I love Mulholland Dr.
❤️
I'll admit I could not watch Inland Empire. I tried, but it was just a little too surreal. Felt like I was watching footage of someone's ineffable dream.
Try to get the 4K restored release (which has MUCH better audio tracks), and watch it with subtitles. It took me 3 viewings before I appreciated it. Now it’s probably my favorite Lynch movie, it’s very, very deep and poignant. But yea, it requires some effort.

Surprisingly, my wife always watched the first 20 mins or so and then basically refused to keep watching but she - and our youngest son - came with me to watch the 4K version at the theater. After the movie, watched on a huge screen with great audio, she couldn’t stop talking about it. Literally for two hours she kept talking about it and how good it was and she was surprised how well Lynch understood a woman’s mind during a crisis. My kid also loved it.

Sheer, absolute horror, made for good reason in 84 we were toe to toe...

This is what the arrogance of mankind is capable of and has yet to understand. Maybe in the future if we can get past sheer greed our differences and the need to exert power over others, until then the axe ever looms...

In all honesty dont watch we should look to a brighter future. THREADS is a deep & dark dive into into a future that was all too close...

I’ve never heard of this. How good, or should I ask, how depressing is it? 🤔 It’s hard for me to say what a good post-armageddon story is, although these kind of stories, despite the worst happening, I’d say to qualify as good there is some grounds for hope. If I picked 4 it would be Mad Max Fury Road, of which a sequel (or is it a prequel?) is in the works, The Book of Eli, The Postman, and Station 11. Maybe this story lacks that element?

I just read Annie Jacobsen's "Nuclear War: A Scenario." Quick summary...a paranoid North Korean launches three nukes at the US (one hits Point Diablo nuclear power plant in CA, another hits Washington DC.) the third malfunctions. The US responds with 50 ICBMs and 8 SLBMs (submarine launched) towards North Korea. The Russians pick up these launches and due to their crappy satellite surveillance and even worse algorithms, they believe the ICBMs are in the hundreds and aimed at them, so they launch a full 1000 warhead counterstrike at the US. So the US has no choice but to fire 350 ICBMs and a bunch of SLBMs at Russia.

Pleasant dreams.

Is the reality of what would have happened... As someone of the era you should watch Threads least once. If you want to go deeper watch the The War Game (1966) was banned by UK.gov for decades as they didnt have the stones to tell the people the truth of the matter...

The List in no specific order off the media server:
  • Threads
  • By Dawns Early Light
  • Five - Arch Obler
  • The Day The Earth Caught Fire

Some are inspirational, most send the same message, not a list you want to watch end to end but one that should be watched as the idiots in charge need to be kept in check...

Buckle up - By Dawns Early Light (1990)

WAR; this is about people you can relate to as they gradually understand the futility of such actions...

TV programming used to have the stones to say it how it is, with no punches pulled. HBO was never stronger. Rest of the list the media server will deal randomly. To lead there has to be respect and respect is hard earned, or so it should be...

I just wrapped up watching Colossus: The Corbin Project. Quite an engaging and fascinating movie, you can see how the terminator, and even War Games with Matthew Broderick borrowed heavily from from it.

While it has a heavy 1970s vibe which is good in of itself, the story was captivating. Its hard to find on streaming but I found it on Vimeo

I am still recovering from this one, and I think I watched it in 1989 or so.

Actings alright, some CGI was pretty poor, some was pretty good. Nothing astounding though, story and plot is pretty unimaginative but it’s alright I guess. Probably a bit better then Rebel Moon 2 though.

Comprehensive list, some favorites on there, some I remember, and some I’ve forgotten or not head of.

Failsafe at age 11, made an impression on me. That in addition to Sit Under Your Desk And Kiss Your Ass Goodbye Drills in elementary school.

Torn Curtain- while excellent is an espionage film set during the Cold War.

On The Beach- saw this on TV probably when I was 12ish, intriguing but ultimately depressing.

Bedford Incident- chilling.

The Road- thoroughly depressing.

Dr Strangelove- Brilliant dark comedy.

War Games (1983)- Not on the list but excellent.

Planet of The Apes (1968)- Reveal at the end. 🤗

Spoiler for anyone who somehow has not seen this.
I keep asking myself, how could thay have survived? After the blood test, stay together was the only way. Although they had Blair the wild card and maybe whoever turned him running around subverting them. Because Blair was in close contact with alien cells, it can litgitimately be questioned that when Blair ripped up the radio and helo he had already turned and he did not want word getting out, but maybe not… 🤔

Indeed is very much their story, perfectly staged & shot. A Post-nuclear-war drama centering on a small group of survivors that kicked off an entire genre in science-fiction films. In some way or another, can all be traced back to this seminal film from 1951 in which five people deal with the possibility they are the only human beings left alive...

Special Bulletin (1983)

Domestic terrorism, right sentiment, wrong vein. Ostensibly a real-time event, no doubt similar to Orson Wells production of The War of the Worlds (1938) it caught a good few off balance in the day...

For those with interest The War of the worlds original broadcast resides here and has yet to age.

The Bedford Incident (1965)
1716809638601.png

If your going to watch anything on the list watch this. The Bedford Incident is powerful, poignant and on point. Richard Widmark & Sidney Poiter are at the top of their game and very much complement one another in this epic nuclear fuelled thriller. I make no bones about it, this is a five star film and one not to be missed...
