For me it’s all about the battery life. Coming from a 6 where I had to charge the phone twice a day, my 8 Plus can get me through a whole day with my needs and then some! Makes me very happy!

The X isn't that bad, but it is not as good as the plus. I can definitely tell in my day to day now after a week. I used it hard yesterday, and it still got me through the day with 20% left.

I had the same problem with my 6, but of course battery life on the 6 was fine when the battery was new. I’ve had my iPhone X for about a month and I have yet to see the battery dip below 20%. I charge overnight and it’s usually still 30-40% by end of the day. It comes down to usage though. I’m not draining the battery as quickly as someone who plays a lot of games and video on their phone. While battery life is better on the larger iPhone, it’s hardly an issue on the X. Personally I’d rather have the physically smaller iPhone. The better battery life of the 8 Plus would be completely wasted on me, and I think that is true for most people. Especially true when you consider the convenience of wireless charging. I have a $20 Anker wireless charging stand at home, and could get one for the office as the battery ages in a couple of years. Currently I keep my iPhone perched on a $6 stand at the Office.

Very true, but it makes sense to say that since the 8 Plus battery lasts longer now when it’s new, it won’t degrade as fast as the X overtime correct?

Yes, I believe that is a reasonable assumption, but it probably comes down to usage. My wife still has an iPhone 6 with original battery and it hasn’t degraded nearly as much as the battery on my 6 had. I use my iPhone a lot more than she does though. By the time my 6 got really bad, and the performance suffered from throttlegate, I was ready for an upgrade anyway. Her battery still lasts all day because she often keep it docked to a speaker where it would play music and charge. She just doesn’t use it much, so it is still a great phone for her needs.

Lithium ion batteries last longer if you don’t run them down to fumes frequently, so if I get another $20 wireless charger for the office so it charges slowly when when I’m at my desk, I might keep the battery in a healthier state for much longer. That wouldn’t require me to change my habits at all since I currently keep my iPhone on a $6 stand at work.

I prefer it due to non obscured display. It’s that simple, plus I seem to end the day with more battery life than I did with my X. But that’s not a hugely important feature for me now as all I need a phone to do is last me until the end of the day and not beyond! And that’s all there is to it. They’re both so similar. Though I guess I do like the fact that the LED display will last longer than the OLED one. I’m always overly cautious of oled screens because of their shorter lifespan. It’s just one less stress I don’t want to have.

Plus with full screen video on the 8 plus the resulting image is bigger than the X unless you want it in notch obscuring mode. So I quite like that. Bear in mind this is my first Plus phone too. I think I’m converted to that larger display size lol.

Oh forgot but yes I much much MUCH prefer Touch ID. A million times more.

Went from an iPhone 5 to 6 to the 8 Plus! Kicking myself as to why I didn’t get the 6+ to begin with when that generation was released! Love this big screen...can never go back! Will be excited to see how the second generation X Plus looks like in 2019!

The notch doesn't bother me one bit; it's amazing how quickly you get used to it.

What else is amazing, is how many continue to complain about the Notch On a tech forum and nobody I know around me mentions the notch in the real world.

My thoughts exactly. I look forward to where the X design goes. I have a feeling this will be like the original iPhone and the 4, basically whenever the a new model arrives they spend one or two gens fixing it up until it’s something truly special. The x is going age horribly compared to its successors if history is anything to go by.

Exactly! Which is why I plan on getting the second generation of the X Plus or whatever Apple offers in 2019. That will be 2 years of further tweaks and better developments. Until then, I’ll enjoy my first Plus sized iPhone!

Here are my reasons why I prefer iPhone 8 Plus.

1. Bigger 16x9 aspect ratio. It so much better for videos, mail, keyboard size. Just about everything.

2. No red eyes or white eyes form the hardware defect from the quad led flash. I’ve testing multiple iPhone X and they all exhibit the same problem when taking pictures or video in low light with the the flash turned on. Test it out guys if you don’t believe me. I believe the flash is just to close to the camera lens and it’s causing some weird algorithm when using it. I don’t have this problem at all on iPhone 8 Plus.

