that one over and over. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it.

Zoolander is my reference to that kind of borderline-cinema. I think it is brilliant and many friends agree, but can imagine somebody differs. completely.

Is Horrible Boss the one with the guy from Arrested Development? If yes, I switched channel very early. ;)

Usually I like Ben Stiller, but disliked Zoolander... :) Since we are speaking of comedies, I did like Wedding Crashers, although it was not slapstick.

I do not like Ben Stiller anymore. I like him in Something About Mary and Meet the Parents, and he was good in Flirting With Disaster and The Royal Tenenbaums, but he pretty much plays the same kind of character otherwise. He was also great in Arrested Development and in that one episode of Friends (he played a guy Rachel was dating). I heard he was good in Greenberg.

Wedding Crashers was a good comedy. Zoolander didn't do much for me.

Post what you think of Forgetting Sarah Marshall once you see it.

I'll report back. We watched American Graffiti this afternoon. That is one of those movies where you feel like your seeing reality. It's all most magical. I missed that time frame by about 10 years.

Saw The Campaign tonight. Lots of laughs but it's not a movie I could see more than once. I'd give it like a 7/10.

My wife reports we saw it and I liked it, lol. I guess I should still look for it. ;)

Finally got around to watching What's Up Tiger Lilly, Woody Allen's directorial debut, last night on Netflix. Not nearly as funny as when I was a teenager. :)

I watched some of Green Zone during the weekend. Chandrasekaran's book was a page turner for me, and I have subsequently listened to the audio version of it a couple of times. The movie I'm having trouble getting through, probably because the whole book did not become the backbone of the movie.

Things that loomed large to me in the book astonishingly became a series of background snapshots in the film, and sort of two-dimensional in their translation, so the plot lines and agendas of the movie seemed exaggerated to me. I missed the book's detailed focus on the political maneuvering and haymaking that shaped both policy and backlash during the early phase of reconstruction in Iraq.

It's possible I'd like this movie better if I watched it again, less my expectations that it would relate more strongly to the book.

But first I have to finish watching the film for the first time...

Quick question because I read it here the other day: I got the Cowboy Bepop movie today and would like to know if it's better to start with the series first, the movie or if it doesn't matter. Thank's!

Think I'm watching Jin-Roh / The Wolf Brigade this afternoon. It says from the creator of Akira and Ghost in the Shell, so it must be amazing! Hopefully

100% Watch the series first. The movie could be considered an OVA for the series.

What other anime do you watch ? Do you have Netflix streaming (they have a pretty good anime collection) ?
