I mentioned this in another thread earlier, I was at a work meeting the other night for some training and I noticed the majority were using iPhones that were primarily 6/6s and even some iPhone 5s models. Some of the employees I was talking to hardly any knowledge about the iPhone X at all and had no desire to want to upgrade from their phones because it does exactly what they need it to. That's called real world experience versus somebody like us who are more prone to want to upgrade to the latest device because we are more tech oriented.

I see a LOT of 5S phones every day. 6 vs. 6S can be harder to spot quickly, but I see tons of those every day. It's true - people who post here are not typical of Apple's market at all.

Is it really shocking though? They are still very capable iPhones and a hell of a lot cheaper than an 8 or an X. They are bound to be attractive to a good proportion of the market that don’t desire the latest and greatest. The older model trend has been slowly growing since 2015.
This is the thing a large amount of people just want an iPhone that works well and does the job it's suppose to. A lot could care less about the latest and greatest.

my family have iPhones and they are all 6s and they love them and don't want to upgrade due to the price they are paying now is only like 30-40 a month where the x or 8 and 8 plus will be 60-70+

Their view is I'm not going to do anything different so why pay £30 more a month?

I agree that the mindset of the average consumer doesn't really care about having the latest iPhone, especially if they are perfectly fine using their iPhone for its capabilities now. That's why Apples marketing needs to be so aggressive, is to persuade those why they would want to upgrade with more trendy features like an improved camera, Face ID, and Animoji's.

That pretty much echoes the mindset of my friends and family. The desire to buy an iPhone that does pretty much the same thing they need it for but costs £400 more is lost on them.

Are you sure those are 5S and not SE?!

I'm switching from the X to the 8 Plus after using it for two months. I really miss the size of the 8 Plus, plus the battery life. My wife has an 8 Plus and mind you we use our phones about the same amount, when I'm at 20% she's still around 50%. I couldn't believe it.

Best advantage of the 8 Plus for sure! My phone has never dropped below 30 percent yet!

In the current market, there are still quite a few 5S's being used, which still receive iOS support. But they can also be easily misconstrued with the SE, as they both physically resemble each other almost identically.

Battery life is subjective. Phones are designed to always look for the strongest signal. If you live in an area where you get 2 bars of service, the battery won't last as long as someone who lives in an area with 4 bars. I get great battery life in my iPhone X. I've been unplugged for almost 16 hours and I'm at 52% currently

For me it's all down to screen real estate, commonly known as screen width (aspect ratio). Iphone X is a great phone and i love face ID and new gestures that have been implemented... The only downside that i have experienced owning both phones is when viewing youtube videos the original format is the same size as a standard iphone 8 and when you zoom to use the full screen you lose so much content it's not really an option.... that for me was disappointing for a flagship phone in 2017.

I believe both phones are fairly equal in performance.
For me the 8 plus it's what fits me at this time, when the X plus comes out it may be a game changer me.

This is what I’m hoping for. An X Plus in the near future.

This is so true, especially the last sentence. Here in Holland I only see SE, 5S, 6, 7 and 8 (Plus). I never seen an X in my group of family, friends and colleagues. Even at the supermarket standing in line I only see many SE, 6 and Plus models but never the almighty iPhone X.

I spoke to a fair amount of people about the X, but everyone either thinks it's too expensive and/or hates the notch or doesn't want to lose Touch ID. In the last couple of weeks of browsing this forum I realize more and more that it seems like 80% of the 30 million X owners have an account on MacRumors Forum, and 10% of the 300 million people who use the 8 (Plus) and earlier models are active on this forum.

Of course these are fake percentages and numbers but it's to express how I think about the 'popularity' of the X.

In a few cases I do know they're 5S (what's the plural of 5S? 5Ses?), but mostly you're right, visually it's nearly impossible to tell.

I see very few Xes, and unlike the SE/5S case, I think I can say I can visually ID an X (having used one for five weeks).

In the past six weeks, both of my adult sons (29 and 27) upgraded (finally) from a 5S. One bought an X, the other an 8. It more or less reflects their views on tech hardware but also the fact that both of the 5Ses had basically become unusable.

I would say Apple reduced the size of the battery in iPhone 8Plus vs Iphone 7Plus not due to wireless charging but more like it was beating iphone X by far too much if they kept the previous years battery

I completely doubt that idea. It's far more likely that the 8 and 8 Plus batteries had to shrink to accommodate the coils for the wireless charging, since there was no way Apple was going to make the phones any larger to incorporate the additional components.

I'm noticing that after a few days of having the X vs my iPhone 8 plus. The battery life is drastically worse on the X. Oh well. :(

But is it still enough to get you through the day? I have yet to see my iPhone X drop below 20% after starting the day with a full charge. I suppose if I watched more video or played more games on it the battery might be more of an issue. The only thing I do that might drain the battery a bit more than normal is stream music and/or new+podcasts for an hour or two a day.

It is. I was doing around 70% by the end of the day on the 8 plus, the X is around 45% with the same usage.

I think the biggest issue I had with the X was the notch and face id. I originally didn't even think I'd have a problem with the notch but then when I actually got it, similar to what others have mentioned, any videos watched in landscape end up being the same size as an iPhone 6/7/8 screen. That is kind of a hard adjustment coming from any of the plus models. And if you zoom in, it's hard to ignore the notch when watching things, at least it was for me. Plus face id was slow imo. It worked consistently, once I turned off attention awareness or whatever tracks your eyes BUT it still took waaayyyy longer than just holding my finger on the touchid of my previous phone. For those reasons I returned my X. I'm sure the X plus will alleviate a lot of those issues, with a hopefully quicker face id and bigger screen. I can only imagine what the price ends up being though. Unfortunately at its current price, a plus model will likely end up costing more than a base MacBook which is just too much imo for a phone... we'll see though!

If watching video uncompromised is your thing, its the 8 Plus.

I own both X and 8+ and switched back and forth every other week or so. Can not do it any longer as the two phones operate so differently with different interfaces. Decided to get rid of one.

The 8+ is the winner and the X will go on Craig's list this weekend. It is a great phone but the keyboard is most important to me and the 8+ wins hands down!

I think that might be the third time that image has been posted in this thread ;)

To sum up my earlier responses:

Video does not look like that on the iPhone X by default. It only looks that way if you decide to zoom in so it expands to take up the entire X display. If you watch a 16:9 video the way it is intended to be watched, you don't see the notch because the display on the X has a wider aspect ratio than 16:9. Yes, the physical size of the displayed video will be smaller than it appears to be on the iPhone 8+. This is because the iPhone 8+ is a physically larger device. If you watch a lot of movies or play a lot of games on your iPhone, and having as large of a display as you can get matters to you, then get the 8+. If you are one of the millions of people who rarely watch video or play games on our iPhones, the smaller size is not a problem. For many of us the smaller size is a virtue.

The more time I spent using my mother's 8+, the more I liked it. She was visiting over the holidays and I kept comparing it to my iPhone X. Really tough call, but in the end I decided I made the right decision for myself with the iPhone X. They have so much in common, but each one has a few things going for it over the other. I never would have known my preference for certain without trying them both out side by side. Fortunately I was able to do that without buying two phones, but I'm sure you will easily sell the X.