3. Longer battery life. I can get up to 2 days on 8 plus.

4. Dust in the camera lens on iPhone X.

5. Touch ID works better for me. iPhone X will not recognize me in the morning. If you lay on your pillow forget it. It will not work. It feels like you have to bow down to this phone to get through. You have to lift you head up, open your eyes wide open and then it will unlock. Apple please get rid of the stupid side up to unlock. They could at least make it an option to turn it off at least.

6. Display zoom is gone on iPhone X. That was a very useful feature. iPhone 8 and a 8 plus have it. But for some reason apple took it off the X.

7. Landscape mode. I just missed the iPad mini like experience on iPhone X.

8. Eye Strain. iPhone X uses PWM to dim the display. If you have sensitive eyes you will get headaches and eye strain. I hope the rumors are true on the late 2018 iPhones. Mich Ching kho Said apple is going to release a 6.1” iPhone with an LCD screen.

9. Accidental screenshots. It seems like I’m always taking screenshots while taking my phone out of my pocket.

10. $200 cheaper, and its a tried and true design.

Don’t get me wrong. iPhone X is a very nice phone. I thought I was going to love it much more but it feels like a first generation product. I can’t wait for the new models this fall. The second generations always fixed all the bugs based on the history of iPhone. But for now my SIM card is staying in my iPhone 8 Plus.

The 2 reasons why I personally believe the phone has an advantage as well! I’d much prefer longer battery life where I know I will never have to charge during the day over an edge to edge screen display (that may cause burn in, has the notch, causes headaches).

Keep an eye on the heat from your wireless charger. You’re right that letting the battery drop too low is bad for capacity over time, but so is heat. Wireless chargers can get pretty hot, at least in my android experience.

So far I haven't noticed things getting warm on the wireless charger, but I'm using a slower 5W charger since it's on my nightstand. I would probably stick with 5W for my office as well since it doesn't need to charge that quickly when I'm just trying to keep it within a 50-75% range. It seems like the heat issues I've read about happen more with the 7.5 W chargers.

I use the Samsung stand up wireless charger on my nightstand and supposedly it can charge up to 9 W. When I take my phone off in the morning, my phone is never hot or even warm for that matter. The few times I wake up in the middle of the night and grab my phone to check the time, it never feels hot either. Granted, 9W really isn’t considered fast charging right? Over heating should not be a problem.

I have the same one from the Note 8 promotion. Works fine on both my iPhone 8 plus and X.

Apple only supports upto 7.5 watt of wireless charging. So even if your charger is capable of higher wattage, the phone will never draw that much power anyway.

Point 8. Wow I didn't know that. I barely used my X for a week.... even though I obviously need a phone like anyone else in 2017 (when I owned it) I didn't really use it that much. Maybe for half an hour a day? Maybe less? I get eye strain quite easily, though I didn't get it when I used to play a Playstation Vita.... another OLED device.
No Landscape mode or display zoom? Booo! I never knew about Landscape mode when I bought my 8+ my first + device and it was such a nice bonus feature.

Landscape mode is just when you turn the phone sideways to use right? Don’t all iPhones do that?

The plus models do some things in landscape that you can't do on the x. The homescreen won't go to landscape, the email and messages apps have a different layout and functionality in landscape - list of messages on the left with previews / open message on the right based on what you select. similar to ipad. Things like that.

Yes. I had a 6S, which I got thinking partly that it could replace my iPad Mini. It did some things similarly, but others not. It was interesting and in some ways better than the standard iPhone, but didn't give me as much of the iPad functionality as I expected.

For me, only the battery. Everything else is worse. I’ve had the 8 Plus for 2 months.
Performance wise, the 8 Plus is just as good and fast as the X. They both have Apple’s A11 chip. The 2 biggest things the X has over the 8 Plus is a better quality screen (but that’s debatable due to the notch, less screen width) and a slightly better camera. Honestly I prefer the 8 Plus screen because it’s wider and there is more useable space overall. Also, most reports say the 8 Plus has better battery life and I want that better battery life!
